(5) It's Complicated
Had my break up speech ready
Then you kissed my face
It's the way you persuade me
You are dirty, disgusting
But I can't enough of your loving
Present
I had a sour mood because of the conversation I had with my ex-husband, Aman, earlier in the morning. In the end, I decided to ask any friend of mine a favour and help me shift my stuff to Aman's grandmother's place. I head to work in the morning instead of meeting Aman at 12.
I loved my job. It enabled me to travel and interact with people a lot, which were two of my favorite things to do. I had just completed my degree for Master's in Business Administration when Aman and I had gotten married. Yes, the job had uneven hours and a little stress, but when you do something you love, you do it with a passion and not like it's work. The brand was soon going to launch a new product in the market and for it, the publicity was in full swing. Various events were being held all over the country just to promote the new product.
Which also meant, I had to work long hours now. I had also been M.I.A from work due to my divorce, so I had to put in even more hours than others. A late night drink, seemed like the only solution to the chaos that my life had become.
I decided to do what everyone else told me to do. Distract myself, immerse myself in my work and that was exactly what I was doing. But it was difficult to be happy on the outside when inside, I was just dull.
"Hey," Anidhi said breaking my thoughts. "Is Raven coming to any of the events in Delhi?" Raven was an upcoming model. He was also chosen to be a brand ambassador for the men's products in our brand. He was actually just a regular Instagram user, with a huge girl following but a few advertisements later, he became a household name. Now, he was promoting our brand which was a huge breakthrough in his career. He also happened to become a friend.
"Yeah, he called me, he is actually in town. Needs to be here for a meeting," I said remembering that he was going to be in the office soon. "Call Kartik and tell him that Raven will be here by 2."
Anidhi nodded and went off to work. As I was sitting and doing all the paperwork, a voice completely startled me.
"Why so dull?" someone chirped excitedly and as I looked up, it was Kartik. "Do you know you look really unattractive like this?"
"I don't really care anymore," I said and went back to working on my computer.
"Mira?"
"Yes?"
"How did you come to decide that you need to leave Aman?" He asked. "I mean, yeah, being upset is a reason but divorce is a huge thing."
"There were a lot of little things, you know? That just became really big. In the end I was miserable all the time and so was he." I replied. I was in no mood to go into details. I wonder what Kartik will think if I tell him I am going to live with Aman again? This is one twisted divorce.
"I know this isn't the time to ask but.......you are young right now, What are you? Twenty five?"
"Yes." I replied with a smile.
"It's still early for you, you know. You don't have to give up on relationships. If not him, it will work out with someone else." He smiled. "So don't be so dull all the time. Life can do some unexpected things but the trick is, not to give up. There is always something to look forward to. If you can't think of anything then there is tomorrow to look forward to."
"Quite philosophical today, aren't we?" I replied.
He left soon and as day proceeded it was soon seven. Finally, I was done for today. Raven had come and we decided to take him with us for drinks.
As I passed by the exit with him, he smiled mischievously. "I think Kartik likes you."
"Okay."
He frowned. "Hey, whats the matter with you?"
"Nothing," I said hoping he wouldn't pressure me to tell him more.
"Kartik told me he likes your perfume."
"Shut up, Raven."
"Alright, I like it."
As we got inside the car, which Anidhi was driving, I remembered I didn't tell anyone to get my things.
Aman's entire family is going to be so happy that he got rid of someone as irresponsible as me. I just didn't care. Wasn't I upset enough already and than he bashed all over my mood? Why did I even call him in the morning! I shouldn't have.
"Hey, why are you so lost today?" Raven pestered.
I chose to ignore his question. "I have done your manager's work for you. All your bookings are done. You have to leave for Mumbai next week."
"Damn..." his face fell as I handed him his itinerary. "You are fast. Didn't I text you like yesterday?"
"Is that a bad thing?" I was confused. I made his load easier, I thought.
"No, it's good," he said. We had reached the hotel he was staying in. We walked towards the restro-bar of the hotel. Anidhi ordered Cosmopolitans for everyone. A mixture of Vodka and Cranberry juice was just what I needed. "But that means I don't have any reason to text you anymore."
Before I could reply, Anidhi barged in the conversation. She was expecting a baby but via surrogate. Some complications occurred and her husband and she decided to go for surrogacy. Right now her surrogate was in the last month and Anidhi was really excited and nervous. "Do you guys mind if Ashish joins us?"
Ashish was her husband. I had only met him through office events and parties. He was a jovial person and incredibly committed to Anidhi. You could just tell, the way they looked at each other. He was also pretty decent because he consistently sent triple-layered chocolate cake with Oreo cookies as toppings after my divorce.
"Sure," Raven replied, "And maybe Kartik would want to join us too. Seeing he has a thing for miss newly single right here."
I rolled my eyes. He isn't going to stop, is he? "Can we concentrate on a new baby coming to town?"
My phone beeped. It was a text message from Aman.
It is common courtesy to inform your flat-mate about your whereabouts. Where are you?
P.S- Your mother dropped off all your stuff.
Aman and I had been together for seven years. But like Anidhi and Ashish, children weren't in the cards for us. We both love kids but it was just something we saw, way ahead in the future. I was still concentrating on my career and so was he. We just wanted to enjoy some time together as a married couple before we took on those responsibilities.

Afternoon sunlight filled the room and struck my face. The warmth caused me to open my eyes. It was a Sunday and I was enjoying sleeping in late. Not that I had a habit of waking up late but something had gone on last night (and for the last five nights, actually. Can't tell how many times Kartik scolded me for coming to work, late.) which caused me to wake up late.
"Baby..." Aman's voice came from behind me. "Are you awake?"
"Just a minute more.." I murmured.
"It's 1, Mira. We have to go to lunch at your mother's at 3. Time to wake up."
"Just a minute, honey!"
"Mira." Suddenly his voice became all serious causing me to get up. "Listen?"
"Yeah?" I said getting up and sitting up on the bed while stretching my arms. My entire body was completely soar. "What is it?"
"We haven't used any, you know, precaution for the past five days." He said and looked at me with his small eyes all big.
Logic hit me and I got what he meant. Now, I was worried. "Really Aman? This is what you choose to wake me up with?"
"I was just wondering. I was reading the newspaper and this article came up..." he wandered off. "Anyway, I am sure I didn't do anything. There is nothing to worry about."
"If there is nothing to worry about then why did you mention it at all?" I asked and frowned, crossing my arms.
"Baby, told you, I was just thinking.."
"Well, now I am worried! We are so not ready for children, Aman!"
"Mira, I told you, there is nothing to worry about!"
"This is like, your fault."
"My fault?" Now he was frowning at me.
"Umm..yeah, 75 percent!"
He gave me a small smile. "How is that? I remember you asking for it as much as I wanted it." That line caused me to go completely red. But I moved on.
"Hey mister, you own the main weapon!"
He laughed. "Yes, but my target willingly came in front of me," he said with a wink. I laughed and completely forgot what I was worried about. "Speaking on which, what's my target's mood right now?"
"The target is so not..." before I could complete my sentence he kissed me.
And ten minutes later, we continued last night from where we left.

"Are you going to go ding-dong on me again and again?" Raven said breaking my thoughts.
"Uh.. no..sorry. Can we order more of this?" I pointed at my empty glass. I so need to get drunk tonight. It wasn't going to be easy facing my ex with all memories at the frontier of my thoughts. How can you just delete everything? How much easier life would be.
Will go to stay with him, when I am drunk enough to be able to.
