"The Festival: Part 1"

Levi

July 4th

"You've been quiet back there Eren.." I said as I looked behind me and made sure he was still awake.

Sure, I don't expect him to be talkative, especially after everything we've gone through together, but at least answer back. I looked in the mirror this time to get a glimpse of him, he was awake, but he wasn't going to answer.

"Aren't you excited for the festival? We're going to have a fun night before we leave this town and maybe even this country. We can finally have our own place together and no one will ever come between us" I said and gripped my hands on the firm steering wheel.

We changed cars a few times before, so it's safe to assume the police don't know which car we're in.

"Yeah. I'm so excited! I want to be able to eat sweets and play games and watch the fireworks with you! It's going to be so fun!" he said with a smile.

I smiled to myself as I watched the road, "I'm so happy to hear you say that" I said. It's going to be a little hard for that though since we're on the run, but I'll do anything to make my Eren happy.

•You're slipping..•

"No I'm not" I said aloud and Eren looked at me in confusion.

"What?" He said and I shook my head. "Nothing, just....keep being excited for today" I gave him a look and then turned back to the road. My hands gripped the steering wheel. The voice inside my head never seemed to leave me alone.

It was there. Tempting. Mocking. Playing inside my head.

•You're a mess. Sooner or later, you're going to have to let me take control...•

Stop.

•And when you do..•

I won't.

•It'll be over in a flash, but don't worry! I'll be sure to give the search a ..permanent end•

"I said I won't!" I exclaimed and slammed my fist onto the steering wheel. I didn't look back at Eren since I knew he would question me.

Never again. I can't let it take control of me ever again. The past is the past. Learn from your mistakes and move forwards.

Tonight will be a special night. After the festival, we're leaving this town and we'll live elsewhere forever.

I knew it since I laid eyes on him that he was the one. Surely he thought the same way, right?

Yes of course. Eren's been through so much with me, there's no way he could even think otherwise

We'll always be together.

Eren

He's losing it and I can tell. He keeps talking to himself and arguing with no one around him. These past 3 months have been a living hell.

All of the horrors I have seen are a tragedy. These memories come back to haunt me in my sleep, and I almost never get to have a normal slumber.

I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, traumatized by the screams and desperate wails of Levi's victims.

I've seen so much that...if I actually escape...I can tell of all the horrible things he's done.

I can get him put in prison and away from me forever! But...for some reason, whenever I think of this, my chest tightens and feels just a little heavier.

What's this feeling that keeps holding me back? He's dangerous. A walking psychopath. Yet, I still don't understand my own hesitation to do what needs to be done. He can't be allowed to roam free. What if he finds another victim? Someone other than me? They would suffer just like I did.

I can't just attack him. I need to catch him off guard. Then I can get away. "I hope there are festival games" I said.

I pretend to be excited. I pretend to have fun. I pretend for him. I need to pretend for as long as I can so I can get away. I keep falling into his trap over and over. It's time for me to be one step ahead of him.

"By the way, Eren.." Levi said and I looked over. "I got our festival masks so no one would see our faces. Your mask has something attached so you can't take it off. Understand?"

"Of course" I said back and gave a little smile.

After 15 minutes of more driving, we drove up into the woods, at least a 10 minute walk away from the festival. When he parked the car and unlocked the door, I got out and looked over the festival.

There were workers who were still putting up decorations, but kids and parents were already arriving. I felt at peace for once, until he grabbed my arm and pulled me back. I almost flinch, but I try not to look afraid anymore.

"Here" he told me and then gave me the mask. "What does this collar do?" I asked and he said nothing in return. I was hesitant, but I put the festive mask on and then collar instantly snapped shut when It went around my neck.

"It's a tracker" Levi stated and he held up a remote. "It will keep track of where you are, and if you get too far away from me, I can do this" he explained and pressed a button, giving me a violent shock. "Ow!" I winced and held my neck.

"It hurts doesn't it? I don't think I will have to use it. You'll be in my sight all night, and you can't take it off."

Heput a hand on my shoulder. "Ready to have some fun?" he asked.

Hanji

"This game is rigged" she said and takes off her glasses, squinting at the fair game. "Are those bottles glued together?? I should have suspected a ploy" she hummed.

"Hanji. Are we not supposed to be paying attention to bigger matters?" Erwin said.

"Like winning goldfish?"

"Like..."

"Oh! You mean with trying to get Er-"

"Yes. That."

"No, no. This is all apart of my exceptional plan. We're going to blend in with the crowd and look around for them. We can't go out looking like we're going for a fight. No of course not~" I said.

"Levi is smart enough not to leave any tracks. We need to keep our eyes open" he said.

"I like to watch from behind the scenes of course, until we can strike and make our move...Like a cobra!" I said and held my hand up as if it was a snake towards Erwin.

He sighed, grabbing my hand and pushing it down. "This is serious. We could be in danger if we don't play our cards right." He said.

Mikasa

Along the way, a group of 3
walked through the crowds. They looked festive on top, but underneathe their smiles was a fury of anger on getting their friend back.

"Armin. When do the fireworks light?" Mikasa asked and Armin quickly flipped the scheduled pamphlet. "Around..10:30!" He said.

"Good. Let's get up to the forest before then, they will most likely be somewhere far away from people." She said.

"Maybe we can finally get Eren back" Armin said, clutching the pamphlet in his hands.

"Maybe we can stop Levi once and for all.." she hissed.

Levi

As the day went on, laughter filled the air and the sounds of little sparklers were audible around the playing booths. The wind softly blew, causing posters to waver and dance along with it.

Lanterns were being lit one by one as the sun slowly ran it's course. It was dark. The life of people and celebration bringing the festival alive.

Though, something was lurking around in this happiness. A sick and twisted murderer who was convinced that true love came in all forms. Including obsession.

"Alright everyone! We're gonna start the fireworks really soon! Please make sure you don't bring much food..." the announcer yelled over a microphone, but I was not so concerned with it.

"Eren. Let's go up to the hill" he said and then looked around.

"Eren?" I asked as my eyes darted around the crowd. "No. No way he would try to defy me." I hissed and looked around. Where? Where?!

I pulled out the tazing device and glared down at it. He pressed down on it, not letting go until he heard the yells from someone far away.

"Oh my God. Someone help this boy! Is he okay?" A woman said as she looked at Eren, desperately trying to take the collar off that was causing him great pain.

"Ah. There you are. My apologies. He must be having an allergic reaction to his mask. We must leave now" I said as I ran over to Eren, gripping his shoulder tightly. I hurriedly grabbed his arm to tug him away.

"No- Hel..help m-" Eren tried to say and I dug my nails in his arm.

"If you try to ruin our future together Eren...I will kill everyone you love" I glared at him through the holes in the mask and It must have worked, because he shut up and run up the hill with me.

I looked at the far end of the festival. They were setting up the fireworks. "Aren't you excited? This day will always be remembered as the start of our future." I said as I took off my mask, the further we walked into the forest. There was a clear open view above the trees where the fireworks would be.

In the distance, I failed to notice that a few important people saw us run up the hill. This was my mistake of what had ruined this night.

"3...2.....1!!" The announcer yelled and as they were about to light the fireworks, a pair of hands grabbed onto me from behind and threw me to a tree. I glared at the unlucky bastard that did that.

It was Reiner. "You son of a-" I was cut off when Eren quickly went to run to Armin and Mikasa's side.

"Oh no you don't" I said as I pressed the button again and he fell to the ground, yelling in pain. "Eren...don't do this to us. I know you love me. I love you too" I said as I glared down at him and pressed the button harder.

"Stop it!" Armin yelled and ran over me. I glared at him and then grabbed his arm to stop him from taking the device.

Mikasa came from behind me and grabbed my neck and ripping me from Armin, throwing me to the ground. "I've been waiting for this" she hissed.

I took out the gun I had under my shirt and in my pocket, pulling it out as I jumped up and whipped it across Mikasa's face.

The tazer fell to the ground and she reached for it. I dug my heel into her hand and gave her a kick in her side.

"Mikasa!" Armin yelled and I quickly turned to him, firing a shot at the tree behind him.

"Don't you come any closer or I'll really make you look like a coconut. With 3 holes in your head" I hissed.

"Now you die." I pointed at Mikasa while glaring at Reiner.

"Ah ah ah! I don't think so~" Hanji giggled as she suddenly popped up from behind a tree and ran over, grabbing the tazer from the ground.

I angrily glared at her, "You too?! I should've killed you when I had the chance" I hissed.

"Erwin!" Hanji called and threw it to the taller male. He caught it with one hand and threw it to the ground, smashing it in the grass.

I backed off of Mikasa and looked at Eren who was now free from the tazering collar. I looked towards the car I drove me and Eren in.

As I was backing up to get the vehicle to drive over these insolent fools, another car drove right into the side of it.

Jean and Marco hurried out, but before Eren's mother could get out to hug her son for the first time in a long time, Marco locked the car.

"H-hey. Hey! Let me out! Please! Let me out!" She screamed as she tried to push the door open. "I'm sorry. You could die. If anything happens, theres an emergency gun in the glove compartment" he said and then left with Jean to confront me.

I stood there, pointing my gun at everyone who dared to get in the way. "You bastards really think you can beat me?! I'll kill all of you and take Eren away! He's mine!" I yelled.

"Give it up Levi. There are 8 of us against you. You're out numbered" Erwin hissed and glared at me.

"Yeah! Don't worry. You'll only be in jail forever!~" Hanji smiled.

I held my gun firmly as I looked at them from one to one. No. No one is taking him away from me. But how. How will I get out of this.

•Boy oh boy~ Looks like you're in another situation•

"No..."

•You're sure to get caught. Why not push over a few dominoes while you still can?•

"Shut up.."

•Better yet...I can get rid of them all. Just give me the okay~•

"...." I stayed silent and then gripped the gun harder. "This is the last time...I need you" I said.

•I'll take that as a yes~ It might get a little messy•

Like a snap of a finger, Levi changed. His rational thoughts leaving him, all except for a crazed look in his eyes. "If you're all gonna get in my way. You better do it fast" he said with a twisted grin.

"Oops" he said as he suddenly shot at someone. A thud was heard as they fell to the ground.

Who was it. Who?!

Everyone looked around when they felt nothing pierce their skin. Everyone except Marco who was on the ground, bleeding out of his stomach. "Agh hh hhgh.." he struggled to bleed, coughing.

"MARCO!" Jean yelled and hurriedly kneeled trying to stop the bleeding however he could. "It's gonna be okay. Look at me. Look at me." He said.

Eren's eyes widened. As if that one action had triggered a painful flashback. Connie dead. Sasha dead.

"Hmm? Not enough huh?" I grinned and ran towards Mikasa who quickly braced herself, running towards me. "MIKASA STop! You don't know what he's capable of!" Eren yelled, fearing her life.

I passed her. I grinned and shot Armin in the side. "Oh darn. My aim was a little off. That's okay. I have multiple tries." I grinned. Eren screamed when he saw Armin fall to the ground, Mikasa's face turning pale as she turned around.

"What? Not everything is about you" I grinned as I turned to Mikasa who was misled about who I was going to attack.

I grinned at the glares and panicked looks I recieved from the actions taken place. I slowly opened my mouth, licking the front row of my teeth.

"I'm glad to be back"
