Home Alone

January 10th-

It had been a while since Jessica was cleared. She slowly got back into the groove of things. She still was healing so it was harder for her to do things that used to be simple.

Sam was still staying at the house. No one was really ready for him to leave and he wasn't either. He knew Jessica had her moments and didn't feel comfortable leaving her when she may need him. He slowly moved back home. He spent most days at the farm but came back to Jessica's for the night.

As much as he wanted to stay and Jessica wanted him too, he couldn't. His carrier was at the farm, the commute from Jessica's to the farm was a lot. Usually if there was a problem at the farm he could just walk.

They didn't want to rush into anything too permanent. The couple just wanted their doors to be open to one another... for now.

It was a Saturday, the day of the Cavs game. Sean and Olivia left Danny's early to go back to Jessica's. The kids and Sam were driving up to Duluth for the game then coming home later in the night. Jessica was staying home. She wanted the kids to spend time with Sam and bond.

Jessica made lunch for everyone before the three of them got on the road.

"I missed your cooking." Sean says taking a bite of his sandwich

"Me too."

"Was my cooking not that good?" Sam says in a joking way.

"Well, you don't put the butter on the buns like I do." Jessica grins. She sits down then begins eating her sandwich.

Sam rolls his eyes then they all eat silently. Then, suddenly, Olivia gasps.

"What? Is something wrong?" Jessica says, startled.

"We forgot to tell you! Justine moved out! Dad and Justine aren't together." Olivia exclaims

Jessica widens her eyes "oh, wow. I didn't see that coming."

"You know what they say... once a cheater..."

"Always a cheater." Jessica finishes Sean's sentence then chuckles

"It's kinda nice not having her around but Dad is all upset and depressed."

"Karma." Jessica says to herself

Sam was silent during the conversation. He always got uncomfortable when they talked about Danny. He didn't like him. He never was able to put his finger on why he was so terrible to Jessica. In a way Sam was jealous of Danny, even though he wasn't a threat in Jessica's eyes.

Jessica could tell that he was uncomfortable so she quickly changed the conversation.

"So, ready for the game?" Jessica smiles

"Hell yeah! Ready to watch some ass whooping?" Sean says to Sam

"You know it!" Sam says hitting his hand.

"Excuse me, language?" Jessica says sternly

"Oh, yeah. Sorry." Sean chuckles

"It's okay mom, they'll be throwing out all kinds of fun words at the game!" Olivia exclaims

"Great..." She giggles

"Be safe and have fun!" Jessica exclaims as she kisses them all goodbye.

"We'll be back late. We might have dinner out there." Sam says

"I'll wait up for you." She whispers in his head as she hugs him goodbye.

Sam winks then walks out the door.

"Have fun!" Jessica waves as they leave the house.

The day went on and Jessica just did things around the house. She was always so bored when everyone was gone. Later in the day when they arrived Sam sent lots of pictures which made Jessica smile.

Jessica had an easy rest of the day. Since she didn't have anyone to eat dinner with she ordered takeout. She patiently waited for the delivery man to come. She sat in her office and just went through emails and papers to help cure her boredom. She came across lots of work emails. It had been almost two months since Jessica was last at work. She missed it in a way. She missed the rush of being in the court room and not always being bored. But this accident also brought Jessica and the kids closer together even though it was so tragic. She was able to be home more and they spent lots of time together... even with Sam which was just as great.

She knew that the time was going to come and she'd have to decide if she goes back to work or not. She was torn... in a way she was scared but anxious to get back.

As Jessica was deep in thought the doorbell rang. Jessica jumped up from her chair and ran to the door. When she opened it she was shocked to see Danny.

Her eyes widened and her heart raced. She glanced at his profile to see puffy red eyes.

"Danny, what are you doing here?" Jessica checks her watch

"... it's almost nine!" She adds

Danny let's himself in and Jessica's eyes stay on his.

"Jessica- I needed to come here.... I need to talk to you." He says

Jessica closes the door. She could tell Danny was truly upset.

"Why don't you come sit down in the kitchen and we can talk?"

As much as Jessica hated Danny and wanted to tell him to leave, she didn't. He was once her husband and they knew each other inside and out. Sometimes you just need to talk to people that know you... that's what Danny did.

Jessica pours him a glass of water and sits down across from him. Danny smiles when he sees that Jessica is doing better.

"Danny, why are you here?" Jessica says sternly

Danny sighs "I can't get you off my mind Jessica. Ever since your accident I keep having nightmares about losing you... it was so scary for me. When that all happened I just realized how much I still love you." Danny pauses for a moment after watching Jessica's facial expressions.

She shook her head continuously "Why are you saying these things? That you 'still love me'? I'm okay now... I'm fine. I appreciate everything you did when I was in the hospital with the kids and being there for me that one night but Danny... I have a feeling I know where this is going and I don't like it." She says

"I love you, Jessica. The way I acted towards you those last few months we were married was the worst thing I could ever do. I did lots of shitty things and I beat myself up for it everyday. You are my true love and you always will be! You have to be believe me when I say I'm sorry... I want to be with you, Jessica! I know apart of you wants to be with me. We were so happy. We were a happy family. I ruined that but I want another chance. Think about the kids.... how happy they'd be. How happy we'd be. Justine.... I don't know what I was thinking! I was in some kind of crisis!" Danny rambles on and Jessica listens.

Jessica's heart told her no, but her mind was playing games. Danny broke Jessica's heart too many times and put her through hell. What What he did was unforgivable. Then Jessica thought about what their family once used to be. When Danny pulled the kids card her brain was all confused.

"No! Danny! Are you crazy? Don't pull all this shit out of your ass! Just stop! Right now!" Jessica quickly stands up and Danny does the same.

"I would never-" Jessica says, but she was interrupted when Danny quickly wrapped his arms around Jessica...

Then... Danny presses his lips against Jessica's and they share a kiss.
