All Alone

Wednesday-

Jessica started work again. She had been gone for too long and needed to start working again. She missed it. She missed the energy of the court room, the tension, the fierceness, and the way she felt after winning a case.

On her first day back, she knew that she would be overwhelmed with paper work. Jessica was excited to finally start getting back into the work force, it would be good for her.

"Hey, Jessica! It's great to see you again. How's Olivia doing?" Neil walks into Jessica's office as she reviews new cases.

Jessica nods and looks up at Neil. "She's doing good." Jessica says softly

"That's good, I'm excited to finally be back in the court room with ya!" Neil walks over and sits down in a chair across Jessica's desk.

Jessica let's out a sigh and puts on a fake smile.

"I miss the court room." Jessica chuckles softly

"You don't seem like yourself. Is everything okay?" Neil looks into Jessica's eyes and sees the sadness.

"I'm just so tired." Jessica puts her head down and continues writing.

"I'm sorry, I'll let you continue working. I bet you have a lot to catch up on. If you need help
Let me know." Neil stands up and smiles

"I'm sorry Neil."

"Don't worry, I'll be in my office." Neil smiled and turns towards the door.

"Oh Neil, I have one question." Jessica stops him and stands up. She takes a deep breath and sighs.

"Yea, what is it?" Neil turns around

"Can you write me up a good list of divorce lawyers please?" It was so hard for Jessica to ask, but she did.

Neil didn't ask questions. He just nodded and gave Jessica a soft smile.

"No problem Jessica, I'll give you some good ones before I leave here today."

Jessica ended up being caught up at work late. Over the last few days, it was hard for Jessica to focus on the kids from how upset she had been. She tried her hardest, but it was hard to really be happy and cheer herself up. Jessica knew that she wasn't suppose to waste her tears, because Danny wouldn't have. But the pain was still there. The fact that her marriage was over broke her. She thought Danny loved her, because she really loved him.

Jessica called home to check in and make sure everything was okay.

"Hey mom, what's up?" Sean says

"Hey honey, sorry I'm running late. I have a lot of work to catch up on. Do you want me to pick something up on my way home for you two?"

"No, we are at aunt Ann's. I think we might spend the night. Is that okay?"

"Yes, that's fine... Sean, I'm so sorry."

"Stop apologizing mom, we understand."

Jessica said goodbye then he hung up. Jessica's heart hurt for her children. Life was going to change so much, she knew this wouldn't be the first long night at work.

It was around eight when Jessica was walking out of the building. She was wrapped up in her jacket. The sound of her heels rang through her office lobby. It was the only sound that Jessica could hear until she herd someone running towards her. She quickly turned around and held her purse close to her body.

"Hey, Jessica! I gathered that list for you." Neil runs up to Jessica and hands her the slip of paper. Jessica opens it and looks at all the names, shaking her head.

"Thank you... They are just all so expensive." Jessica looks away and sighs putting the piece of paper into her purse.

"I wanted to recommend the best... I know it's none of my business, but i hope everything is okay." Neil says sincerely

"It's all going to be okay, thank you." Jessica sniffles then fixes her hair.

"Are you heading home to the kids?" Neil asks walking alongside Jessica.

"It's just me tonight."

"Oh, well would you like to go to the bar with me? I really don't want to home home and clean, heh." Neil says awkwardly

Jessica thought to herself. Come on Jess, you've drank too much this week. You shouldn't go.

Maybe you should, you'll be all alone and it will make you feel worse. One more drink can't hurt.

"Sure" Jessica nods

12:53 am-

"You know what, he just left. He took his peanut dick and left. You know Neil, I'd love to see this whoreee." Jessica swings her glass around as she slurs her words.

Jessica was at the bar for four hours. She was so relaxed and just opened up to Neil. By this time she had one too many drinks and was silly drunk. But Jessica's pain was gone, it was like she had forgot about it all. Neil didn't have much to drink. They just talked all night. It felt good to talk to someone.

"I'm sorry... I'm honestly shocked." Neil says

"But are you shocked? I mean he was unhappy, at this point I'm not even shocked. Maybe it was my boobs. Do you think I have nice boobs." Jessica looks down at her chest then back at Neil.

"Jessica-"

"I guess not..." Jessica sighs and covers up her chest with her jacket.

"No, I mean you have nice boobs."

"Really? You mean that?" Jessica quivers her lip and rest her head on her hand.

Jessica then starts to cry, unexpectedly.

"Oh Jess, what's wrong?" Neil puts his hand on Jessica's hand.

"He just left me, all alone. And I feel like a horrible mother. Look at me, I silly drunk in a bar with a co-worker when I should be at home with my kids. But my kids are at my sisters, maybe because they can't handle me crying all the time. I have a problem Neil." Jessica throws her body onto Neil as she sobs in his arms.

"I think I'm going to drive you home." Neil helps stand Jessica up.

He walks her out to her car and drives her home.

Jessica could barley walk straight. Neil helped her inside and up to her room. The house was dark.

"Your room?"

"No, guest." Jessica points down the hall.

Neil carries Jessica to the guest room. He settles her into bed and tucks her in.

"Goodnight Jessica, I'll see you tomorrow."

Jessica grabs onto Neil's shirt, causing him to fall onto Jessica.

"Sorry!" Neil says trying to sit up.

"Get off my mother!" Sean yells from the doorway startling Jessica and Neil.

Neil stands up quickly and fixes his blazer.

"Sean, it was an accident." Neil says

"Bullshit, don't touch my mother. What did you do to her?" Sean walks over and sees his mother completely in her own world.

"Sean, I thought you were at Aunt Jane's?"
Jessica slurs pointing her finger.

"My god, are you drunk mom? You smell like boos." Sean backs away

"I'm fine, I'm fine." Jessica giggles

"We were worried sick about you. Olivia and I could barley sleep." Sean raises his voice

Jessica turns her head to the doorway and sees Olivia. Olivia's body was supported by the crutches. Tears filled her eyes.

"I didn't think you'd be home!" Jessica yells sitting up.

Neil tries to keep her in bed, but Sean pushes him away.

"You have to stop drinking, I'm worried. You've went through three bottles of wine this week. Look at you!"

Jessica helped herself up and got close to Sean. She put her finger in his face.

"You don't understand the PAIN I'm going through. You don't" Jessica emphasizes her words as she clenches her teeth.

Sean stares at her for a moment. "Fine, I don't understand. None of us do. Olivia and I are just fine. You are the only one effected by this. Yea, Olivia and I are just peachy. Our father left us turning you into a drunk. But really, it's fine. We don't understand." Sean looks at Jessica one last time then turns around.

"Get to bed Liv." Sean walks out the room and Olivia cries even more. Jessica had no emotion.

"I want my mom back!" Olivia yells then goes back to her room.

Once they were all gone Jessica looked at Neil with an irritated look.

She motioned him to leave and he did.

"Fuck!" Jessica yells as she falls to the ground.

"What did I do god, how was I not enough!"

The next morning-

Jessica was up all night getting sick. She pushed through her hang over so she could go to work. When she woke up the kids were in the kitchen on their phones eating cereal.

"Good morning." Jessica says softly holding her head.

There was no response. Jessica let out a sigh. She poured herself a cup of coffee then sat down with the kids. They gave her dirty looks then looked back down.

"Listen... I don't know what to say anymore."

Sean let out a snarky chuckle then shook his head.

Jessica banged on the table startling both of the kids. She finally got their attention.

Jessica clenched her fist and held it to her chest.

"I've messed up a lot these last few days. I know that and I'm sorry. I haven't been there for you. I married your father thinking I would never have to divorce him. I'm truly torn. He was the love of my life. Now I have to go through a divorce. I'm scared because he took everything. All of my money is gone. Now I have to pay for a lawyer so I can make sure he doesn't take away what means the most to me, you two. I haven't been dealing with my frustration and anger well at all. I just drank and I shouldn't have. I'm not a drunk, I'm not dependent on alcohol either. I should have never went out. I just needed to-

I don't know what I needed to do. I'm so deeply sorry. I never wanted to put you through this or you see me like this. You can be angry with me, I deserve it. I need to start getting myself together and snap back to life. I haven't been there for you two, we haven't talked about this. I want to, but you two never want to. I get it's hard to talk about, but I think we should. I just want you two to forgive me for last night. I wasn't in the right mind set. I didn't mean for you to be worried or scared. It will never happen again." Jessica looks at her children, desperately looking for a response.

Sean clears his throat then looked at the time.

"We should get to school, we are going to be late Olivia."

Sean stands up and grabs his book bag. He looks down at Olivia who was staring at Jessica.

"Olivia?" Sean says

She nods and helps herself up. Jessica looked at her.

"I'm so sorry."

Olivia nods and walks away with Sean.

Jessica sat at the table. There she was again, all alone.
