Marinette Dupain-Cheng was your average intern; she had just finished her first year of college and was interning at a local police department. One day, she dreamed of being the best detective Paris had ever seen!

But unfortunately, her current job was fetching coffee for the real detectives.

"Ugh, too bitter," Detective Lê Chiến Kim complained, passing his cup of coffee haphazardly back to his assistant.

"Sorry sir," Marinette apologized profusely, scrambling to receive the coffee in a manner that wouldn't involve spilling hot liquid all over her white sweater. "More cream?"

"Please," Detective Kim smiled. "I need something to keep me awake while I look over this case."

Marinette nodded, before turning around and heading towards the kitchen, carefully cradling the mug between her hands.

She passed by a few officers, one of which was staring at her. He was quite handsome, his ears pierced and glowing blue eyes capturing her soul. She tried to read his name tag-

CRASH!

Marinette knocked into somebody in front of her, spilling the coffee all over the front of her shirt as well as her unfortunate victim.

"I'm so so sorry," Marinette apologized, the female officer merely offering a laugh.

"It's alright," the reddish-brown haired detective laugh. "I'm guessing you're new around here."

"Is it that obvious?" Marinette moaned, wiping the liquid off her chest.

"A little," the woman smirked, grabbing a handful of napkins and handing some of them over to Marinette. "My name is Alya Cesaire. You?"

"Marinette Dupain-Cheng," she smiled back, relieved that Alya wasn't as strict or intimidating as Detective Kim.

Marinette cautiously looked around, fearing her newfound crush in the department hadn't seen what had occurred. Given that he was smiling at the situation, she knew he had. Marinette sighed.

"Looks like you're gonna need a new shirt," Alya observed, a big wet coffee colored stain on the front of Marinette's white sweater. "I've got an extra one in my locker. Come on."

Alya turned around, and Marinette followed. Soft chuckles were heard amongst the officers and detectives.

They finally arrived at the lockers and Alya reached into hers and pulled out a simple grey one.

"Sorry, it's my gym shirt," Alya chuckled.

"Anything will do. Thank you," Marinette laughed.

Before Marinette turned around to go and change somewhere, Alya grabbed her shoulder. "I couldn't help see you stare at Detective Couffaine over there."

"Oh," Marinette blushed. "Yeah. It's uh, it's whatever."

"Well you better go change and answer your next call. Good luck out there," Alya crossed her arms and gave a nod.

"Thanks again for your help," Marinette smiled.

"Anytime. I have sympathy for the newbies," Alya winked.

Marinette exited the restroom, a clean (well, sort of) shirt on and her best attitude. She was gonna get Detective Kim that coffee!

She prepared his brew, added some cream and sugar, and got on her merry way.

"Here's your coffee sir," Marinette grinned, handing it to Detective Kim.

"Took you long enough," he grumbled, grabbing the coffee hastily. He took a sip, before sitting it down next to his files. "Mmmm much better. Great job rookie."

"Thanks sir," Marinette beamed proudly.

Kim ruffled through the papers on his desk, and grabbed his head in frustration.

"What's that?" Marinette asked curiously, trying to peek at the case information.

"Nothing an intern should see," he snapped back. He waved his hand towards the opposite side of the room. "Go on, go color code my files in the drawer over there."

Marinette sighed, swiping a pack of colored note tabs off the desk. She organized them by color, a grueling and long task.

A knock was heard at Detective Kim's door.

"Come in," he yelled, his eyes scanning the papers.

"It's about the club case," a detective said urgently.

Detective Kim raised his eyebrows. "And?"

They held up a plastic bag that looked like it had nothing in it. However upon further instruction, there was a strand of blonde hair in it.

"You're telling me that's all they found, a damn strand of hair," Detective Kim grumbled. "We have a corpse with a slit throat and multiple stab wounds and the only evidence we have is hair?!"

"Unfortunately," the detective mumbled. "We did a thorough sweep of the crime scene and asked multiple people there but no one saw anything."

"That's bullshit!" Kim screamed, slamming his fist on the desk. "We've been trying to locate this mysterious killer for years, springing up and killing ex-convicts. I mean I don't blame 'em but damn, the law is the law and they're still murderers!"

Marinette was very interested in this story. A killer who could somehow escape the detection of professional criminal investigators? It made her mind spin.

"Don't worry sir. We're going to perform DNA analysis on this strand of hair and hopefully ID the killer. They won't be hidden for long," the detective smirked.

"I damn hope so," Kim grumbled, leaning back in his chair. "I need another coffee. Intern, go."

Marinette stood up, brushing off her pants and heading out the door behind the detective. Her eyes glanced at the blonde strand of hair in the bag. Who are you, mysterious killer? And how are you so masterful at your craft?

Curiosity was driving her mad. If only she could just sneak a peek at the files...

She checked the clock as she sit boringly at the break room table. 9:51 pm. Almost time to leave. It was an interesting day to say the least. Too bad she couldn't do anything actually worthwhile or interesting.

The cute detective that she noticed earlier, Detective Couffaine, surprisingly walked into the room. Marinette immediately perked up, trying to act busy on her phone.

"Hey there," he smiled, "You didn't sustain any burns from that coffee earlier did you?"

"Oh, n-no," Marinette blushed embarrassingly. "Just damage to my reputation that's all."

"I gotta say you were very popular conversation today," Detective Couffaine laughed, pulling up a chair and sitting across from Marinette.

"Great," she mumbled, head dropping. "Not only does Detective Couffaine find her a joke, but the entire department."

"Please, Marinette. Call me Luka."

Marinette felt her face heat up. No, no, no, you are NOT developing a crush on the detective who's name happens to be Luka.

"Oh, alright," she laughed awkwardly. She pulled out her phone to check the time. "I better, uh, go check with Detective Kim before I leave."

"See you around, Marinette," Luka winked.

Marinette internally screamed. His wink was adorable. He was adorable. Get it together. You can not develop a crush for your coworker. And cheesy. The intern always falls in loves with the coworker in those romance novels.

She quickly left the room, before she could make a fool out of herself. She tended to do that in front of people she had crushes on.

She headed towards Detective Kim's office. Just before she knocked at his door, a loud explosion was heard coming from within the room. It shook the entire floor, and the sound nearly made Marinette deaf.

She screamed, covering her head. People were yelling in confusion, the lights were flickering. Chaos broke loose.

"Detective Kim!" Marinette screamed, realizing her superior was still in his office. She opened the door and a thick cloud of dust and debris seeped into her lungs.

She coughed violently, and her eyes were burning. But most of all, she feared for Detective Kim's safety. "Detective Kim! Sir!" Marinette screamed, trying to peel open her eyes.

She managed to open her eyes a bit, and through the cloud of dust and hanging wires from the ceiling, she could make out a large light. No, that was definitely the outside made viewable via a gaping hole in the wall.

Marinette coughed, some of the dust managing to clear away. Still, she was unable to view Detective Kim anywhere.

"Ugh," Detective Kim's voice was heard, pained but clear.

Marinette felt a tiny glimmer of hope. He was alive. Whatever attack this was, he survived it. Now she just had to find him and pull him to safety.

She moved further into the office, and finally could see the outline of Detective Kim. He was laying on the floor over a mess of papers and chunks of plaster.

However, he wasn't the only figure in the room. Standing over him, a tall man was standing there, as if he was the Grim Reaper. She couldn't make out any facial details, but he was there all right.

"It's you. You're the killer!" Detective Kim screamed, viewing the figure in horror. "The one we've been trying to track-"

In an instant, the attacker grabbed Kim by his neck and hoisted him up off the ground. Marinette reacted in complete horror. She tried to scream, but choked on the dust. She took one step forward, before a chunk of ceiling crashed onto her, knocking her unconscious.

Detective Kim's eyes bulged as he struggled to breathe under the firm grip of his attacker. He looked directly into the eyes of the killer he'd spent years trying to bring to justice.

Adrien Agreste.

Detective Kim gurgled, trying to make out any words. Adrien just squinted his dark green eyes at the dying man. "You won't be hunting me or my family any longer."

Then, with a simple turn of the wrist, he snapped the mans neck. Detective Kim went limp, his eyes rolling to the back of his head.

Adrien tossed his lifeless body to the side, before pulling out a tiny explosive device. He pressed the button and sat it down before escaping back out through the hole in the wall.

Luka coughed, heading into the destroyed office. He gasped, seeing Marinette unconscious and pinned underneath a pile of debris.

He pushed the debris off of her and hoisted her up over his shoulder. He glanced at the horror in the room and saw Detective Kim's dead body laying on the ground. However, a ticking noise interrupted his thoughts.

He knew what that meant.

"EVERYONE HEAD FOR COVER!" Luka screamed, practically running out of the room with Marinette's body flung over his shoulder.

As soon as Luka dove under the desk, a loud boom shook the building once again. Sirens were heard blaring outside, and people were in complete shock.

It was a disaster. A feat never experienced in the city before.

Outside, Adrien breathed a sigh of relief, jumping into a black SUV Lila was driving.

"Well done, Adrien," Lila smirked. "Those cops will have to start from the beginning if they ever wanna find us."

She sped off down the street, passing ambulances on the way.

"No one saw you, right," her voice got serious and deadly. "No witnesses, remember?"

"The only one that saw my face is dead," Adrien replied bluntly.

Although, he could've swore he thought he saw the figure of a girl standing in the room for a split second.

Must've been the smoke.
