I Want You To Be Happy

September 15th-

"Daniel, I just told you to take the chicken out of the stove!" Jessica groans pulling out he burnt chicken.

"Jessica, you just told me to take out the trash. Make up your mind, I can only do one thing at a time!" Danny raises his voice slamming the door.

Sean and Olivia sit at the table and roll their eyes as they watch Jessica and Danny continuously argue.

"Can't you do anything right?" Jessica huffs

"What do you mean? I did what you asked!"

"No, I said can you take out the chicken then the trash. You must have selective hearing."

"With you, I have to!"

"Oh, fuck off da-"

"Stop! You two are so annoying! Can't you just get along already!" Olivia stands up and shoves her chair into the table and runs upstairs.

Jessica let's out a sigh and watches as her daughter runs up the stairs.

"Listen, it was a great idea to try to fix this family, but it's not working. I'm going to go to the gym." Sean looks at Jessica and Danny with disappointment and walks away.

Jessica tries not to cry, and throws out the chicken.

"Daniel, are you even happy with me anymore?"

"Jess, I am. We just need to get out of this angry funk."

"I feel like nothing's working." Jessica says softly

"I love you. I'm sorry."

"I don't want apologies, I want my husband." Jessica throws a towel on the table and goes upstairs to see how Olivia is.

When she got to her door, she overheard her talking on the phone.Jessica placed her ear on the door to listen.

I just hate this so much. I just want to move out or something. No one here is happy. I can tell my mom is slowly starting to lose it. I feel so bad for her.

Jessica felt as if a train had just hit her. Her marriage problems were not only effecting her, but her kids too. She felt so guilty. Everything was turning in the wrong direction and Jessica hated it. She just wants things to go back to normal.

The next day// Olivia's first Cross Country meet-

"Dad, I wish you could come!" Olivia pouts packing up her gym bag.

"I'm sorry sweetheart. I won't be able to get off work soon enough." Danny hugs Olivia.

"You're still coming, right mom?" Olivia looks at Jessica who was sipping her coffee.

"Yes, grandma will be there too."

"Good" Olivia nods sitting down and taking a bite of her toast.

A couple minutes later, Sean comes in dressed for school and wearing his headphones. He came down, and grabbed a piece of toast. Danny immediately stood up and yanked out his earbuds.

"You can do without the earbuds, k bud?" Danny says sternly.

Sean Danny a weird look. "Sorry, I'm just trying to relax before a test."

"Good morning, why don't you sit down and eat before school, it will relax your stomach." Jessica says softly, moving Sean away.

"I actually have to get to school early to take a morning test. So I've gotta go."

"What? Does that mean I have to go with you!" Olivia groans looking at the time.

"Yea..."

"Oh, okay..." Olivia says, discouraged.

"I can take you honey." Jessica says putting her hand on Olivia's shoulder.

"Really? Thanks!"

"Mhm.

Bye Sean, have a good day, and take your time on your test. Your meeting us at the pizza shop later, right?"

"Yea, I'll see you guys then. Good luck today, Liv."

"Thanks"

Olivia was quite in the car, she didn't say much.

"Livy..."

"Yea?" Olivia turns to Jessica and looks at her mother who was crying.

"Are you okay mom? Why are you crying?" Olivia says, concerned.

"I'm so sorry that you have to put up with your father and I arguing constantly. I don't like it either, trust me."

"Mom you can't live your life unhappy. I get that your marriage is important, and I'm only fourteen. My opinion means nothing, but this is just common sense. There comes a time when no matter how hard we want something or how hard we try, we just can't be happy the way things are and we need to make changes."

Her baby girl is only fourteen, and so mature. It finally hit Jessica, she wasn't happy. She may never be happy if she lets things go on the way they are. Her daughter had a point. A point that Jessica needed to get.

"Your opinion means everything..." Jessica sniffles taking Olivia's hand.

"I want you to be happy, you are my mom and mean the world to me. I can't see you sad."

"Thank you, Olivia. I'm so sorry, I really want us to just be a family and for things to go back to normal.I can't stop fighting for our family, so matter how hard it may be."

Olivia breaks away from Jessica and sighs.

As hard as it was for Olivia to think about it, she just felt like there family would be better off separated. Danny didn't treat Jessica like he used to, everyone knew it. Olivia knew too much, but didn't want to say anything to upset her mom.

Jessica was at the school parking lot. Olivia looked out and turned to Jessica.

"Goodbye" she says getting out of the car before crying in front of Jessica.

Later that day-

"Jessie, I can't wait to see Livy run, she's just so good! This is her first high school meet!" Dorthy cups her cheeks and smiles, looking out for Olivia.

Jessica's mind was occupied about what Olivia had said earlier. So much was on her mind lately, so much that she just wanted to forget about for a while.

"Jessie?" Dorthy says

"Yea, sorry!" Jessica shakes her head

"It's okay... but are you okay?"

"I'm good mom! It's a good day!"

"Alright then..." Dorthy raises her eyebrow and looks away.

"Look! They are lining up to start! I'm so proud of her!" Dorthy smiles cheering on Olivia.

Jessica and Dorthy wave from the stands and Olivia waves back.

"You can do it baby girl, break your PR!" Jessica says giving Olivia a thumbs up.

Runners, take your mark, *gun shot*

"There they go!" Dorthy smiles

"She's been working out all summer, I know she'll do great." Jessica says

The runners start going into the woods, so they couldn't see much.

"Why didn't Danny come? I haven't seen much of him lately." Dorthy says looking around.

"Works been busy for him... they just lost a doctor. But, luckily for me work has been slow."

10 minutes later-

The runners weren't back yet. Dorthy and Jessica moved to the finish line so they'd be able to see Olivia. It was a 5k run, which can take a while.

Suddenly an ambulance drives across the fields. Some of Olivia's team coaches ran behind it. Everyone was curious as to what was going on.

"Huh, I hope the runners are okay." Dorthy says

"Me too, I bet everything's fine."

The ambulance wasn't able to get through the narrow trail that the runners ran on.

Jessica and Dorthy moved a little closer to see what was going on.

Suddenly Jessica saw Olivia's coach carrying someone to the truck.

"Jessica, is that-"

"Oh my god, Olivia!" Jessica yells quickly running to the ambulance truck.
