Lied

"Oh god." Jessica clenches the paper in her hand and reads it over and over and over again.

Divorce divorce divorce.

Jessica wondered what took him so long. Why now? Why not before? It was a few weeks since Jessica had seriously thought about it, but she was back at point one, questioning everything.

They gave her thirty days to respond. On the paper it just states that Danny was filing for divorce. He gave a settlement for how much child support he would pay. There was nothing more and nothing less. Jessica was relieved that Danny was giving her custody and letting her keep the house. He didn't want or expect anything from her.

It was hard seeing the papers. Jessica signed that she agreed. She wrapped it in an envelope and put it in the mailbox. That was it. This was the beginning of the end.

When Jessica was at work she was on the phone with different divorce lawyers. She didn't think it would be 100% needed, but just in case. Jessica was on a tight budget. She wanted a good lawyer, but a less expensive one.

She was finally able to find one that she liked. Carol Spitz, she was a good friends with a lot of Jessica's co-workers and people raved about her.

Jessica had a meeting with her next week to discuss things and how everything will play out in court.

During Jessica's lunch break she decided to give Danny's office a call to find Olivia a physical therapist.

"Hello, this is Jane with Nova care. How may I help you today?" A lady says politely

"Hi Jane, it's me Jessica Huston."

"Oh Jessica, hello! It's so nice to hear from you. How are you? I can't wait to see you and the kids at the Christmas party this year."

The phone was silent and Jessica cleared her throat. "Heh, well I had a question to ask."

"Alright, anything!"

"Is doctor Grey still working in the office. Olivia had an accident and her doctor is recommending therapy. I'd like to fit her in for a few appointments."

"Yes he does. And I can fill her in for December fifteenth. A week from today. Is that alright with you? Four thirty?"

"Four thirty, a week from today. Got it, thank you Jane!"

"No problem. Have a good day."

That night Jessica tried to get home a bit earlier. Her mind was now set on the divorce and court. It was hard for Jessica to think about it again. She did think about it everyday, but some days were different from others.

When she got home the house was empty. She grew concerned when Olivia wasn't home because she said she would be. Jessica picked up her phone and tried to call her.

There was no answer.

Jessica then decided to call her mother.

"Hi Jessica, how are you?" Dorthy says happily

"Have you see or herd from Olivia? She said she'd be home but she isn't. I'm really getting worried."

"No I haven't herd from her In a while. Is everything okay?"

"You didn't come over a few nights ago? Monday night Olivia said you were here."

"No sweetie, I wasn't."

"You aren't sick?"

"I'm healthy as ever. Jessica do you need me to come over?"

"Shit! She lied to me, she isn't here? Something's been up with her."

"I'll call around."

"Thank you!"

Jessica kept attempting to call Olivia but still no answer.

Jessica waited at the house for a while. Around six a car pulled into the driveway.

Jessica looked out the window and saw Olivia walking onto the patio. The car left before Jessica could see who it was.

"Olivia!" Jessica says sternly

"Mom, you weren't suppose to be home until later." Olivia was shocked to see Jessica.

They walked inside and Jessica stared her down.

"What were you doing out driving with someone without my permission? And don't say grandma because I caught you in that lie."

Olivia sighs and sits down.

"I was with Layla. I should have asked but I know you would say no. You don't like my driving with her."

Jessica crosses her arms and rolls her eyes.

"You should not have lied and you should have told me that you were going to be out. I was worried sick!"

"I didn't know that you would be home early! You're never home anymore, Sean's at work, dad doesn't live here. It gets lonely!"

"Liv, I always tell you to go over grandmas. I'm sorry you're lonely, but I have to work to support you and your brother."

"I get that. It's just I want to have some fun. Layla is my cousin, she's not bad. I'm sorry for not asking and lying." Olivia puts her head down waiting for a response from Jessica.

Jessica walks up to her and gives Olivia a hug. Olivia bursts into tears and wraps her arms around Jessica.

"I just wish things were the way they used to be. I'm sorry for giving you a hard time and lying! I really am, I'll be good and stay home. I'm just so lonely when everyone's gone. Sometimes I want to be with other people. I love grandma, but still."

Jessica rubs her back and tries to calm her down.

"I'm sorry that you are lonely... I'll try to figure out my work schedule. You just have to bare with me.

Let's make a promise, no more lying, no more sneaking out, and no more loneliness."

"Okay" Olivia nods glancing at Jessica.

"Things will get better. They won't be the same, but they'll be better."

Later that night Olivia was asleep and Jessica was up doing work waiting for Sean.

Around ten he got home and was exhausted.

"Hey honey, how was work. You're home late." Jessica says standing up.

"Lots of work, but I'm making lots of bank." He exclaims

"Well that's good. You should really consider changing up your hours. Ten is a bit late don't you think?"

Sean walks over to the couch and falls into it closing his eyes.

"Yea, you're right. But I want to talk to you..."

Jessica looks at Sean and nods sitting next to him.

"What's up?"

"It's about dad. I think I'm going to call him."

Jessica was quite at first, then she took his hands. "Okay, sweetheart."

"Maybe Olivia and I could go see him."

Jessica nods and gives him a soft smile.

"Is that okay with you?"

"Of course. He's your father."

Jessica didn't mention the divorce papers to the kids, she didn't plan to. She felt it wouldn't make a difference either way. It was just the finalization of this whole mess.

"I was thinking of calling tomorrow. I hate to say this, but I miss him. He's my dad, I've done a lot of thinking, and I just need to talk to him."
