Missing

"Kaiiii! I'm hungry!" A three year old Nya whined, tugging on his shirt and bouncing up and down, begging for food, with a rumble of her stomach moments after, confirming her whining.

Kai sighed, frustration and defeat running through his heart:. He pushes Nya off him playfully, making her tumble back onto the sharp and newly cut grass. He then stood up and played with his hair hair and then looked back down at her. She had a pout, something he hates three year olds doing. And his sister just so happens to be a three year old.

"Okay, okay, c'mon, let's ask mom and dad for some." He gave in, rolling his eyes and waiting for Nya to get up, tapping his foot impatiently as his felt hunger grow in hid own stomach.

Nya stood up on her own, and crossed her arms. "But is like..before lunch? They won' let us have food." She whined again, desperately wanting food, and hating the rules in their house.

The brunette shrugged and dusted his clothes off, clearly not bothered by the rules that were set in place. "And? I know where they hide my candy.." He bit his lip, debating whether or not to tell Nya, scared she wouldn't keep this 'ecret'.

Nya looked up at him and held her pinkie out. "I won' tell, pwomise." She said seriously. Kai glanced at her for a few moments before holding his out an sealing the promise.

Nya doesn't break promises. She hates it when people say they'll do something for her but never do it. But in her book, what's worse is when they promise something, and they break that promise by not doing what they said they'd do.

It shatters her to pieces, and sometimes, depending on how secretive the secret was, and how important it was to her, she'd cry over it, because she just wants someone to trust and care for. Although she wasn't necessarily the most social kid in her class.

"Okay, so I always steal some before lunch." Kai admitted, snickering and smirking in a five-year-old devilish tone, thinking he was the baddest, most pretty, and most liked kid ever.

Nya rolled her eyes and crossed her tiny arms. "Naughty, cause mommy and daddy gon' catch you and get angwy at you." She taunted back. Kai laughed again and shook his head, feeling power run through his veins since he was the older out of the two.

"Well they must be blind.." He mourned.

"Kai! That mean!" Nya retaliated, sticking her tongue out and starting to take her parents side more than her brother's side.

Kai sighed, and gave in to his little sister. "Fiiine," He mumbled, crossing his arms too to shut Nya up. "..Grass!"

"Por..por..cu..cu..porcu..porcupine!" Nya stammered out, the three year old not knowing words like that and struggling to make a good clapback to her more literal brother.

"Took you long enough." Kai snorted, flicking her ear. Nya winced and lightly slapped him back.

Nya groaned and held up two fingers, her English dictionary not being any good at all. "I only three!" She then held up seven fingers. "And you only five!" Again, wrong.

Kai rolled his eyes and headed into the shop, calling out for his parents. Nya followed suit.

But the thing is, it was quiet. And I mean quiet.

Their parents had been through a lot in their lives, the young kids knew that, and it was really hard to them to talk about their problems to them; mainly because they're only toddlers and the pain they've been through is nothing less than R rated.

But there wasn't a day where it was silent, especially when their kids are both awake, stood side my side to each other in the actual shop itself.

Their father would immediately, and easily, pick the two up and sit them both down on the couch, leaving his children to look very clueless and concerned until he came over moments after and told them not to go in there, with a stern voice.

And then their mother would come in, most likely hold the two siblings, as they were both extremely clingy, one leaning on her father to cry into and the other was more likely to cry and sit on his moms lap.

So with it being 11am in the morning, broad and shining daylight outside, indicating that everyone should most likely be awake by now, it was silent.

"Mom?" Kai yelled out, slightly shaking. He didn't like silence, it always scared him. Something from the unknown can pop out at you at any minute and hurt you or the people you love. And Kai promised that his loved ones were never gonna get hurt without himself doing something to stop this entity.

Kai swallowed the lump in his throat, and called for both his mom and his dad. Nya gripped onto his arm tighter, whimpering.

"S-Shh Sis." Kai reassured her softly, letting her grip tighten to how much she wanted, as he felt the need to have someone close to him as well, as the silence was really starting to freak him out

Nya felt tears build up in her little brown eyes, the worry of the situation making her upset and cold, and she didn't like neither of those things at all. "Mommy?" She called out first, and when neither of them got a response from their mother Nya called out again, her voice shaky. "Daddy?"

Tears filled Kai's eyes too, and he stood, shaking. "D-Dad? Where..where's m-mom?" Again, there was no answer. The whole place was loud with silence, and it was starting to make the two cold.

Nya started to cry, lifting her arms up in the lonely air and trying to get a hug back from warm arms. "Daddy!" She yelled. Kai hushes Nya softly, feeling his own body starting to shiver in an attempt to hold and hide away his tears from spilling out.

"Nya, shh." He whimpered. Nya looked away from Kai with a hurt and upset expression, not responding verbally or physically to his order for the time being.

The brunette felt a few tears roll down his face. "They..they are gone." He sunk to the floor.

His eyes looked up as he saw his little sister trying to process the words that he just blabbered out of his mouth. Her own eyes shone with liquid, and her voice box didn't seem to work at all, only until she sniffled and started crying harsher. She put her hands over her eyes and sank to the ground too, shaking.

Kai shuffled closer to her, wrapping his arms around Nya and gently hugging her, resting his head on her shaking shoulder. Tears pooled onto her dress and he rubbed shaky circles on her back.

That Night

Kai tucked in Nya for the 3rd time today, after two failed attempts to get the three year old to have a nap. She'd just sit there, crying and begging for her parents. Kai did everything he could, but to no avail. He gave her his own teddy bear, and her blankets. Nothing. He tried to give her her favourite candy, but that didn't work either. In fact she vomited it back up moments later.

It was now 12am, way past their bedtimes, and Kai finally got her to stay in bed. He was exhausted, and so was she.

"N-Night sis." He murmured, kissing her forehead gently and gently rubbing her arm. Nya whimpered and mumbled a very quiet 'goodnight' back.

Kai turned around and began to walk out of her room, before a yell and cry of his name haulted him from going to sleep himself. He turned around once again and saw Nya sitting up, shivering and holding her arms out to him.

"D-Don't..don't w-weave me..p-p-ple-pleas-e.." She stuttered out, the shaky tone in her voice alerting him that Nya wanted- no. needed him to stay next to her. And he couldn't lie, staying in a cold house in the pitch black night at 12am with no protection fromthe outside world also terrified him, and he's pretty sure that was the main reason he cried to his parents.

But he couldn't do that anymore.

He teared up and nodded rapidly, getting into bed beside her and pulling the covers over her. Nya snuggled into his side and gripped him tightly, signalling she wanted to be sung to. Kai obliged.

Five Years Later

Kai waited outside the gates of the school for his little sister, whilst chatting to one of his friends who also hat to wait for family of his. They were joking about, talking about the stupid history lesson they were given today by some very comfused and oblivous subsistute just trying to do their job.

Once his friends' last sibling came out from school, he said his goodbye's to Kai and walked to his parent's car, and drove off.

Kai waited another few minutes, it was now 5:05pm and the gates were about to close, but Nya wasn't even coming out the doors. Not yet anyway. He muttered a few confused sentences and questions before looking around beside the building and seeing a small girl who looked, and was, Nya running out. He smiled and sighed in relief and walked up to her.

His face fell when he saw hers. It was obvious that she has been crying, as her pestering sniffling and red eyes gave that away, as well as small, but also constant shivering. But she also looked..hurt, and betrayed. As if she'd just seen something horrific.

As soon as they were a good distance away from the school, Kai stopped Nya and looked into her eyes, extremely worried for her. "Sis?" He got her attention. Nya looked up at him and shivered. "What happened?" He asked, placing a gentle hand onto her shoulder and patiently (something that he wasn't) waited for her response.

The eight year old exhaled shakily and played with her fingers, before giving in and explaing.

"W-Well you know my only friend, r-right?"

'Only friend' Made Kai's heart break. However, he simply nodded and let her carry on.

"S-She..u-um..I-I.."

The taller rubbed her back gently, attempting to soothe her. "Deep breaths Nya, remember." He explained. "Take your time."

She nodded shakily and felt her body tense up again. "W-Well I was talking to her a-about our parents..a-and.." Her eyes filled up with tears again.

"T-They're dead, Kai. They're not coming back."

Kai straightened up immediatley, the shock of the sentence peircing through him like a knife. And before he knew it, he was crying.

And they he understood what her friend did.

He jumped into her arms and held her close, trying his best to stay strong in front of her, but he failed, like he always does.

Nya rubbed his shoulders and back, also trying her best to stay strong in from of him, even though the same pain laid heavily on her shoulders. Staying silent and never bothering anyone but herself.

Seven years later

"'Cause there is no garuntee, that this life is easy.." He hummed, gently stroking her hair and watching her eyes becom heavier before drifting off under the covers. Kai smiled and exited her room, to be greeted by his parents.

"Oh, hey mom and dad." He waved at them lightly. Maya poked her head through the door into her daughters room and then looked back at Kai. The brunette raised an eyebrow.

"H-How did you get her to calm down and go back to sleep so easily? It'd take your father and I ages before she stopped crying, let alone go to sleep." She asked. Ray nodded in agreement.

Kai looked back into her room at shut the door, trying his best not her to wake her in the late night again. "I guess I've been singing to her for about 11 years now..it calms her quickly, so.." He smiled gently and stayed quiet.

"W-Wow.." Maya breathed out. She then hugged Kai. "Thanks for taking care of her." She muttered.

Kai scoffed. "Me? If anything she helped me more."

The two adults looked at eavh other worriedly. Ray then ran off, saying he was gonna schedule a therapy appointment for them.
