Chapter 14

Something that have always loved about Dawn is how she always looks so beautiful no matter the situation. She looks beautiful even walking down the street alone, crying silent tears. I see her from a distance and do everything in my power to not to run to her and embrace her in a hug. A small drizzle forms in the city air, making everything seem enhanced in beauty. The smell of the autumn leaves brushing against the damp pavement fills my nose. The city lights glow off of Dawn's rosy skin. She looks so healthy and young compared to the last time I saw her.

I see the headlights of a large vehicle approach Dawn. The bus spins out of control and comes mere centimeters away from my sister. I run at lightning speed and pull her away from the bus right in time. And that is all I do. I don't stop to say anything. I just leave.

Back to the time it is now. A year from then. I run faster, excited to see the new timeline I have created. One where Dawn is alive and Caitlin, Harry, and Jesse, are still here. I get to the Cortex, expecting to see bliss and joy. Instead, I see a world that isn't to much better than the one I left.

Cisco and Caitlin are bickering about something irrelevant, Joe sits alone in a chair upset about who knows what, and Harry is just writing equations on a glass board.

"Hey guys," I say walking in cheerfully. I get death stares from around the room. I act like I didn't see the sass sent my way.

"So," I chirp. "Where's Dawn?"

Caitlin looks at me like I have grown to heads. I see a bit of sympathy in her eyes and it confuses me. Jesse enters the room at that moment.

"Did you just ask where Dawn was? Wow, Barry. That's really an all time low even for you," she says in disgust.

"What?"

"Do I need to remind you again Barry?" She yells in a sassy tone. "Are you still in denial of what you did?"

Oh no.  I don't like where this is going.

"Barry, you let Dawn go. Kicked her out. She moved foster homes and we don't see her for a few months. And then we do see her- on the news. I still see the the headlines. 'Fifteen year old girl beaten to death'. Your fault."

"That's enough," says Joe.  No, No, no, no. This is not happening. I made it worse.

"I- I have to go," I choke. I leave, preparing to reset the timeline once more.
