.01
When he let his mind went further back, Jungkook believed that it was his fault after all and he knew he shouldn't have blamed her a hundred percent for getting pissed at him. He realized he'd become a little bit possessive and he knew it wouldn't be healthy.
After spending his time to think of why his previous relationship didn't work apart from having his ex-girlfriend cheating on him, he realized that he was at fault as well, and it was for being too clingy that it suffocated the other person.
He realized that it was repeating, the history was repeating and if he didn't try to fix this, if he didn't try to change himself, he would never be able to find his own happiness. No, he might be able to find it, but it wouldn't last with him.
Chaeyoung was totally not in the mood for everything and he couldn't believe that he was being selfish that he didn't stop bothering her even when she sounded stern on the first warning she gave him. He knew it was that time of the month for her, and knew that it might be for that reason that she was having mood swings. The right thing to do was to not bother her when she told him the first time, and he should have made some efforts to cheer her up, not the other way around.
He couldn't believe he was being a kid when she didn't entertain him. He couldn't believe he spat his anger when she pushed him away the moment he continuously tried to kiss her even when she refused. He couldn't believe he let his jealousy ate him alive when she decided to put all of her focus on her work, he couldn't believe he was whining like a little brat who wasn't granted what he wanted.
*Flashback*
"Can't even spend five minutes on me? I miss you like hell and you can't even look away from your computer," Jungkook sighed, approaching Chaeyoung who was having her brows furrowed deeply while she was flipping through her designs. He grabbed a chair and took a seat next to her, casually slipping his hand to the nape of her neck, his thumb brushing against the soft skin. "Chaeyoung."
"Not now, Jungkook," she said, pushing his hand away from her neck, eyes not looking away from all the papers she was holding.
"I miss you. So freaking much that I'd die if you won't look at me for one second," he attempted with a teasing laughter that followed next, but it met with a failure as well. Slowly, he moved his face towards her, rested his chin on her shoulder and kissed the side of her face with a sound. "Pasta..." he breathed.
"Jungkook, please." She moved her head away from him after he heard her groaned. "I said not now. I'm not in the mood, so please leave me alone."
Jungkook ignored her as his fingers touched her hair, pulling the loose hair tie gently, causing her hair to fall, cascading her shoulders. He chuckled when she hissed, even went as far as teasing her with whispers of exaggerated affections.
And that made the bomb exploded within her. "Stop doing this, will you? You're making it hard for me to breathe!"
Upon hearing that, his heart fell hard to the floor and he couldn't help the anger rising from the pit of his stomach, sliding smoothly up his throat before it took off into the air. "Did you even realize what you just said? You're saying my being a sweet boyfriend to you is suffocating you? That's what you mean? That's what you fucking mean?!"
"Yes! That's exactly what I meant. I'm glad I didn't have to explain it to you! And let me correct you. That is not being sweet anymore. If you really want to be sweet, you should also be an understanding person."
Jungkook felt his temper building up when he was slapped with those words. His voice was deep when he responded to her, "Am I not that understanding for you? If you didn't realize, I was being one for wanting you to take a break from your stupid work. And you're telling me that I'm not being understanding?"
"Understanding isn't only about that! I needed space but you wouldn't give it to me. If you totally understand me you should have given me some space for myself when I needed it! And, excuse me, what? Stupid work? You just insulted what I like, did you realize that?"
"Goddamn it, I don't understand you women. Why is it that whenever you're on your period, everything is everyone else's fault and none of it is yours? Why do you have to get angry over one small thing?!"
"Well, try to be a woman and you'll understand!"
It left him with no word to counter her back and both of them were silent, the tension he was feeling didn't lessen one bit. He could hear his own breathing, so loud in his ears as he stared at her who was staring at the floor before she brought both her palms to press against her face. She ran her palms up her face, combed her hair to the back and sighed softly before she lifted her face to look at him with a softened look.
"Jungkook..." she softly said and tried to approach him.
He was still burning hot and refused to even listen to anything she was going to say, quickly turning around and stormed out of her house with a bang of the front door. He heard her opening the door and called his name and he did turn around just to respond, "You need your space so much, right? You can have it, because I'm done with you."
*End of flashback*
Jungkook stared at the text message Chaeyoung had sent to him around an hour after the fight, telling him how sorry she was for saying those words to him. He realized his own mistakes, but was too ego to admit that what she had stated was all true. Even so, he found himself unable to rid her off his mind. The image of when her face fell the moment he said he was done with her kept circling on his mind and he felt his heart crushed every time he thought about it.
Despite the constant thought of her, Jungkook put his phone away instead of giving any responses to her. He lay on his bed with his arm behind his head, another hand busy changing the channel, none stayed for more than five seconds to be watched by his eyes.
Jungkook chewed on his lip and glanced at his phone when it buzzed on the bedside table. He wanted to ignore but there was a strange voice in his head that was telling him to pick it up. Slowly, he reached for the device and knitted his brows for a few seconds when he saw the ID of the caller.
It wasn't Chaeyoung. It was her friend, Jennie.
Biting on his inner cheek, Jungkook slowly slid his thumb on the screen and pressed the phone onto his ear. "Yes?"
He was still in an awkward phase with both of Chaeyoung's acquaintances and it was rare to speak to Jennie on the phone, because she would only talk to him if it was about Chaeyoung and that it was really important.
"Where are you?" Jennie shouted from the other line and Jungkook knew that she was actually in the club they frequented.
"Home. Why?" he tried his best to sound calm.
"Why aren't you here with Chaeyoung? My boyfriend had an emergency and needed to go, but Chaeyoung refused to come with us. I feel like there's something happened between you two that she's now here without you, but I'm not going to question you about that yet so I need you to come here, because I don't want her to be alone."
Even before Jennie finished talking, he was already standing up from his bed, looking for some outfit to change into and as soon as the line went dead, he tossed his phone to his bed, quickly dressing himself up before grabbing the keys and phone and dashed out of his house.
*
"What's wrong with you? You seem off," Jennie said, taking a seat next to Chaeyoung while she ordered her drink.
"Nothing," Chaeyoung answered flatly, staring at her phone with a slight pout.
She planned on answering every question Jennie was going to throw at her with 'I don't know' and 'Nothing' but it seemed as though her friend, miraculously, didn't question her further like she would always do and just kept quiet next to her. Instead of comforting her with words, Jennie squeezed her shoulder tenderly and rubbed her back.
"Just...don't drink too much, okay?" her friend said while patting her back.
"I know," Chaeyoung responded, eyes not leaving her phone for one bit. She had been staring at it, waiting for a single respond from Jungkook but it had been hours and none of the notifications she received notified her of Jungkook's response.
He was ignoring her and it hurt so much that she thought it was possible for her eyes to water because of it. Not once had she expected to even be like this when it came to dating but now she was being one. It was pathetic to her that a simple argument made her so down. Maybe it wasn't solely because of the argument, but the last words he said to her.
"I'm done with you."
She couldn't stop thinking whether or not he was being serious when he said that. Did he dump her for real? Or was it only him spitting his own anger and did not actually dump her? She tried to take it positively but seeing him getting mad, which was quite rare even though they fought quite several times before, made her feel scared of what was about to come.
Usually it wouldn't be her who would made the first move to apologize even though it was her fault in the first place, but after hearing those words and seeing his angry face, she couldn't help but text him her apology as well as telling him that she loved him.
However, the zero reply she scored only made the matter worse. She had a hunch that even if she knocked on his door on that night, he wouldn't open it. Even if she approached him in his workplace, he would ignore her, she was sure of it a hundred percent.
A few guys asked her to dance with them but she gave no respond at all except when they held her hand. She pulled it away so quick even with the blank but sad face she had while keeping her eyes on the device.
Probably an hour or two later, she heard Jennie said that Namjoon had to go because he was just informed about a close family member of his being involved in an accident who was now in the hospital and that they needed to go as well, since all of them went to the club by his car. She sighed softly and shook her head, telling her friend that she would be staying in the club for a few hours.
"Okay, but don't drink too much, you hear me?"
Weird how Jennie was supposed to tell her not to drink at all so that she could go home safely, but here her friend was telling her to not drink too much. Deep down she was hoping that Jennie would call Jungkook to come.
Despite Jennie's warning earlier, she ordered drinks after drinks and eventually found herself seeing everything around her becoming blurry as each second passed. And all her mind could think of at that time was Jungkook, Jeon Jungkook and Kookie. No one or nothing else occupied her mind but her boyfriend.
She heard her name being called and saw someone on her side, a man that was for sure, talking to her softly. She felt his hand touching her cheek and pushing her hair to the back and she felt herself smiling even though it was hard to keep her eyes opened. Even the image of him was blurry but he felt so familiar. Tomorrow, she needed to thank Jennie for understanding what she needed even without her telling and managed to make Jungkook come.
"Why did you drink so much?" he asked her and Chaeyoung smiled again, placing her arm clumsily on the counter and tried to rest her head on it.
She pressed her cheek against her arm on the counter and faced him with a smile, her eyes blinking lazily. He was talking to her, but she could only catch on a few words and maybe one or two full sentences.
"Babe, look at you. You shouldn't drink so much, you know that." He slipped his hand to behind her neck and Chaeyoung hummed in respond, feeling the warmth radiated from his skin.
She was closing her eyes when she felt him closing the gap between their faces and she felt a soft peck on her cheek before he whispered in her ear. "I missed you so bad."
Chaeyoung smiled lazily and her hand rose from her lap, gripping on his shirt and she breathed, "I missed you too."
"I'm really sorry," he said to her and Chaeyoung smiled again as she lifted her head up from her arm and she felt her smile widened when both his hands cupped on her face.
"I'm so sorry, Kookie."
He hushed her and Chaeyoung felt a peck on her nose. "It wasn't your fault. It was all mine. I'm so sorry."
"I shouldn't have –"
And Chaeyoung had never felt so happy to get her words cut even before she could finish saying it when her mouth was dominated in a rushed but gentle kiss. The kiss was different than what she expected, yet it felt so damn familiar but at this point, none of that should matter because she and Jungkook had made up. That was more important.
*
Jungkook felt his heart was beating a little bit fast and he didn't know if it was because of the argument they had earlier that made him think so hard on how to start a conversation with her. Or it was because of the strange negative feeling he was having churning inside of him. It was bothering him that something bad had happened and his mind was only supplying him her name.
From the moment he started the engine to him walking towards the club, he couldn't stop biting the inner part of his lips. Just as he was entering the club, a familiar figure made his feet stop. And his feet weren't the only ones that stopped.
His heart did too upon seeing his girlfriend in someone else's arms, her lips on someone else's lips.
A few seconds were spent on staring at the two persons locking lips and he felt his hands curled into two tight fists as he stood frozen on his spot. The wild beating of his heart was back, except it was wilder and he felt his chest rose and fell hard before his feet began moving forward, bringing him towards the two people.
He knew he had just pushed people as he stormed his way, and he knew even the opposite gender became his victims but what he was sure of was that none of them fell and that was still okay. He heard the curses spat by those people he shoved away and if it wasn't because of how Chaeyoung was smiling at the damn man who was kissing her a few seconds ago, he would have entertained those people with his own style of cursing as well.
"Who the fuck do you think you are?!" he roared as soon as he neared both of them, his hand grabbing the man's collar, shoving him away from her.
The man looked at him with deeply furrowed brows as he quickly stood straight after stumbling a few steps and had his back hitting the counter.
"Why did you fucking touch her?" Jungkook asked as he moved towards the man, meeting the man's eyes with his own shooting fierce gaze before he pushed the man again harshly.
"Well who the fuck are you?!" The man responded and imitated him by shoving him backwards.
"Jungkook?" Chaeyoung said softly from behind and Jungkook didn't turn around as he fixed his gaze on the man with the deep voice.
"The girl that you kissed is my girlfriend, you son of a –" He stopped when he heard her giggling before she asked a question that made him confuse.
"Jungkook? Why are there two of you?"
Jungkook turned around to see her smiling and holding her head next. Fortunately there was someone else behind her who was willing to catch her when she suddenly fell backwards and no matter how mad he felt at that time and thought that maybe he should leave her there and leave the scene, he found himself pulling her into his arms to bring her out of the club.
He didn't know if it was a good idea at all but he didn't want to leave her there. When he felt the man grabbed his arm roughly and warned him not to take her away, he pushed the man quite harshly and pointed at the man's face and said, "Stay the fuck away."
On his way home with her on his side being unconscious, even with the constant mumble of his name coming out of her mouth, he couldn't erase the anger within him. He wasn't even fully cured from the hurt he felt when she told him that he was making it hard for her to breathe and now she was hanging out in the club, getting drunk and making out with some stranger.
If she was conscious she would be nagging at him for driving above the speed limit as he made his way pass several cars on the road. When they had arrived, Jungkook was about to send her to her house but something that she said before they started dating was brought to life in his mind, it kept ringing in his ears and he was determined to not be the idiot in a relationship anymore.
And that was why he brought her to his house to make it easier for him to carry out his plan.
*
The sunlight peeking through the blinds attacked her eyes as soon as she opened her eyelids. Chaeyoung stretched her long limb to her side, trying to take anything that could help her to cover her face and as soon as her fingers touched a pillow, she hummed softly and brought it to her face. The familiar scent on the pillow somehow made her insides feel some sort of delight and she further inhaled it as she pressed it more to her face.
Chaeyoung hugged the pillow and smiled as she thought of Jungkook, and her lips parted slightly just to let the sweet pet name to slide off her tongue. "Kookie..." she breathed softly as she shifted on the bed, still trying to avoid the sunlight.
She wondered where he was, since he wasn't on the bed. Probably in the kitchen eating his breakfast. Perhaps, he had just entered the bathroom to shower or he had done with it and she just needed for him to get out of it.
As she exhaled softly, trying to calm the slight dizziness she was feeling in her head, very small fragments of her memory were played in her mind and she once again let the smile to decorate her face as she recalled of having Jungkook coming to her and they both apologized to each other. She recalled him kissing her. It was different but she was glad that he did. At least, it assured her that he had forgiven her.
She curled on the bed a little more and heard light sounds of footsteps before they ceased, replaced with the sound of a sofa being sat on. Chaeyoung brought the pillow away from her face and lifted her head slightly to look at the direction of where the sound came from. And just like she had expected, Jungkook was sitting there. He looked like he had just showered, seeing how his hair looked slightly wet.
She sat up on the bed and smiled at him even though he wasn't looking up. Jungkook clasped both his hands together as he propped his elbows on his knees while facing the floor.
"Kookie," she called softly and bit her lower lip when she saw him taking a deep breath before leaning back. It became a habit to ask him if he had eaten his breakfast and usually, even though he did have his breakfast, his reply would be something like 'I'll still eat if you cook for me.' But today was unusual and a tiny bit of discomfort and uneasiness suddenly rest within her when she wasn't replied with anything.
She attempted again one more time, and she did get a response but it wasn't what she expected.
"Are all women the same?" Jungkook asked, still not looking at her.
That was such a random question, she thought. For all the days she had spent with him, he could be random at times but not as random as this day. "Huh?" was all she could respond to him with a slight tilt of her head.
Jungkook's face expression did not change when he lifted his face to look at her and asked the same question, "Are all women the same?"
Unable to hide her confusion, Chaeyoung asked back, "What do you mean?"
She swore she saw the little smirk he had on his face as he answered, "Do women nowadays like to play with men's heart?"
Before she could even form a response to that, he asked again, "Has it become a hobby for you guys to cheat on your men?"
Chaeyoung furrowed her brows deeply, frozen in her spot as she was taken aback at what he had just said. "What are you talking about?"
"Is he the reason why you feel suffocated when you're with me?"
None of what Jungkook had said registered well in her brain. What did he mean by cheating? Who was he that he was talking about? Did something happen last night that made him act this way? As far as she could recall, only good things happen after Jennie left her alone in the bar. Jungkook had come to her and they made up. So what was this all about, suddenly questioning her ridiculous and random questions right after she woke up?
"I don't understand," she muttered softly as her eyes downcast.
Chaeyoung heard Jungkook scoffed and that immediately lifted her eyes to settle on him.
"I guess I am stupid after all for worrying over you when I found out that you were all alone in the bar after our fight when the truth is, you were fine by your own. Oh, no. You weren't on your own. You were fine being left in the bar so you could drink as much as you could and make out with some stranger."
Confusion mixed with anger over the accusation he made caused a heavy frown to paint itself on her face as she shot him a glare. "What?!"
Jungkook bit his bottom lip and mirrored her angered expression as he fixated his own glare on her. She felt the tension thickened in milliseconds when Jungkook curled his fingers on the couch before he got up and looked down at her. "Stop pretending anymore, Chaeyoung! I fucking hate it when people pretend to be innocent when they're totally guilty."
She totally had no idea the origin of his accusation and that made her furious. "What are you talking about?! What stranger?!"
What did he mean by stranger? Wasn't it him whom had cradled her face and kissed her so gently, asking for forgiveness last night?
Jungkook laughed but there was absolutely no humor in his face as he pushed his tongue against his cheek the second his brief laughter stopped. "I don't know if I should believe you anymore that your boyfriend cheated on you. Who knows that the truth is the opposite? Am I right, Park Chaeyoung?"
Chaeyoung's eyes widened as she stared at him, mouth hanging open as her face expressed disbelief. She swallowed thickly and chewed on the inner part of her cheeks, trying so hard not to break down. By observing the look on Jungkook's face, how angered he was at the moment when he was never this angry before, and studying every sentence filled with accusations he spewed made her come to a conclusion that it wasn't him whom she had kissed last night.
She had thought that it was Jungkook who had locked lips with her while in the club, but everything that was happening right at that moment just somehow proved that she had kissed someone else. Some stranger had taken advantage on her and she didn't realize it. She should have listened to Jennie when she told her not to drink a lot. Why did she have to be stubborn and follow what her stupid heart wanted and ignored all the warnings her brain had probably given?
"Jungkook," she breathed and felt her lips trembled. Her head slowly shook as if it would change the fact that she had kissed someone else who wasn't her boyfriend. "I didn't – I thought it was you!"
She could see that he was gritting his teeth, his fists clenched and unclenched on his sides as he refused to look at her. "Is that how you take your mind off what's bothering you? By making out, with someone else?"
Chaeyoung stood up to her feet in an instant, the anger she felt for him earlier completely vanished, replaced with fear of losing. Her feet stepped forward and her hand tried to reach his, but he pulled it away before she could even touch him. "Jungkook, I swear I didn't know that –"
"Do you remember what you told me before?" Jungkook asked, crossing his arms over his chest and stared down at her. "You told me how stupid I was for letting myself to get dumped when I was the one who got cheated on."
Chaeyoung's eyes widened as her heart predicted what was going to happen next and she felt herself being unable to breathe the moment Jungkook opened his mouth to speak words strong enough to crush her heart into pieces, or perhaps, ashes.
"I learned from my mistake, thanks to you," he said with a tone that put so much distance between them even though they were only inches apart in front of each other. Jungkook's image became slightly blurry as the tears started welling up in her eyes. "You know yourself around this house very well, I suppose. So I'm sure you know your way out."
Words couldn't describe how painful it was when she heard him. It was probably even painful than having an enormous stone weighing on her heart. She wanted to believe that this was merely an awful nightmare and she hoped someone would pinch her, slap her, sprinkle water on her face just to wake her up. But then Jungkook stepped closer towards her and instead of proving to her that all those hurtful words he had just said to her were merely pranks, he just added more pain which left her completely speechless.
"Once you get out of here, don't even think of coming around. I don't want to see your face anymore."
