Best Friend

December 3rd-

Sean was still a bit upset after seeing Daniel. The piece of paper that had Danny's number on it taunted Sean. Sean was nervous to pick up the phone. He was curious as to what Danny had to say, but was still too angry with him.

Sean got off work early on Saturday and sat in his room catching up on some school work. He was in a way, distant from Jessica and Olivia. He didn't really talk to them much.

Jessica and Olivia were downstairs watching their favorite show, Grey's Anatomy on the couch. Olivia had her foot up and some ice on it from how much it had been bothering her.

"Why is Sean being so weird. Did something happen?" Olivia whispers during the commercial.

"He's just been tired from work, why?"

"Last night he was outside holding a piece of paper and his phone. He's just not himself."

"He was possibly just trying to get ahold of someone." Jessica giggles

Jessica stands up and gathers the cups that were on the coffee table.

"Do you want more ice? How is your leg feeling?"

"Yes please... Is there anyway I can have some of my pain medication?"

Jessica widened her eyes.

"Pain medication? No no no! Olivia, does it hurt that bad?"

"Yes! It hurts more now that I'm starting those exercises!" Olivia grunts

"I need to get you in with a physical therapist. I'll get you ice and Advil, no pain killers! I told you that when you went over your friends to not walk on your foot, you should've listened."

The next day//

The kids and Jessica were getting ready for church. After church they were going to see family and enjoy the rest of the day. Sean didn't have work, so Jessica wanted to do something special with the kids.

As they got ready to leave, Sean was in the office looking pacing around. He had a slip of paper and his phone in his hand.

Jessica slowly creeped into the room and watched Sean.

"Sean sweetie, are you alright?"

"Mhm, I'm just kinda out of it today. That's all." He hides the paper in his pocket and smiles.

Jessica walks towards him. She was concerned and knew he was hiding something.

"What's that piece of paper? That isn't the first time It's made an appearance." Jessica sits on a chair and crosses her legs and arms.

"It's dads number. He gave it to me. I've been questioning the idea of giving him a call." Sean stares at his phone then throws it down besides him.

"You should call him, Sean. He's your father, maybe you should listen to what he has to say."

"What about you? I feel like I'll be betraying you."

This is exactly what Jessica wanted to avoid. The kids not wanting to talk to a parent because of the other. She didn't want this, but it was happening.

"Don't worry about me, sweetheart. You aren't betraying me. He's your dad, I want you to talk to him!" Jessica exclaims reaching for Sean's hand.

"What if I say something to him? I'm just so angry."

"I know, but you can't stay angry. It isn't healthy. Your relationship with him is important to him!"

"Why do you keep saying that, how do you know? He hasn't called, he left us!"

"He told me everyday when you were younger and as you grew older. Your father devoted his time and life to you and your sister. He's going through a tough time, just call him Sean."

"Why did he ever do this? Why can't we just be a normal family again like when we were younger. I miss those days so much!" Sean starts to cry. Jessica holds him. He rests his head on her shoulder and sobs as Jessica comforts him.

"I miss him, mom. I hate to say it but I do. Dad and I were so close. He was like a best friend to me. I feel like I'll never get that back."

June 18th, 2002-

"Jessie, I'm scared to leave you all alone." Danny says as he packs up the car.

Jessica wobbles over to him and gives him a kiss. "I'm a month away from my due date. And my parents are here... Remember we live with them? *chuckles* You two need to go have fun. It's Father's Day! This is an important Father's Day." Jessica says breathlessly. Jessica starts to tear up and looks at Danny.

"Don't cry... Are you crying because I'm leaving?"

"I'm crying because this is Sean's last Father's Day with you until our little baby girl is born. I want it to be special, so make it special."

"I will, but don't be upset. I can't wait to have two kiddos to celebrate fathers day with." Danny chuckles putting his hands on the side of Jessica's stomach.

"Now you better get going! The fish will be out soon!" Jessica goes over to Sean who was strapped up into his car seat.

"Give mommy a kiss before you go, love!" Jessica giggles

"Kiss!" Sean pecks Jessica's lips and giggles

"Have fun with daddy, okay? It's Father's Day and Father's Day is a big day!"

"I love spending time with daddy!"

"I know you do. You guys are the most iconic duo!"

"That's right!" Sean giggles kicking his feet.

"I'll see you two later tonight. Catch some fishes!"

Danny's POV-

"Good catch buddy, but now what do we do?" Danny exclaims

"Put the fish back!"

Danny drops the fish back into the water then sits on the dock next to Sean.

"Today was a good day, huh?"

"Yes! Happy daddy's day!"

"Haha, thanks. You always make it special little guy. We are best friends."

"Forever?"

"Forever. And when your sister comes we will still be best friends. We can take her on these fishing trips too."

"Okay, but I love you daddy."

"I love you too, bud. Your an awesome kid." Danny puts his arm around Sean and smiles.

"We will always be friends. You're the best dad!"

"You're the best son! I love you so much!"

Later that night when Danny and Sean got home Sean went straight to bed after Jessica gave him a bath. Jessica stayed up that night with Danny watching TV.

"Did you have a good day?" Jessica smiles playing with Danny's hand.

"I did, I love spending time with him. He's just such a great kid. I have to say, we raise kids well."

"Heh, you think? Sean is a great little boy."

"We are so lucky to have him."

"We are." Jessica nods

"I'm scared about when he gets older. We have such a great bond now, what if that goes away and we lose that. My relationship with my kids means the world to me. I want to be the best dad and never hurt them and only protect and love them. And of course raise them right."

"Sean and our little girl are lucky to have a dad like you that cares so much." Jessica leans over and kisses Danny's cheek.

"When we first had Sean, I just fell in love. I didn't think I could love a baby so much. I just want to give him and our baby girl the best life and never leave their side. I don't ever want to mess up. If I lost my relationship with our children or with you, you mine as well kill me, because it would kill me inside."
