Chapter 3 Reality
The hulking man glanced at his window into Earth's dark sky. He thought of Blake, he missed the kid more than he would even like to admit. His arms were crossed as he looked towards the stars. Earth used to be the beauty of the galaxy, until men found other inhabitable planets. Jalh heard a buzzing from his com next to his room, breaking his train of thought.
The bald man walked over towards the buzzing noise, it was from the Military, the youngest authority figure in the military, Apollus Lkor. He wasn't in the mood, he was near the verge of tears, and he hadn't felt such rage in such a long time. Jalh Horker didn't cry and he didn't remorse, he got revenge, he got even. He wasn't a man for tears or soft well placed words and he was a man of action. He knew he should have left Blake at home for their invasion, he knew he wasn't ready for an invasion.
Jalh looked back out the window as he watched a glaring light fly by. Suddenly, he noticed it was coming at him. He leaped from the window in his tank top and sweat pants landing on a building nearby with a gravel roof. The rocks dug into his rough feet as his home exploded before his eyes. His entire team lost. Isaac, Isaiah, Jason, they were all dead now. The giant's skin began to boil, as he stood up from his position, the building blazing with heat, flames engulfing the five stories.
For the second time in his life, Jalh had lost everything right before his eyes. He touched his scar on his left eye, as he clenched his other fist. A roar of anger echoed in the sky above. He moved his head to the side seeing the silhouette of the attacker. The black lining of the figure was at the building next to him, seven to ten yards away, one story above his current position.
"You're already ten feet under." Jalh whispered to himself as he rushed towards the man.
Whomever was there seemed to notice, because the rushed for an escape when Jalh rushed forward. Jalh jumped, grabbing onto the building's window ledge, climbing up to find the attacker's weapon. It was an H-170, a newer module of explosive weapons, the deadly cousin of the bazooka made only a hundred years later. It didn't even take more than a glance at the speed he was at for him to notice the weapon, in the military it was their most reliable anti-tank weapon. Jalh was gaining speed as the slimmer figure peaked behind him. He was only a yard away from the perpetrator. The night air rushed past the mass of muscle moving at an abnormally fast speed.
The face of the attack revealed it to be a young man with brown hair and a small goatee. The boy was sweating as the meaty man tackled him to the ground. The half-ton mass was crushing as the eyes of a predator stared right into his. Jalh trust his oversized hand over the boy's throat as he squeezed.
"Who sent you, and why?" Jalh yelled with venom in his voice.
The boy didn't say a word, as he tried to rough out the pain. Jalh's grim face seemed to become even more disappointing as he slammed the young man's head into the roof they stood atop. The boy's whole face hurt from the blow, and he had a huge migraine, he was surprised that he wasn't dead or unconscious.
"That's just a taste of what's to come! It only gets worse from here." Jalh said in a rough tone.
The man swallowed as he choked out a few words, his throat burning, "The Empire."
Jalh squeezed tighter slamming his head against the concrete roof again, "Why!"
The man choked more gasping for air, blood beginning to spew from his mouth.
"You better speak," Jalh said releasing his grip to slam his fist into the man's shin.
A small satisfy snap came from the deadly blow. Jalh knew he didn't break the bone, but it was fractured. This boy had one last chance if he didn't speak Jalh was going to be finished.
"I was trying to kill you, it was my mission, and you're a threat. F-1-50," The man finished slamming his fist into Jalh's face.
The ex-soldier smiled, with a slightly blooded lip, grabbing the man by the throat again, pulling his fist back. The half-ton man barely turned his head; he was used to hard blows and was prepared for such. The poor young man didn't have any time to react as the fist just started raining down with no end or mercy. Jalh wouldn't stop whaling on the man, he wasn't holding back, he had made a huge mistake and now he was going to pay with his blood.
The blood of the brown young man's face was covering Jalh's hand, his skin started to rip. The once recognizable man was nothing more than bloody pulp. The hulking man wouldn't stop until the air squeezing through his neck was gone. He felt every faint breathe through his fingers, as his hand kept flying back and forth at insane speeds. The shallow air soon faded, and what seemed like a minute to Jalh, and hours for the now dead young man, was less than thirty seconds.
Jalh pulled his bloody hand back, none of the blood being his own. The massacred face showed fractured cheek bones, a broken jaw, split skull, and missing teeth. The roof top where the body laid was covered in the red substance known all too well to Jalh Horker. The man gave off a small sigh; the task was miniscule in his eyes. He looked once more to the stars.
"That's for you, Blake." Jalh said, getting to his feet.
He wiped his hand off on his already bloody tank top. He knew what was after him, now he just needed to know who. He needed to find Apollus Lkor. He took a step back as he started down the roof top, back to ground level.
A slender man pulled away from the hologram, showing the brutal beating of one of his soldiers. Though slender, the man was well portioned, standing six foot four with stocky shoulders. He was quit toned, though under his velvet commander's coat, no man could tell. He rubbed his stubbles on his chin; he had forgotten to shave this morning. He turned around, trying to find out what to do now. He had tried to contact Jalh, but he declined yet again, they needed him, it was too bad that he had chosen a different road.
"You know Apollus; you are the same age as his son?" The General said.
The slender man turned to the General to his left side, slicking back his black hair, "General Flare, I am well aware of this. I have tried contacting him multiple times, twice in the last three days. He is not our associate, he is our enemy, and I am going to bring him in for capital punishment. I tried to offer him something greater, as suggested by the Emperor himself; however, like our kind ruler has pointed out, there comes a point when action must be taken."
"Oh, son, you have a strong sense of justice, but Jalh Horker is the key to this mission, and being in charge, I will not risk such a task again. Three times have I failed, we are just loosing men. Besides yourself, Jalh Horker is the leading military force in the entire empire, and by no less than a margin beyond your capabilities, to say the least. He could do the mission by himself, I ask you to reconsider." The white haired General pleaded.
Apollus looked the man over. General Flare had white hair combed back in a mullet and a mustache like Hitler. He wore the same red coat as Apollus, though with different meddles and instead of a gold lining, a silver one. Apollus and General Flare stood at the same military level, though Apollus was a better field agent, and was assumed to become the next greatest military leader known for the next eight to ten decades. General Flare however was not nearly as handsome as General Lkor, having a pot belly, and a build like a bull.
"I already told you my answer General," Apollus started, "Jalh Horker, as seen in the footage, just beat a man to death with no remorse, he is a violent criminal, and I can no longer support inaction in his cause."
"General Lkor, you are making a big mistake. I worked with Jalh Horker, there is no man in the Milky Way, or any galaxy like him, no single man or army can take him down. You would have to start a war with one man to stand a chance at winning. You are simply throwing away lives." General Flare said with concern in his eyes.
"Thank you for your input, slightly insulting, but still of worthy note. If I must wage war against him, so be it, he is the greatest threat to the Empire we have ever encountered, and worthy of our efforts. He's a loose cannon who needs either repair or destruction, and sense the first didn't work, I will go with the later." Apollus said walking off.
The six foot four man walked down the dark steel walls of the battle ship he was now stationed at. He didn't wish to speak to the General any more, for fear of his impatience. He looked to the sealing thinking back at the brutal scene. The white lights glaring back into his ocean blue eyes. He took a good breathe of air, the pale blue eyes of Jalh Horker stuck in his mind, the eyes of a wild beast, a predator.
Revenge would be his, but first he needed to scavenge what he could from the flames of the burning building; whatever else he needed, he would eventually resupply himself. Jalh glanced over the burning building which had been his home for so many years. Thinking of the throwing knives he had left behind. They were a gift from his wife, and he wouldn't leave without them. He steadily walked towards the building; luckily, the building had an automatic cooling system for fires. He had two minutes to get in and out, before the authorities.
He rushed inside, hoping the flames would be gone when he reached the top. He ran up the stairs as the walls got hotter the closer he got. He felt the wall, nearly scorching his skin as he continued sprinting forward.
Jalh found the flames winning against the automatic cooling system. He rushed to his room, the living area massacred by the explosive. He looked towards the dented door to his armory, rushing in with no further thoughts. He glanced about the room, seeing his armor, and Arc-9 pistol. He quickly grabbed his signature weapon, and his two throwing knives. Out of the two, the knives were more important, but it was always nice to carry a gun.
Jalh rushed back out the flames licking at his skin. It was unpleasant to say the least, but he didn't care. He watched as the police arrived, folding the knives in there respected sheaths, and strapping them to his thigh. Thunder was heard in the distance, but no rain was insight. The starry sky stared at all bellow. Jalh quickly got into the darkness of the shade continue towards an old broken down Subway system. The dark and dreary ruins showed many homeless people around, Jalh walked towards the bathroom. Cracks in the concrete and walls were seen in every direction. He put his hand on the steel door with the green man's bathroom sign painted on. The imaged was faded, but Jalh didn't care, as long as some water was left in the plumbing. An old man pulled on his pant leg, his unkempt beard and hair where a sore sight.
"Let go of me." Jalh said, pulling his pistol out on the man, "Or die."
The dark colored man looked the beast of a man up and down, blood covering his white tank top, and splashes on his sweat pants.
"Ye-Yea-Yes sir," the man stuttered in shock.
"Give me the keys." Jalh said, spotting the silver glisten off the man's clothes.
The man put his hands in the air, dropping the keys on the ground, before crawling into a ball.
"Please don't kill me," the man begged.
Jalh put his gun away; he didn't want to waste the shot, "Your lucky day."
He placed the key into the steel door until it clicked, walking into the run down bathroom. He placed his hands into the sink, turning on the water to watch the green substance poor on top of his hands. He needed to get the blood off his skin, and find himself some knew clothes. Jalh glanced at the door and that at the sink once more as the water began to drip, he had used the last of it. He hadn't expected it to even have water. He glanced at the scratched and cracked mirror in the small restroom. He saw his stubbles growing. He glanced down at tile floor yellowed from urine, smelling it in the air.
Jalh opened the door, tossing the keys back to the old dirty man. The dark skinned man caught it in his hands as Jalh Horker kept moving on. He was going to get off the planet, and that was his first mission.
