Chapter 4
"I received a prophecy from StarClan!" announced Applekit, sprinting up to Swiftkit.
Swiftkit rolled her yellow eyes speedily, "Yeah, you said that last time and nothing even happened to LeafClan. We got more prey than ever before, actually!"
"Shhh, Quickstar!" hissed Applekit, "We can't tell the Clan!"
"But we need to pick a deputy!" snarled Swiftkit quickly and suddenly all the kits were awake.
"Deputy?" they smirked, sidling over.
Swiftkit looked, disgusted, at them. "None of you will be getting it if you act like that?"
They all shuffled back in shame and stood attentively.
"I think that Swallowtooth shall be our deputy," announced the 'leader', looking at Pigeonkit with decisive eyes.
"Swallowtooth! Swallowtooth!" they cheered, and the new deputy dipped his head. Then, he stood and carefully trailed over to Swiftkit.
"Is it okay if I kill you? For plot reasons," added the short-furred tom.
Swiftkit thought for a moment and then nodded brightly at Pigeonkit.
"Okay, I'll pretend to ambush you soon."
The day came and went, with the kits doing various activities, most of which included getting underpaw and bothering the elders. They went on some patrols, too, but they found soon Furzekit was incapable of anything like that. Lots of screaming came from the elder's den that day, mostly from Otterspeckle. The sun shimmered above, then slowly it sunk toward the ground, allowing shadows and gloom to cover the camp.
Now, the kits were simply milling around the camp. Shadows jumped and skittered around them as they moved around.
Suddenly, Pigeonkit leaped up onto the rock. He swept his light brown gaze around.
"LeafClan! I have an important announcement to make!"
All of the kits wandered over and Swiftkit glared.
"That's my spot!"
"Not for long..." smirked the kit.
"What?" She tilted her head in surprise.
Pigeonkit sprung onto her with no warning. She screamed and leaped away. He fell to the ground.
The rest of LeafClan was now panicking, randomly screeching words that made no sense.
"Help! Someone help our leader!"
"We're being overthrown!"
"Oh no!"
Pigeonkit snarled and approached her, tail lashing. He sprung onto her and pinned her to the ground, eyes narrowed.
"I never liked you as my leader, so now you die!" He proclaimed.
The rest of the Clan continued to howl, running around in circles. Perhaps, they thought that if they ran around, StarClan would save their leader.
Spoiler alert, that's not how it works.
Pigeonkit swiped a paw over her face and the she-kit fell still, but it was obvious she was breathing. He kicked her away and she made a small 'oof' noise. He hissed.
"You're supposed to be dead!"
She lay even stiller.
"Good."
Pigeonkit turned back to them, maliciously smiling, "Now I will be your leader - Swallowstar!"
Suddenly, Applekit screeched, "I have received a prophecy!"
"Literally nobody cares, Peppermintpool," pointed out Pikekit.
Applekit frowned, beginning to say, "That's not fair-"
"Anyways, I have to pick a deputy now!" Pigeonkit smiled, casually cutting off Applekit and glancing around, "And that will be... uhh... Flowertail!"
Cloverkit tilted her head, "But I've never had an apprentice-"
"Sh!" Pigeonkit hissed.
Cloverkit shrunk back, "S-s-orry... I didn't mean- mean- to s-say that. S-sorry..." she whispered.
Pigeonkit rolled his light brown eyes and swept them around.
"Anyways, cheer her name!"
"Flowertail, Flowertail!" cheered the Clan.
Swiftkit suddenly rose to her paws, glaring heavily at the entire Clan. "I just died and nobody cares!"
Troutkit spoke up shyly, "S-s-s-orry... I f-forgot-..."
Swiftkit frowned quickly.
"Er-... uh... that's fine..." Furzekit interrupted.
They all tilted their heads at him, and Cloverkit rushed forward, apologizing again for his dimness. They all turned back to the task.
"My prophecy!" Applekit said again, "Is about Quickstar's return!"
They all looked at her, confused.
"Quickstar is supposedly supposed to return in a magical way! StarClan tells me so... And according to StarClan, she holds the power of healing in her paws!"
"Oooooh," everyone murmured.
"And here I am," purred Swiftkit, heading over to them.
"You're not supposed to know!" snapped Pigeonkit.
"Sorry!" hissed Swiftkit. She backed up and then wandered into the gathering of cats with an innocent facade printed on her face. She grinned at everyone, flicking her tail in a greeting.
Swiftkit squeaked, "Hi! I'm Leapkit."
Pigeonkit narrowed his eyes at her, "And what business do you have in LeafClan?"
"Oh, I was orphaned," she answered with a slight frown, "But some cool starry cat lead me here. They were super nice and told me I was very powerful, and I had to be careful of that."
Pigeonkit shared a glance with Applekit.
"Alright, well, welcome to LeafClan."
"Leapkit! Leapkit!"
"Minnowpaw, entertain the kit while I sort patrols," ordered Pigeonkit, and Cloverkit glanced at the leader.
She tilted her head, "But deputies are the ones who sort patrols-"
"Sh!" snapped Pigeonkit.
"S-sorry... I didn't mean to-..."
Pigeonkit rolled his eyes at his sister as she shrunk back anxiously.
Pikekit turned to Swiftkit and smiled, waving his tail at her.
"This is boring," proclaimed Swiftkit, "Can I be an apprentice!"
Applekit suddenly yelped, "Prophecy!"
Everyone quieted.
"Swiftkit- I mean, Leapkit is to become my apprentice... Leappaw, are you willing to be a medicine cat and save lives?"
"Those aren't the words!" snapped Pigeonkit.
"Sh!" hissed the she-kit good-naturedly, and Pikekit rolled his eyes.
"I do!"
"Then you will be my apprentice."
"Leappaw! Leappaw!" they cheered.
"Yaay!" exclaimed Furzekit, despite having no idea what was going on.
Suddenly, amber eyes appeared behind them.
"What are you idiots doing?" snarled a voice.
Yarrowpaw.
It was nearly impossible to get through a day without teasing or hissing from the she-cat, but the past few days had been mostly peaceful, considering her anyway. But today she seemed angry, fury glittering in her amber eyes and her dark gray tabby pelt fluffed up.
"Playing," answered Pikekit.
"Well, stop, you're harassing the entire Clan with your screeching," she growled, "You woke me and Lynxpaw up, so you need to be quiet. Plus, why don't you just go do something else? Playing as other cats are boring."
Cloverkit's eyes narrowed but she whispered, "S-s-sorry, Y-Yarrowpaw..."
"Why do you stutter?" Yarrowpaw laughed.
"I-I'm s-s-sorry...!" Cloverkit scuttled off to the nursery.
Furzekit tripped after her.
"The most intelligent," Yarrowpaw claimed, looking at Furzekit as he tumbled dimly into the nursery.
Suddenly, Coppercloud came limping from the nursery. Immediately, Yarrowpaw whisked away, but not after insulting the kits again. The remaining kits glared at the apprentice and then turned politely to the she-cat.
"It's time to sleep now, dears," Coppercloud cooed.
"But we were just-" Applekit started.
Coppercloud shook her head, "It's time now to sleep."
The moon watched over the camp.
"S-sorry, w-we'll come sl-sleep now," stammered Troutkit shyly.
Coppercloud smiled pleasantly at them all, ushering them into the den. They all got settled in their little nests, laying their heads on their paws, curling their tails around themselves comfortably.
"Idiots," Yarrowpaw's sharp, mocking tone drifted into the den as they fell asleep.
Hi again, it's Lamb. I realized that I asked the same question for the past two chapters, so answer me this: who is your least favorite kit so far?
