Chapter 19

"Pikachu! I choose you!" Pikekit said, flicking his tail at Pigeonkit.

"Eevee! I choose you!" The gray kit replied just as eagerly. The two tom kits lunged at each other, rolling around while shouting commands.

"Eevee! Use Bite!" Pikekit let out a yowl when Pigeonkit chomped down on his tail. Pigeonkit didn't let go and shook his head in an attempt to toss the older kit. Pikekit yanked his tail out of his grasp and ran back. The kit whirled around on his paws and crouched down.

"Pikachu! Quick attack!" Pikekit came charging towards Pigeonkit at full speed. His head smashed into Pigeonkit's head and the other kit saw stars. Pikekit raised his paw to attack again.

"Thunder punch!!!!" The tom's paw lashed across Pigeonkit's face.

"Disarming voice!!!" Pigeonkit screeched. Pikekit tipped his head at his friend. Pigeonkit sprang up on his four paws and leaned closer to Pikekit. It was a wrestle to pin the other one down, but when he did do, Pigeonkit screamed as loud as he could.

That woke up the other kits in their game. Either an old crow was being squeezed to make it let out the most mangled screech, or the two kits finally took up singing as a talent.

"Shut it!" Swiftkit demanded. "We don't wanna play Pokémon anymore!" Troutkit and Furzekit didn't seem bothered by the nose. Cloverkit didn't say much about the ear-splitting voice.

Pikekit rolled around on the ground in agony. "Make it stop!!! Make it stop!!!" He yowled, flattening his ears and covering them with his paws. Pigeonkit stopped abruptly and let out a grin. The other tom still was on the ground, trying to get his hearing back.

"I think he's gonna be dead," Applekit declared. "We shall mourn his death."

"I wanna do something," Troutkit mumbled. "I'm bored already."

"Well, we're in a Pokémon mood, why don't we play Pokémon?" Applekit suggested, "it's fair and all."

"But we've played Pokémon before and it's getting boring," Swiftkit commented. "We need something else fun."

"We could always play hide and seek..." Cloverkit suggested shyly. All of the kits ignored her suggestion and moved on.

"We need something big," Furzekit declared.

"Not Pokémon," Troutkit said.

"We already discussed this," Pigeonkit said, shaking his head, "besides, I'll be the best."

"Like no one ever was," Applekit sang.

"I GOT IT!" Swiftkit shouted happily. "Guys! You know what would be better than Pokémon???"

"You being quiet?" Applekit said.

"No," the older she-kit growled with her teeth clenched together. "The cheap knockoff of Pokémon!"

"There are plenty of knockoffs of Pokémon, Swiftkit," Applekit said with a huff. The other she-kit had lost interest already.

Swiftkit was determined, however. "No no no," she shook her head, "it's called Digimon."

"Digimon?" Cloverkit asked.

"Anyone gonna question why Pikekit hasn't replied?" Troutkit commented, shooting a friendly grin at the brown tabby. "I think he's still recovering."

"Leave him. We're gonna play Digimon!" Swiftkit said.

"What's Digimon?" Furzekit asked.

Swiftkit rolled her eyes. "Do you know anything?" She glared at Cloverkit, who shrank back. "Digimon is like Pokémon except there were so many remakes of it, no cat knows which one was the first. Well, I guess if you look at the dates when they came out, you could tell."

"What are the different versions?" Cloverkit asked softly, hoping that she wouldn't annoy Swiftkit. To her shock, the white she-kit didn't explode with rage or annoyance. Cloverkit let out a sigh of relief.

"The first one was like Pokémon, but each person only had one Digimon. Apparently, they could evolve and then go back to their original state."

"They could go back?" Troutkit repeated.

"Yes," Swiftkit explained. "That is the main concept of it, add the plot line and then you're good. The next version was slightly better, Digimon was coding, and they used a machine to command them."

"So a computer?" Furzekit asked.

"Correct. They used cards since Digimon suddenly became a card game like Pokémon," Swiftkit explained. "They would swipe cards like evolution, medicine, stuff like that into the machine, and then their Digimon would get that card."

"Could they reuse the card?" Pigeonkit asked.

"I think so," Swiftkit frowned, "it's been four years since I've last watched it, so, I'm kinda weak on facts. The last version was by far the best. This one was a fusion. You could fuse the Digimon together to create new Digimon that are even stronger!"

"Ooh," Cloverkit mused. "I like this, can play it?"

"Well, what version?" Pigeonkit questioned. "And what are the Digimon?"

"We'll improvise," Swiftkit offered. "We just have to be like, you are Pigeonmon."

"Pigeonmon?"

"Yeah, all Digimon ended with 'mon'," Swiftkit said.

"Let's play!" Troutkit cheered.

"We need leaves!" Pigeonkit protested. "For cards, at least."

"I wanna fuse with a cat!" Applekit declared. "I use fuse with Swiftkit!" The other kit threw herself over Swiftkit, latching on tightly.

Swiftkit wobbled under the weight. She regained her posture and then grinned at the other kits. "Better come up with a solution!"

"I found the leaves!" Pigeonkit said, snatching Cloverkit up with him. Cloverkit let out a squeak of alarm. "Clovermon is gonna kick all of you to the dust!"

"Hey hey!" Applekit snapped, grabbing both Troutkit and Furzekit. "You two are going to help me make things fair and settle things out!"

"We are?" Furzekit asked, clearly confused on what they were doing.

"What are we doing...?" Troutkit yawned.

"Wait... sorry for asking this, but are we basically fighting to fight...? Sorry!!!" Cloverkit squeaked.

"I think...?"

"Pikekit's still down," Pigeonkit commented, gesturing towards the knocked out kit.

"Fight!!!" Swiftkit roared, tackling into Troutkit and Furzekit. Cloverkit let out a yelp and ducked, not wanting to include herself into the fighting. Pigeonkit jumped back as Applekit, not even playing as a Digimon, ran up and tackled him. That blew both over and crashed into poor Pikekit.

The tom was still suffering from Pigeonkit's screech. Pikekit didn't even get up to fight back. Cloverkit was sent flying across the nursery. Troutkit found herself hanging onto Swiftkit, who was being pinned down by both Troutkit and Furzekit.

"Are we just fighting to fight...?" Cloverkit wailed. "I'm sorry to ask!"

"Well... I wanted Digimon because we needed something else to play besides Pokémon," Swiftkit replied.

"But all we do is fight," Pigeonkit said. "That's pretty much how we'll settle things out."

"But Digimon you have to join forces to defeat the grand master of evilness!" Swiftkit protested angrily. "We need a cat to overpower!"

"The leader!" Pigeonkit shouted.

At this, Pikekit woke up. "We're taking over the leader???"

"Yes!" Swiftkit agreed.

"As long as we split the victory fairly," Applekit added sharply.

"I don't know what we're doing, but it seems fun!" Troutkit chirped.

"Yes!" Furzekit added. "Let's take over the litter!"

"Leader, not litter," Pigeonkit corrected.

"Wait---" Cloverkit was cut off by Swiftkit.

"Digimon, charge!!!" Swiftkit roared, breaking into a full sprint and out of the nursery. Pikekit scrambled behind with his sister when something clamped down on his tail. He turned around and squealed.

Applekit looked over her shoulder and her eyes widened at the sight. The she-kit was also snatched up as well by the unknown force. Troutkit whirled around when her sister was in danger, and she was taken too. Furzekit and Pigeonkit managed to get out from the incoming attacks. Cloverkit, on the other paw, was too scared to even say sorry when she was taken.

"We're all gonna die!!!" Pigeonkit screamed, crashing into the middle of the camp. He looked up to see that Swiftkit wasn't anywhere to be seen. Pigeonkit looked around for Pikekit and saw that Pikekit was taken as well.

The night breeze swept past them, ruffling his fur. Pigeonkit hoped that their playing didn't disturb the whole Clan. That one disarming voice was pretty loud and could've at least waken some warriors.

He gulped and turned around. Pigeonkit jumped back in the shadow of the figure. Its gleaming eyes towered over the little kit. Pigeonkit backed away slowly, shaking from head to toe.

Meanwhile, Swiftkit had managed to find the leader's den, no problem. Wherever her forces went, who knows. The white she-cat crept into the room, spotting the sleeping figure of her leader.

"You're mine!!!" She screeched, taking the strongest jump she could manage. Shatterstar slowly got up before Swiftkit tackled into him.

Shatterstar watched as the little kit pummeled with all her might against him. The she-kit hollered as she tried to run around him.

"Swiftkit, isn't it?" He said, still watching her. "You're tired, it's the middle of the night even though cats aren't supposed to know the time, but, I'm the leader so I know more."

"I'm not tired!" Swiftkit roared. "I'm a Digimon and we never rest! So I'm not tired!!!" She ran around him more.

"Ah, Digimon," Shatterstar purred, "I played that as a kit, but you know what happened to it?" He reached down and scooped the kit in his jaws.

"I'm not tired!!!" She squeaked, kicking around.

Right as Shatterstar left the leader's den, Swiftkit fell asleep in his jaws.

"Digimon all went away, and is still sleeping today, as you should," Shatterstar entered the nursery to see all of the other kits, caught by their mother's, resting beside them.

He set the kit down beside Pikekit, who instantly seemed to punch her brother, even when asleep. Shatterstar turned around to glance at the kits.

"What am I going to do when you all become apprentices?"
