Chapter 3

Swiftkit was the first awake, and when she did wake up, she was quickly rising to her paws. Her brown-tipped tail was lashing speedily through the air as she gazed around the den.

The majority of the den was asleep still. She rolled her eyes, prancing over to the elder's den.

Maybe the elders will listen to me. The other kits don't care about my stories or ideas, She thought, quickly racing faster toward the den. She barely looked at the camp as she raced by.

Behind her, she heard a faint call.

"Sw-Swift-kit-kit...!"

And suddenly, all the kits came charging out of the nursery.

"Swiftkit! Swiftkit! We want to play!"

"Play with each other," Swiftkit hissed, irritated, "I wanted to go talk to the elders."

"Um, do you know what that-" Pigeonkit began.

"Really? Those crusty, old, almost-dead guys?" interrupted Pikekit, clearly shocked.

Swiftkit scoffed and walked off.

Everyone else tumbled after her. She hissed and slipped into the elder's den. She grinned at each of them.

One, whose name was Lightningstripe, looked up and snapped, "Get out. We don't need meddling kits in our den."

"Back in my day, the kits were well behaved-" started Otterspeckle in an elderly tone.

"Hey, be nice, Otterspeckle," said a patchy-furred she-cat. Her name was Mothfur, for clear reasons.

Furzekit stumbled right into the middle of the den.

"And they weren't stupid-" began Otterspeckle once more.

"We just wanted to hear a story!" exclaimed Pigeonkit and the entire den silenced. Furzekit began to chew on a piece of moss, and Cloverkit rushed over.

She apologized, "I'm- I'm sorry, Furzekit's- not the brightest, and I think- I'm sorry, he doesn't know- what he's doing- I'm so sorry..." She hushed Furzekit, who mumbled something slowly.

Otterspeckle stared at the kit.

The two elders that weren't mentioned yet, Poppystem and Mudpool, shared a glance.

"Story, you say?" Mudpool inquired.

"Yes!" chirped Applekit curiously.

"Once there were an annoying group of kits who kept bothering the elders. The elders were very angry with the kits and began to scream at them to leave-" Otterspeckle started. Cloverkit listened intently, her eyes wide. Applekit's ears were pricked curiously.

Poppystem glared sharply at Otterspeckle, "Once upon a time, there was a lovely warrior. This warrior was named Elderpelt-"

"Invalid!" trilled Otterspeckle.

"And Elderpelt was very kind but very old. Not many people appreciated Elderpelt because of their elderliness. The leader, Berrystar, didn't like them. The deputy, Leafheart, didn't like them. The medicine cat, Speckleleaf, didn't like them. So they died."

The kits all stared at Poppystem, eyes wide. "Woah..." they murmured.

"What a deathly great story," hissed Otterspeckle, "Now, Mudpool, get these bothersome idiots out."

Mudpool glanced at Otterspeckle rather irritatedly, and Applekit exclaimed, "That's not fair, we barely did anything!"

"Back in my day, kits didn't complain about fairness-" snapped Otterspeckle, rolling her eyes angrily.

Lightningstripe screeched, "Leave them alone!"

The kits' eyes went wide as the elderly she-cat stood to face Lightningstripe.

"Get these kits out! I hate them!"

The kits shuffled out of the den with Cloverkit dragging along Furzekit. They all stared at each other for a moment, hearing screaming from the elder's den, before they all shuffled toward the entrance of camp.

"I'm bored," announced Pigeonkit with a stomp of his paw.

"You're always bored," Swiftkit snapped quickly in reply.

"Okay, I have an idea," Pikekit interrupted. Everyone silenced immediately, turning to stare at the plump, brown tom-kit.

He blinked a bit before continuing, "Okay, so, we all pick a character to play. We all choose a warrior name, it doesn't matter if it has your prefix or suffix or not, and we all act out as them. And then we just play like that, and it'll be fun!"

"So like a roleplay?" asked Applekit curiously.

"Uhh, sure, whatever that is...?" Pikekit tilted his head and Applekit bounced excitedly.

"Okay! We all live in LeafClan. My name is Peppermintpool and I'm our medicine cat. As long as none of you want to be the medicine cat," she added quickly.

"That's fine," answered Swiftkit speedily, "I'll be Quickstar, leader of LeafClan. My cat's strong and powerful and has long, luscious gray fur!"

Furzekit mumbled something slowly, "I'll- be Moss... Mossflame..."

"A warrior?" questioned Cloverkit.

The rather dim kit nodded slowly.

"I'll be Flowertail, a pretty, silver-furred she-cat with darker tabby stripes," Cloverkit added.

"I'll be Swallowtooth, a dark gray tom with sharp green eyes," Pigeonkit decided.

"And I'll be Minnowpaw," Pikekit smiled, "Who wants to mentor me?"

"Um-um- I- w-will, I'll be Sal-Salmonleap," Troutkit stammered shyly.

Pikekit nodded brightly at her, "Okay!"

Swiftkit jumped up on a nearby rock that suddenly appeared out of nowhere and slapped her tail against the rock. A loud echoing noise bounded around camp and all the kits turned to 'Quickstar'.

"LeafClan! We have been peaceful this past moon, but StarClan has sent Peppermintpool a message about our deputy!"

A hushed silence fell over the gathered cats as Applekit rose to her paws, lifting her head and trotting up to stand on the rock rather poshly. She cleared her throat and sniffled, coughing for a moment.

"Well, there goes the illusion," muttered Swiftkit swiftly.

"I saw a flower with a tail at the Moonpool at the last visit," Applekit announced, and Cloverkit gasped.

"Really?"

"Hush!" snapped Pikekit.

Cloverkit's ears flattened and she whispered, "I'm-I'm sorry... I didn't- mean- to- make things worse, I'm- I'm s-so sorry..."

Suddenly, Applekit fell off the rock.

"Peppermintpool?!" Swiftkit shouted, leaping down to her medicine cat. She lifted a paw and poked Applekit gently in the side.

"She's receiving a prophecy!" Swiftkit announced quickly, looking at the other kit. Applekit lay there and twitched an ear.

"The prophecy!" gasped Pikekit, "Will it become true?"

Applekit then rose to her paws, eyes blazing. "The prophecy has changed," she said gravely, "And LeafClan is in deep trouble. And unfortunately, only one cat can save us from the horrors that will come to us soon!"

The entire group of kits silenced, gazing at their 'medicine cat' with surprise.

"I must dwell on this now," Applekit mewed, rushing away into the actual medicine cat's den.

All of the kits watched as the she-kit was kicked out of the den. An angry howl came from inside and Applekit trudged back over.

"I got kicked out," she reported miserably.

"Obviously," Swiftkit rolled her eyes quickly, "Now just tell us the prophecy!"

"I can't tell the whole Clan, Quickstar!" snapped Applekit, looking at the sky curiously. "Also, my character is pretty secretive so I won't be telling anyone about the prophecy," Applekit whispered a moment later.

Swiftkit suddenly nodded in understanding, "Oh, okay! That's fine."

Hello again, it's Lamb! The original writer for this chapter couldn't write it so I'm here again. I'll be here next time, too! Anyway, which kit is your favorite?
