Colbat
The footfalls outside were loud, almost deafening, from where the small form sheltered in their closet; needless to say, he was terrified. He remembers the weird sounds that had started around midnight, just a few a hours after his parents left him with a mumbled 'good night'. At first, he shook them off; he was tired, it was the early morning hours, he just couldn't function properly. As the night dragged on, however, he realised that this was real.
The creature outside was humming now; the noise was flat, it lacked clear rhythm, and was unrecognizable. The sound was strange, verging on chilling, to listen to. With a glance through the closet's slitted doors, he could feel the panic seep in. His breathing was quick now, trying to fill tiny lungs; his pale skin and dark hair slick with sweat that seemed to come in an endless supply. A shaky hand rose to cover up and silence the whimpers pushing past his lips.
'I'm gonna die.' His thoughts drowned out the creature's noises it made, the silent drilling of this statement destroying any and all thoughts he had previously had. Over and over they called, they mocked his situation, over and over they pointed out the obvious; death was so close, so unavoidable.
Scratching at the door disrupted his thoughts, and another glance through the slats confirmed his fears; the creature was there, and it was waiting. He let out a shriek and scrambled back as the doors were flung open, a whimper sounding as his back brushed up against the wall.
