The Other Women

Sean stood there staring at Danny. His chest felt like an elephant was standing on it. It hurt him. He turned to his left and saw a women happily sitting across from him. This women had long, brown, wavy hair. She sat tall with her shoulders back wearing a black dress. She looked like she was in her thirties and no less.

"Sean, buddy you okay?" Danny reaches out for Sean and Sean moves away. His eyes were still on the lady.

"Who's this? Excuses me if I'm being rude." Sean says

"Sean, this is Justine." Danny smiles

"Nice to meet you, Sean. I've herd many great things about you and your sister." She smiles reaching out to shake his hand.

Sean looked at her and didn't shake her hand.

"Oh, my dad talks about me and my sister. Did he ever talk about my mother? You know, his wife of fifteen years." Sean steps back.

"Whoa, Sean come on bud. Don't do this, not now." Danny defends her.

Sean was quite for a few seconds when then he saw his boss walk by.

"What can I start you off with to drink then?" Sean pulls out his pen.

Justine looks at Daniel then back at Sean. She didn't know what to say.

"Wine, water, soda?" Sean goes on

"Sean, why don't you take off and we can talk. I need to talk to you."

"I'm sorry sir I'm afraid I can't do that for you. What would you like to drink?"

"Two waters." Justine says softly.

"Another waiter will be right back with that. Enjoy the rest of your night."

Sean walks away from the table. He had someone else take Danny's table and he continued working. His first instinct was to call his mother, but he didn't. He finished the work night as if Danny and Justine weren't even there.

Danny and Justine left around nine. Sean's shift got off at eleven.

Once Sean was done with his shift, he saw Danny leaning up against his car waiting. Sean sighed and walked up to Danny. He had no choice.

"So, where's Justine?" Sean says in a snarky tone.

"She's at home. I came back and waited. Listen Sean, I really want to talk to you and your sister." Danny says sincerely

"Is Justine your girlfriend? Where are you staying?"

Danny cleared his throat and nodded. "Yes, and we have a condo together."

Sean huffed and looked at Danny. "Jesus dad, you aren't even divorced yet. Is she why you and mom aren't together? What the hell!"

"I'm happy, Sean. I really want to talk to you and your sister. It's been two months, almost three."

"It's not our job to call you. You're the adult. And we aren't happy, you ruined our family."

"I understand, but ever since I cancelled the phone bill you must have gotten a new number."

"About that. You cancelled everything. My car insurance, my phone, and cleared our savings. You left mom alone, over flowed with bills and no money. You never cared to talk to Olivia and I about all this shit you caused. You leave and when I see you at work, with the girl you cheated on mom with, you want to talk? Are you sick? Do you not realize the pain you caused, over another women. We were suppose to be a family." Sean raises his voice and backs away from Danny.

"I'm so sorry. I've been afraid to call. I didn't know what your mother had told you. I was nervous. And I send your mother money each month. That should be enough for you three."

"She only said you left. Olivia and I figured it out for ourselves that you had an affair. Mom didn't want us to know. She didn't want this to effect our relationship with you. But you don't care, you never did." Sean walks up to his car door and opens it, moving Danny out of the way.

"Sean, don't go... Please. I need to speak to you and your sister. I need to explain myself." Danny tries to keep the door open.

Sean closes the car door and starts the car, leaving Danny in the dust.

12:30 am-

Sean bawled his eyes out the whole way home. He was so heartbroken. Sean never cried, but when he did it meant that he was really hurt.

Jessica was up when Sean was home. She was working in the living room trying to prepare things for court.

Sean bursted the door open and was shocked to see Jessica still up working.

Jessica turned to the door and smiled. Sean quickly turned away from Jessica.

"Hey honey. How was work? Have you eaten?" Jessica sits up and sets her things down.

Sean turned his back to Jessica and shook his head. "I'm good, I'm just tired." He says in a shaky voice.

Jessica sensed that something was wrong.

"Sean, honey what's wrong?" Jessica says softly. She walks up behind him and puts her hands on his shoulder.

Sean turns to Jessica with puffy, watery, red eyes.

Jessica quivered her lip. She tilted her head and saw her son crying. She opened her arms to him and he threw himself onto Jessica and held onto her.

Jessica rubbed his back and he sobbed on her shoulder. "Honey, what's going on?" Jessica says

Sean breaks away from the hug and tries to avoid the conversation, but he couldn't keep it from Jessica.

"I-I saw.... I saw dad."

Jessica was quite for a moment. She looked down at the ground and leaned her body up against the back on the couch.

"At The Steak House?" She says

Sean nods and covers his head.

"I saw her, mom..."

"You saw who?"

Sean walks besides Jessica and sniffles.

"The other women."

Jessica shook her head continuously.

"Don't be silly, there is no other women. Maybe it was just a friend."

"Mom, I know about the affair. I saw her tonight. He lives with her, her names-"

"That's enough, Sean!" Jessica snaps

Jessica's eyes started to water. She looked at Sean and gave him another hug.

"It's okay mom... She's ugly. I called her out."

"Sean, you better not have been rude. I didn't raise you and your sister to be rude!" Jessica points her finger.

"She deserves it. She's the whore that destroyed our family."

"Sean" Jessica says in a disappointed tone.

"She was like, 'your dad has told me so much about you and your sister.' I just asked did he tell you about his wife? She got all pissed. I don't care."

"I'm sorry you had to see that, Sean. I'm so sorry."

"I didn't mean to make you upset, I shouldn't have said anything." Sean says sincerely

"It's okay... Really, I'll be fine. What did he say to you?"

"Well I was waiting their table at first but I switched. He waited for me after my shift, alone. He wanted to talk to Olivia and I. He left his number in my car."

"Maybe you should call him? You can't avoid him forever."

"But I can't. I don't want too. I can't talk to him."

"Sean, you and your father were so close."

"That doesn't matter, he ruined that."

"There is a reason why I didn't tell you and your sister about the affair...

I was afraid too, I was embarrassed. I didn't want you to think I did something to make him not love me. I didn't want you to think he didn't love you, because he does. I didn't want it to effect your relationship with him. I just wanted to protect you two. Having a relationship with your father is so important. But you know Sean, I've come to realize that it's better to be happy for him then be upset. So good for you dad finding someone that makes him happy, because I wasn't able to make him happy."

"Mom, thank you. You're such an amazing mother, and it's dads loss. The only relationship that matters is my relationship with you and Olivia, because you guys care and you are all I have. Yea dad and I were close, but I can never forgive him or have that relationship again. I love you both, you're so strong mom."

Sean looks into Jessica's eyes and hugs her tight.
