Twenty-Five

"You have to get used to these things, Yoonie." Taehyung's words made things worse.

Yoongi didn't understand how to live like a vampire. Hiding his fangs was one thing, drinking blood was another, but all of these special abilities just make Yoongi feel like some kind of superhero or something. The speed, the constant listening in on things accidentally, always feeling like someone is near. It was getting to his head too quickly.

Sudden changes had always been hard for Yoongi to deal with, like when he had lost his best friend and somehow managed to meet Namjoon and Seokjin instead when they moved to his school. And even meeting Hoseok— it was all by luck and Yoongi took months, nearly a year to open up to his friends. They were new to him and he was frightened. Changes are scary to Yoongi.

"I don't understand, Tae."

He and Taehyung were at the meadow that they had sometimes gone to, except this time the weather was colder. The cold wind didn't bother Yoongi, but it still was annoying to have his skin so cold. He wore a jacket. It had always confused him as to why Taehyung never wore sleeves unless it was for fashion, but he never wore any warm clothes.

"You don't understand what?" Taehyung asked. They were lying down in the middle of the meadow again, staring up at the sun. Oddly enough, the sun only tingled Yoongi's skin, just like Taehyung had told him once before, when they first started watching sunsets.

They were chilling in the meadow, watching the sunset again. Taehyung wanted to bring Yoongi here to run, but they had yet to do so. Yoongi wanted to watch the sun first.

"I haven't seen a human yet," Yoongi told Taehyung. "And I haven't been near one." He turned onto his side, propping his head up and looking at Taehyung, who got in the same position as well. "That day we first met. When Jimin came up to me at that party..."

Taehyung frowned at the mention of that day. He laid his head on the grass, looking back up at Yoongi with those dark, sorry eyes.

Yoongi stretched forward, resting his hand on Taehyung's soft cheek. "If that hadn't happened, would you have ever talked to me?" he asked. "What if we hadn't met?"

"You wouldn't be stuck here with me," Taehyung let out. He closed his eyes and plucked Yoongi's hand off of his cheek.

"Taehyung," Yoongi muttered as the vampire turned onto his back again, avoiding eye contact. "Hey, I'm not stuck. I chose to kiss you. You said so yourself, you told me the truth and I didn't believe you." He scooted forward and nuzzled his body into the side of Taehyung's. He slid his arm around Taehyung and held onto him. "I'm not stuck. I'd rather be with you for the rest of time instead of having you and my friends ripped away from me. Don't you think it's better this way?"

"But it isn't," Taehyung sighed, the rise of his chest making Yoongi frown. "And I did tell you the truth, but not all of it, okay?" He turned back to Yoongi, eyes set on his.

"But you will tell me."

Taehyung nodded. "When all is settled, I'll tell you," he said. "Soon. For now, the sun is almost set and we still haven't done what we came here to do." He raised from the ground, brushing his shirt and pants off. Yoongi followed him, standing from the hard ground and getting rid of the grass on himself.

"Do I just run?" he asked.

The other vampire nodded. "You'll figure it out." He suddenly ran off, leaving Yoongi all alone in the middle of the open grass.

Yoongi huffed and gathered his thoughts, throwing them to the side. He came here to run and be free. That's what he'll do.

He started slow, unsure of himself as he began go run. But then it kicked in. The speed kicked in so quickly that it made Yoongi halt in surprise, and he was suddenly on the other side of the meadow. Shivers ran down his body and he smiled to himself, eyes searching for Taehyung. As soon as he saw him, he began to run again, this time not hesitating.

He let the speed kick in again. His hair was pushed back and his body felt light. The grass he was hitting was not affecting him. The moon was shining down, the sky becoming darker and darker as Yoongi ran and he could've run for forever, but he caught up to Taehyung and it became more fun as they were together.

Taehyung grinned at him, holding out his hand and tugging Yoongi in closer to him. They ran like that for a while, hand in hand. It was becoming dark, no lights around them, but Yoongi could still see like it was nothing, still running until they eventually gave in.

They quit, tumbling into the middle of the meadow. It was so fulfilling.

"You know," Taehyung began. He smiled up at the moon and then picked up some dead grass, holding it in the air to examine it. "This meadow is my favorite place to come to." He held the grass up to his chest before he peeked at Yoongi, a childish grin on his face. "Did you know that I own it?" he asked.

Yoongi's eyes widened. "Huh," he nodded. "Good to know we aren't trespassing."

"Yeah," Taehyung chuckled. "It was actually my parent's land," he told Yoongi. The mention of his parents caught Yoongi's attention. He leaned on his elbow again, paying attention to Taehyung. "Our house was on this land when I was a human. It was a cute little wooden house, but it's been so many years I barely remember it." The reminiscing look on Taehyung's face said otherwise, but Yoongi didn't mention it.

"So, your parents left the land to you?"

"Yeah." Taehyung nodded. "It's been so long and nothing has been built here. I didn't plan on doing anything with it. I don't know what I would even build, anyways."

Yoongi tilted his head. "You could've built a home here," he suggested. "I mean, only if you wanted. I know you already have a house close by, but..."

"I could," Taehyung said. He looked back up at Yoongi and chewed at his lip, his cheeks puffed out as he did so. "Yoongi, you know that your parents will question you, right? And you have to learn how to be natural around humans. We have to teach you how. Leave the blood up to us. We have plenty for you to feed. We always do, especially Jungkook."

"Um..." Yoongi cleared his throat. "You do know that me and Jungkook are just friends, right? You aren't still angry?"

Taehyung sighed. "I did you wrong, honestly. I kissed some guy just to keep you away from me and it clearly didn't work. So no, I'm not angry and I shouldn't have been."

"Why keep me away?"

"Because I knew this would happen if I kept you near," Taehyung said. "That's how you are. That's how you've always been."

Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows. "Wait, what does that mean—"

"Wait," Taehyung cut him off.

Only then did Yoongi stop and watch as Taehyung raised up, concern on his face. He paid attention as the silence of the night turned into footsteps. Footsteps were coming near and Yoongi could already tell it wasn't good. He could feel the anxiety rising in him.

But it was Hoseok.

Hoseok showed up from the path of the meadow and Yoongi was suddenly worried that the others would show up as well. They would all show up and hell would break loose. But, Hoseok seemed to be alone. He walked up to Taehyung and Yoongi with a slightly disappointed look on his face.

"Yoongi."

Yoongi sat still on the grass and stared down at his lap. Taehyung stood up next to him, catching Yoongi's eye. "Hoseok, don't." Taehyung was now giving a pleading look to him. "Look, it wasn't me who did it. You know how it works—"

"There's a bite mark."

Taehyung glanced back down at Yoongi, tilting his head as their eyes met. Yoongi covered the bite mark on his neck with his hands, cursing to himself.

Taehyung turned back to Hoseok and shook his head. "Tell Namjoon and Seokjin to meet at my house tomorrow morning. I'll explain what happened, but please, let me explain to Yoongi what I want on my own. It's not your business and it's not really your business to be showing up on my property, either."

Hoseok grimaced. "I'm here because of my friend, not because of you."

"Yeah, well," Taehyung reached down to Yoongi and grabbed his hand, intertwining their fingers as Yoongi curled into a ball. "I'm here because of him, too, and you know that." He glared at Hoseok. "So, tomorrow."

Yoongi shied away as Hoseok's eyes met his. "Yoongi, don't be so scared of me." He gave a small smile to his friend. "I already expected this to happen. I'm not angry and I'm trying my best to not take sides, okay?" He glanced back up at Taehyung. "We'll be there at your place in the morning. Make your speech tear-jerking, you asshat." Hoseok threw something at Taehyung's chest and then nearly disappeared faster than he had come.

Yoongi could hardly see the white folded up paper in Taehyung's hand.

"What's that?"

Taehyung put the paper in his pocket before he helped Yoongi to his feet.

"It's nothing."
