Somewhere
I feel lost here. I've lived here my whole life, yet I still don't know this place. It's a boring place full of boring people and their boring lives. I live in a mansion, a Victorian era mansion. A Victorian era mansion, full of Victorian era people. This is the 2016, yet were stuck in the 1800's.
"We must respect our ancestors and their traditions!" My mother will tell me for the 100th time in her stern voice. I will be forced to wear some awful frilly dress that wont allow me to breath, and I will be forced to smile and look like I'm enjoying myself and the people around me.
I'll sit down lazily after being forced to greet everyone and my mother will scold me for having no manners. "You will sit like a lady, and act like a proper lady to! I didn't raise you to be like other children in this awful era." I roll my eyes and sit more comfortably when she turns around and walks off to talk to some old friend.
"Amalia, come meed this handsome young man!" My mother or father will call out for me. I'm only 17 and my parents are trying to marry me off to some rich boy who I don't even know and who doesn't know me. Why would he know me though, I don't even know me.
Of course I still had to meet and talk to the boy and act like I was interested in his latest hobby that he had picked up. I would excuse myself, tell him it was lady troubles. That usually scared them off, but my mom would become angry if I did. Telling me about how rich he was, and all the connections their family had.
Naturally, I wouldn't care. I don't care about boys who've I just met, especially ones my parents introduce me to because I know they want me to get married, have 5 kids, and be a typical house wife with no life or thoughts of my own. Just listen to what some man tells me to do and what to think.
I didn't want that life. I want to be independent, to fall in love at my own speed with someone I've chosen to fall in love with. I want to choose my own career, I want to choose my own clothes, my own friends, my own words, I want my own life.
I wanted to be free. I didn't want to be here, I wanted to be anywhere. Anywhere but here.
I sighed and sat down under a big shady tree. I close my eyes, ignoring the party the parents threw in hopes of finding my future fiance going on not to far away from me. I just wanted some time to myself. Some time to think, time to get away from all those toxic people who were attending the in hopes to marry their sons off to me.
I start to fall asleep when something falls on my head. I look up to find myself staring face to face with a pink and purple fluffy cat tail. A few pink flower petals fell off the tree an onto my eyes. I brush the petals off my face and look back at the tail, but the cat was gone. I yawn and stretch. I turn to look back the house, but when I turn my head there's a pair of yellow cat eyes looking at me.
"Ah!" I jump back a bit, with no where to go my back hits the tree. "Ouch!" I hiss. I open my eyes again, instead of a cat it was a human girl who had purple and pink cat eats on top of her head and a pink and purple cat tail protruding from her lower back.
She had a cotton candy colored hair that was cut into a short bob with straight across bangs, her ears we're purple, she was wearing a pink and purple pastel dress with white tights and purple flats. She was tall and slender. Her eyes were still piercing yellow.
"Hello, Alamia." She had a soft, sweet calming voice. She looked to be around my age. Two sharp fangs stuck out from her teeth, exactly like a cat. "Hello, Cael." I replied. How did I know her name?
She smiled. "Come back to us."
"Where?" I ask.
"Why Wonderland my dear." She walked behind the tree, her tail wrapped around the side of the tree.
"You mean like "Alice in Wonderland"."? I asked.
"Exactly dear. Exactly like our dear Alice." This time a male voice spoke. A boy comes out from behind the tree. He's wearing the same dress, tights, and shoes as the girl. "You're the long lost descendant of Wonderlands dearest Alice, Alamia."
"You mean the story of Alice is real? It isn't fiction?" I ask.
"Every. Single. Word. There isn't a drop of fiction in that book." He smiles with a big grin, his two cat fangs overlapping his other teeth. This almost feels like a dream.
"That's because this is a dream my dearest, it was the only way I could communicate with you in my human forms." The only thing left of him are his yellow cat eyes. Two pink flower petals fall directly over my eyes again.
I wake up to find that I'm brushing nothing off of my eyes. I stand up and brush off the back of my blue dress. "Was that really a dream?" I ask nothing. I hear a faint meow. I turn around and look behind me but I find nothing. "Odd..." I speak to myself again. I shrug and start to walk back to the party when a white rabbit runs up to me.
"Now this is to good to be true." The bunny begins to hope right back to the tree I was just sitting under. I run after him, or her. The rabbit hops behind the tree and disappears. When I look behind the tree I notice a hole that I've never noticed before. Human sized too. I crawl into the hole when everything goes black and I start falling.
I quickly close my eyes, giggling. I probably shouldn't be giggling while falling after I climb into a strange hole in a tree in our backyard. When everything seems to stop, I extend a leg. The tip of my foot touches ground. After feeling secure on the ground I open my eyes and gasp.
"It's beautiful."
