chapter 15- second dates
Before I begin, I am so so so sorry I haven't updated recently, I just haven't been into it and I honestly can't even blame family or school, I just haven't been into it. It's been almost 2 months, can you believe it?
Let's begin shall we?
As I sat in Marie's car while we drove home, I was reading through the texts that Preston sent me during work.
Yooo
I'm bored
Plz txt mee
I feel like I sound needy
Usually the bakery never has business no offence, where r u??
I laughed before replying,
chill out dude, I just got off, Hailey was teaching me different designs they use for decorations
I sent it off and Marie looked over expectantly.
"It was Preston." I said smiling in a 'duh' tone.
"Yeah I know that, what's he say?" she said.
"He was just bugging me about being bored and asking where I was."
"Clinginess isn't a good sign..." she trailed off.
"Ok, one, he's not my boyfriend, I don't think so, I don't know, that's another conversation," I said looking away,
"Secondly, he wasn't being clingy, he was just bored and he was right, the bakery doesn't usually have much business." I said.
"Alright here we are," she said pulling up to the side of my house.
"Ok bye Mar" I said giving her a small hug and then jumping out of the car.
"Bye!" she said, turning the car around and driving off to her house.
When I got inside, I could smell something delicious so I went into the kitchen to get dinner, and began to dig in.
After I finished I went into my room and saw that Preston had texted me back.
Hey Jennelle
I typed back annoyed.
Don't call me Jennelle, I get people to call me Jenny for a reason -_-
that's why it's ok if I do it, because I'm not 'people', I'm different, therefore I get an exception.
no you don't.
I looked away from my phone, to pull out my homework, realizing I had already finished it in the few hours I had before Hailey started bugging me about learning the designs.
*riiiiinnggg* *riiiiinnggg*
"What'd you want Preston?" I said.
"You didn't text back but it said you read it."
"You're starting to sound clingy." I said laughing a bit.
"That's the idea."
"Are you serious?" I asked uncrediously
"Nah, I just get really pissed off when somewhen reads it and doesn't reply." he said cracking up from his serious facade.
"Ok alright," I said mentally rolling my eyes, I coughed "clingy."
There was a slight silence, but it wasn't that awkward, just signalling that this part of our conversation had ended.
"Jenny, what time is it?" he asked from the other side.
"It's about 8:30 right now, why?" I asked.
"You wanna go for a ride?" he said.
"To where?" I asked.
"Anywhere you want to go." he said smiling.
"Second dates for the win."
!¡! !¡! !¡!
By the time he got to my house it was 8:45 and I looked at him a bit confused.
"Why'd you take so long, you're house is like 5 minutes away" I said.
"And you call me clingy," he whispered under his breath, causing me to glare at him and hit his shoulder. He flinched and rubbed his shoulder, mocking hurt, and answered, "I was trying to get around my parents, and for that I needed 10 minutes to bribe Penny." he said rolling his eyes.
"Awe, you bribed your little sister for me? I'm so touched" I said pretending to be touched, putting my hand over my heart. "Thanks Preston." I said smiling.
"No problemo." he said shaking his head before taking off the street.
"So where are we headed?"
"No idea, but I thought we could've gone to the lake, my friend is having a bonfire up there and it's going till late since it's Thursday and tomorrow the schools are closed" he said shrugging.
"That sounds awesome, the last time I was around a bonfire, I was with my cousins and I was like 6 or 7." I said smiling.
"Well then lucky you, because that's where we're headed."
!¡! !¡! !¡!
It took a while, but we got up to the lake in a decent amount of time, along with petty arguments and plenty of new inside jokes, but we got there.
"Ok, we're," he said, getting out of his side, coming around to mine, "here," he said while opening my door for me.
"You realize I can open a car door right, I'm not physically disabled, I'm perfectly able to open it myself."
"Yes, but I want to be a gentleman."
We started walking towards the group of people huddled around what was obviously a fire pit, holding blankets they shared with the person who sat beside them.
As we got there, I could see a few of the boys getting up t do a handshake thing with Preston as I took a seat on one of the logs with empty space. After Preston had finished his greetings, he looked around, noticing the blankets everyone wore and ran back to the car popping the trunk, grabbing the blanket we had previously used for our picnic date.
"Here you go," he said handing me one side of the blanket, cuddling up next to me.
"Preston, man, you didn't tell me you were going to show!" one of the boys, I remember as Josh, said to him. He had dark, curly hair with a casual outfit and he was sitting beside a girl I didn't recognize.
"Yeah, and now that you are here, I hadn't realized you were bringing company." one of the boys I knew as Alex, said smirking. He had darker skin but he was the British guy that moved while we were younger to this town. He had, and this came to me as quite a shock, Adrianna, one of Hailey's friends. She had been wearing tights and crop top, showing off her belly piercing.
"Oh, hey, I remember you, you work with Hailey don't you?" Adrianna said pointing to me.
"Yeah, that's me." I said with a smile.
"She said she hadn't been to a campfire in a while and I thought bringing my girl would be cool with you guys." he said, with his arm around me.
"Wow that was so casual, I barely realized that we aren't even dating yet." I said looking over at his face, causing him to blush.
"Well, that's ok, I need time to plan it out, but it will happen soon, trust me." he said with a stupid grin.
"Alright, whatever works for you dude." I said with a laugh.
Suddenly, (A.N. xD) I heard the sound of a car pulling up, and along with that hearing corny music blasting from their radios, making me sigh. I recognized that white Lexus anywhere, belonging solely to non other than Poppy Green.
"Hello everybody!" she said with an obviously fake smile and fake cheerfulness.
"Hello Poppy." I replied back making her smile immediately turn sour.
"What the hell is she doing here?!" she exclaimed in fury.
"Well, I'm here with Preston, so, hi?" I said like it was obvious.
"Scratch that b**ch I'm here with him, so you can forget that thought." she said kissing her teeth.
"Ok, he made it clear that he's here with me, so I can't believe what you say over what he says." I say faking remorse.
"Well, then he can tell you, he originally planned to be here with me!" she said glaring at him.
Alex and Josh dived in to his aid. "I specifically remember him going on and on about how he wanted to get Jenny here, not you." Alex said idly.
"And please, get the message, he's not interested, no matter your obsession with him!" Josh said pleadingly.
"That's what you think. When he's done with this girl, he'll come running right back to me, where he belongs." she said stomping off, making the tires of her car screech as she got in and drove away.
"Jenny," Preston said quietly, only just catching my attention, while everyone else divulged on what had just happened, "I know we aren't even dating yet, but I don't want us ever to be over, no matter what she says. I really like you and I don't want what she says to keep me away from you." he whispered, trying not to let the others hear.
"As long as you and sure you keep your cool, I can handle what she says, and I know most high school relationships don't normally work out, but I don't plan on losing you any time soon." I said with a smile, kissing him on his cheek.
"Good." he said, jumping back into a long conversation with his friends and I had been having, about anything and everything in general.
!¡! !¡! !¡!
I couldn't remember what time Preston had dropped me home, but I did remember the argument I had with my mom as she saw me going into my room.
"Jenny, where the hell were you? I was so worried" she said running up and slightly hugging me.
"Mom, it was all good, I was just out with a few friends, that's all." I said squirming in her grip.
"Honey, I don't think you realize but it is past midnight." she said with a straight face.
"I know ma, I really just want to go upstairs, take a shower and go to sleep." I said, but she grabbed my wrist right away.
"No, you're not going anywhere, we have to discuss this," she said sitting me down in the kitchen.
"What?" I asked trying to get it over with.
"I'm not sure if it's Preston that made you go to this, but if it is, you really shouldn't be hanging around him if he's going to be such a bad influence." she said shaking her head.
"Mom, relax, it's not like we have school tomorrow and it's ok, we just wanted to hang out with our friends. He's not a bad influence. I make my own decisions mom." I said getting up. My mom just shook her head and let me go.
I didn't get much sleep that night.
You that feeling when you are extremely tired, but it's as if your brain just has a caffeine rush and you're suddenly wide awake?
That was me.
I tossed and turned for what seemed like forever thinking about the conversation with my mom, about how it's possible that Preston is becoming a bad influence. And it's weird, because Preston, I find, hasn't changed me. I don't feel a difference, but then again it could just be the fact that I had just came back from our second date.
