Chapter 70

Dean sounded happy. "Great, im going to go on a supply run and get some stuff for him to eat and some we might need. Kaylee, you're coming with me." Dean waved me over so we could leave and return to the cars, but I didn't want to talk with my brother. "What's going on?" Dean asked while we drove to the store. "Nothing, Dean, cut it out. I don't want to talk about it." I snapped. "Is it the time of the month for you?" he asked. I glared at him. "Shut up, your such an ass," I growled and ignored him. After we got all the Stuff for Kevin, we returned to the boat and brought the stuff to Kevin. Dean asked if Sam had found something. "Yeah, demon signs, ten years ago, all centered on Shoshone, Idaho," Sam replied. "Okay, well, big-time mojo means a big-time freak. So, anybody has a horseshoe shoved up his ass?" Dean asked. "That's one way of putting it."

Sam chuckled, turning his laptop to us. "Meet the Cassitys, small-time farmers who struck oil on their land in February of '03, which is weird because of geological surveys," Sam said, but Dean interrupted him. "Yeah, you had me at "weird." All right. We thinking deal?" he said while I read the article. "Sounds like it," I mumbled, looking at Sam. "Best lead we've got." Sam closed the laptop, and while Dean talked with Kevin, I walked to the door. With a last hand wave, I said goodbye to Kevin before leaving, breathing a sigh of relief as I stood beside my car. "Let's meet those hillbillies," Dean grumbled. We drove to Idaho to the farm; as I followed Dean's car through the gate, I saw the farm and the horses peaking out of the stable. I exited the car and waited for my brothers, who were still inside.

I decided not to wear the sling since my shoulder felt good but was still sore. "Keep an eye out for anybody hallucinating, freaking out the usual," Sam warned me, which I acknowledged with a nod. "Got it," I whispered as we approached a tractor with a person underneath. "Hey, Pal, who runs this joint?" Dean asked, but when the person revealed himself, it was a Hispanic woman. "You're looking at her," she said with a slight accent. "You own the ranch?" Sam asked while I had the same question on my mind. "Nope, just managing the property. You here for the job?" she asked. Dean smiled. "How you guessed?" he asked. "We get our share of drifters," she replied, ignoring Deans's flirting attempts. "I only need two," she said. "We a tight deal," I said, stepping forward. "All right, I always need a hand working horses." she looked me up and down before turning towards the barn.

We followed her. "Ever worked on a farm before?" she asked while walking. "I have worked when I was younger." I said behind her. "great, what about them?" she asked towards Sam and Dean. "Definitely," Dean answered. "Were quick learners," Sam added, next to me, that a man had walked up to us just as we were halfway over the yard. "Ellie, who we got here?" he asked, looking at Sam, Dean, and myself. "Im Dean. our sister Kaylee, and that's Sam." Dean introduced us. "Oh, Carl Granville. A pleasure." he smiled and shook our hands. "Pleasure, so you're not a Cassity?" I asked, curious; Carl shook his head. "No, my wife is. She and her family own the place. I'm just one of those, uh – what you call them?" he said, patting his belly. "Trophy husbands," he said, laughing and making me smile. "So we hiring them?" Carl asked our guide. "Not sure yet." she shrugged. "Oh, come on. They seem like swell guys, and she, too." Carl nodded back to us. We said goodbye for now and followed Ellie into the barn, where she showed us our rooms. "You beds down in here. Breakfast is at 5:00, dinner is at 8:00, and in between, you're mine—questions?" she said, a little annoyed. Dean mumbled something about his room, and I pushed him with a light scoff. "Were good." Sam gave Ellie a thankful smile. "Yeah, thank you." I smiled, looking into my room, just like my brothers. "Okay. The job is yours if you want it. But I better warn you – it's crap work." she said; I looked over to my brothers; we all knew work was beginning. After we got settled, Ellie took us to work, and while Sam and Dean shoved horse poop into carts, I had a more straightforward job saddling horses and riding them in an arena next to the barn. "Why does Kaylee get the cooler job?" I heard Dean grumble as I entered the barn with my horse just as Ellie, who introduced herself to me, and a woman had a heated argument at the barn entrance. I tried my best to ignore it and care for the horse when I heard Dean talk; I saw him with Ellie. I walked up to Dean and Sam, who joined us. "Wo, what are we thinking?" Sam asked while I put the horse back into the box.

"What, dealwise? Well, Ellie's the help, so that rules her out." Dean shrugged. "Not really; she could hide something," I mumbled behind them. "And Carl doesn't seem like the sell-your-soul type. So, Alice?" Sam asked. Dean agreed, but I was still cautious. "That's what you might think, but im not sure about Carl," I told my brothers while I put on a halter on another horse. "Should we just talk to her?" Sam asked. "Why? So she can lie to us and then call the cops? No. No, we'll have to go stalker on this one, Sammy." Dean said. "You guys do that while Im gonna have an eye on Ellie," I whispered.
