The Blind Boy (2/2)

No One's POV
At first, no one moved while Muscles Maximus continued to struggle with the four knives currently securing him to the wall of the arena. It seemed that even the First Realmers continued to be surprised by the trajectory prowess of Mister Bullseye.

The lack of sound went long enough for the announcer to feel the need to say something. "WELL, THERE YOU HAVE IT, FOLKS!! MISTER BULLSEYE NEVER FAILS TO DELIVER WITH HIS TERRIFYING THROWING SKILLS!! IF YOU'RE UNDERWHELMED, DON'T FORGET - THE FIGHT ISN'T OVER UNTIL ONE OF OUR TWO OPPONENTS SURRENDERS!!"

Billy took a smaller knife out of one of his pockets and started to pick under his nails with the tip. "I'll wait," He said disinterestedly. Muscles Maximus seethed and writhed against the knives, trying to rip the fabric around them.

"That's incredible," Kit breathed, peering over the top of the metal fence with wide eyes. "He didn't even scratch him, yet those knives are digging him into the wall with a vengeance!"

"Because he wasn't aiming to scratch him," Inga explained, locking her gaze on her cousin. "He was aiming to restrain him. When Mister Bullseye aims, he aims right. It's called the Sniper's Eye ability, and he wields it like no other."

"That's...insane," Honcho protested weakly. "No one can aim that good - no one!"

Rose turned her scalding smirk on him. "Our cousin can," She told him smugly.

Soon the sound of ripping filled the arena - Muscles Maximus was able to tear the fabric around the knives, thus freeing him. Standing tall with four new holes in his tunic, he leered at Billy. "Neat trick, kid," He spat. "But I wanna see jus' how long you can keep that up!" He went for another lunge, arms outstretched, but Billy was ready for him. He took the small knife and jabbed it right in the web between the brute's thumb and pointer finger, making him howl.

"One is fighting with weapons while the other is fighting with his fists," Ren Wu noted with one eyebrow raised. "Isn't that against the rules?"

"Perhaps with the rules of your realm," Uno supplied. "But here in the First Realm, there are significantly fewer rules when it comes to the fighting rings. In fact, the announcer just stated the only established rule."

"So the only way the fight can end...is if one of them waves the white flag?" Daigo asked.

PIXAL nodded gravely. "That, or one of them is simply unable to continue," She added.

"If you're already itching for the bathroom, don't worry," Rose told the boys contemptuously. "Knowing Mister Bullseye, this'll be over in the blink of an eye."

So the boys continued to watch Billy work his magic in the arena. After stabbing Muscles Maximus in his hand, he took advantage of his confusion to roll under the brute and sweep his legs out from underneath. While he was airborne, Billy quickly straightened up and delivered a kick to his side that sent him careening across the arena floor.

"So he can fight with his limbs as well," Yugo noted with a nod. "Good - for a second, I thought he was just going to teach us how to throw."

PIXAL stared at him with slightly raised eyebrows. "And who said that won't come in handy, Yugo?" She asked him.

The samurai stiffened slightly. "N-nothing," He said defensively. "I just prefer weapons over hand-to-hand combat."

"Sometimes knowing more than one style can work to your advantage," PIXAL advised him, turning back to the fight and leaving Yugo flustered.

"Hah - Samurai Boy's getting scolded by the teacher," Cuza snickered. Over his shoulder, Rose added her own nasty giggle.

Yugo's face turned even more red. "S-shut up," He stammered out of the corner of his mouth. "Those glowing eyes are like red hot stokes boring into my soul..."

Meanwhile in the arena, Muscles Maximus was recovering from Billy's kick; his gait had been reduced to blind stumbling, but the rage rolling off of him hadn't died down one bit. He tried one last lunge at Billy, who grabbed the front of his tunic, pulled him to the ground, took out yet another knife, and locked him into the ground with it. When the brute tried to get back up, Billy landed a few blows to his head, making him rethink his decision.

The entire encounter lasted only two seconds.

Billy brought his head close to Muscles Maximus's, though what he said was broadcasted for all to hear: "Surrender?"

Muscles Maximus lifted his bruised face and spat in Billy's eye. "To surrender to a kid like you would be suicide-"

Another blow to the head, this time to the nose. "What was that about suicide?" Billy asked him snidely, wiping the spit off his eye. "Because I think you're asking for it."

As blood dripped into his mouth and yet another bruise started to take shape on his head, Muscles Maximus finally had to swallow his pride (and a lot of his blood cells) and nod. "Yeah - I s-surrender," He muttered.

Smiling, satisfied, Billy stood back from his handiwork and held his hands up to the roar of the crowd.

"AND THAT'S IT!!" The unseen announcer cried frantically. "IT'S OVER!! MISTER BULLSEYE WINS AGAIN!! SERIOUSLY, IS THERE NOTHING THIS GUY CAN'T DO??!!"

"He's...amazing," Ukyo had to admit. "I wouldn't mind learning from him."

Xander's tan brow crinkled as he watched Billy remove the knife from Muscles Maximus's tunic and help him up in a sportsman-like manner. "His skills are impressive, sure," He relented, his red eyes tracking Billy through the arena. "But I don't want to learn anything in regards to his character."

PIXAL tilted her head curiously at him. "And why is that, Xander?"

The Laughing Giant waved his hand vaguely at the arena. "Well, during the fight, his movements looked forced - almost angry. I'm not sure about learning from a guy who uses his anger as a weapon."

"Says the 6.1 guy with shark teeth and the ability to wield fire," Rose noted in a bored tone up next to his elbow, making him jump.

"It's like I think it and she says it," Lui muttered.

"Great, now we have another Lui - this one with pigtails," Quon quipped from where he was leaning against the arena fence.

In the background, the announcer was introducing the opponents for the next round, but now that they'd gotten a glimpse of their future teacher, the boys paid them no heed.

Before Rose and Lui could murder a skater, Shu spoke up, "Xander has a point - Mister Bullseye looked pretty angry when he fought. What's his problem?"

Inga sighed. "He's had it rough in recent years. Actually, the reason why he's so mad is-"

"RIGHT OVER THERE?!" Rose suddenly bellowed, taking everyone off guard. When Inga stared at her questioningly, she started to gesture wildly to the other side of the arena. At first the boys didn't see anything worth losing your cool over - it was just a bunch of people that looked exactly the same. Then they caught sight of a mop of black hair that kept moving through the crowd and peeking through the slats in the fence.

Almost like whoever it was beneath the hair didn't want to be seen by whoever was in the arena.

But the sisters certainly saw them. Inga was in denial. "He wouldn't...would he?" She kept asking.

"Uh, do you NOT see him RIGHT THERE?!" Rose kept telling her, gripping the top of the fence so hard, the metal started to bend.

Uno seemed to be having a meltdown. "He'd deliberately...go against...his brother's wishes? D-deliberately..." He stammered, his head jerking and eyes twitching during every pause. "D-does not c-compute..."

"Wait, what's happening?" Boa asked, swinging his head between the lot of them and the bobbing mop of hair. "Who is that?"

PIXAL seemed to understand what was going on. "Uno, just look away," She told the android, who complied and tried to get his glitching under control. "Mama Iron, Rampage, go get him and bring him away from the arena before Mister Bullseye sees him!"

"Seriously, what's happening?" Boa exclaimed.

The sisters didn't stop to answer. In the blink of an eye, they were gone, weaving through the crowd as two unknown opponents tousled in the arena below. The boys were left in hopeless confusion as they had no choice except watch the fight until the girls came back.

As one opponent had the other in the air by their throat, shouting started below the cheering of the crowd. The boys couldn't make out the words, but they suddenly saw Inga making her way back through the crowd with Rose right behind her. Only Rose had something slung over her shoulder that definitely wasn't her flamethrower.

And from the looks of it, it was putting up a fight.

Rose caught them staring from across the crowd and glowered at them. "Don't just stand there - follow me!" She grit out as whatever was on her shoulder kicked and thrashed. "Before Mister Bullseye sees you!"

"When did our lives suddenly become in imminent peril?" Daigo fretted as they made their way through the crowd.

"You should really be asking when are they not these days?" Ren Wu asked him.

They followed the sisters away from the arena and onto a shadowy side street. As they got further away from the fighting rings and the cheering, the shouting started to become clearer. It was along the lines of "PUT ME THE HELL DOWN, ROSE!!"

Rose. Not Rampage. They'd used her birth name. So they were family.

Question was, who were they, exactly?

When they reached a dead end, Rose plopped the person down against a wall and Inga immediately started to argue with them. "You know you can't just show up at the fighting rings, Benny!"

"Yeah, you know Billy will kill you if he finds you at one!" Rose joined in, sounding genuinely concerned for the first time since the boys met her.

"Yeah, well, what Billy doesn't know won't hurt him!" The person, Benny, shot back. He was a small boy with the same white skin as the rest of the First Realm population, but his was checkered with scars large and small. He was barefoot, and his claves were where most of his scars were centered. His clothing, which consisted of a jade green tank top and black shorts, was frayed around the edges and hung ragged on his small frame. A dark brown sash lined with three pockets looped around his front, which he kept fingering. Thanks to his mop of black hair, not much could be seen of his face other than a small nose and a soft mouth that was currently twisted into a growl. "I was being careful!"

"You deliberately disobeyed your brother," Uno said haltingly, seeming to be on the verge of another meltdown. "Why, exactly?"

Benny turned in his direction. "I just wanted to see the fights, okay?" He replied, though a little softer.

"You can't see the fights," Rose emphasized, hands on her knees while she fixed him with a glare. "So what's the point?"

"They're fun to listen to!" Benny told her, though he seemed insistent on not meeting her gaze. "The roar of the crowd as they all cheer for a fighter is my favorite part!"

"Regardless, Billy was quite clear when he said no trips to the fighting rings for you," Uno pressed, seemingly in denial with this display of mutiny.

"Like I said, what Billy doesn't know won't hurt him!" Benny shot back, his little hands clenching into fists on his knees. "Besides, he didn't see me, otherwise a lot of people would have their heads chopped off right about now."

At the break the family took in their arguing, Naoki felt it necessary to point out, "Excuse me. Sorry to interrupt your bickering, but...we're still here." Some of the boys waved awkwardly.

Inga finally realized that they had an audience and sighed. "Guys," She started, gesturing to the boy. "This is Benny, our younger cousin - Billy's little brother."

As the boys said their hellos, Benny perked up. "Oh, are those your new bosses, Inga?" At the mechanic's affirmative "yup", he stood up and extended his right hand towards them. "Nice to meet you! I hope you'll treat my cousin well!"

"What about me?" Rose grumbled in the background; Uno remained silent.

"You don't have a job, Rose," Benny pointed out.

A vein popped in her forehead as she leaned towards him threateningly. "SO?! ARE YOU TELLING THEM THAT THEY CAN JUST DO WHATEVER THEY WANT TO ME?!" She sniffed and turned away with her arms crossed. "Some cousin you are."

Benny's hand was still outstretched towards the boys, so Valt decided to do the sportsmanship thing to do and shake it. Though once his hand touched Benny's, the smaller boy did something bizarre - he pulled Valt's arm further towards himself and brought his other hand up to feel along the appendage. He slowly ran his hand up and down Valt's skin from his fingertips to his elbow, nodding as he did so. "I see - you're a swordsman! And what's your name?"

Valt and everyone else stiffened at the sudden intimate contact. "V-Valt Aoi..." He stuttered. He did his best not to recoil at the other boy's roaming hands, but once Benny's fingers stopped moving, he wrenched his hand away.

"What's your deal?" Shu growled, coming up behind Valt protectively. The other boys started to whisper amongst themselves about the incident.

Benny looked confused at the sudden absence of the limb, but then he scoffed. "You really didn't tell them about me?" He asked, turning to his cousins.

Inga looked guilty. "We were getting around to it, I swear!" She promised, clasping her hands in front of her.

"That's my fault, Benny," PIXAL spoke up for the first time. "I was so focused on introducing the Masters to your brother that I forgot to mention you. My apologies."

Benny stared in her direction for a second before sighing. "It's fine, PIXAL," He told her, then turned back to the boys. "You see, what these guys forgot to tell you is...I'm blind."

At the collective HUH, Benny reached up and pushed aside his mop of hair, finally revealing his eyes. Like his brother, they were different colors, though his right eye was a pale rose color while his left eye was a dull slate. His pupils were nearly indistinguishable from his irises, and they stared blankly at the shocked group in front of the boy. A teasing smile lit up his face as he waved his other hand in front of his eyes, showing his inability to track it.

"I was feeling along Valt Aoi's arm because that's how I memorize people," Benny explained, letting his hair fall. "And I only did it because I assumed that they'd told you about me. I should have asked for permission first - I'm sorry." He bent at his waist in an apologetic bow.

"No no, it's fine - it just took me off guard is all!" Valt exclaimed, wildly waving his hands in front of him. "Though now I feel bad for reacting that way." He reeled on the sisters, looking mad. "Seriously, neither of you could've have mentioned that you had a blind cousin? I just made myself look like a total jerk!"

Inga and Uno looked ashamed while Rose simply looked annoyed. "You wanted a teacher, not a burden," She told them matter-of-factly. "Little Blind Boy here would just be in the way."

"Hey!" Inga told her, smacking her arm lightly.

"Yeah, that's mean - don't call him Little Blind Boy!" Valt added, sounding defensive of his new friend.

"Why not?" Rose asked him with a raised eyebrow. "That is his Rider Name!" She positioned her hand above the boy's head and pointed down at him with each syllable, "LI-TTLE BLIND BOY."

"Ouch," Honcho spoke up. "That's rough."

"Yeah," Benny agreed, shaking his mop of hair as he nodded. "Not my choice, but someone called me Little Blind Boy sometime in the past, and unfortunately, nicknames stick around these parts. One thing led to another, and it became my official Rider Name."

"Moral of the story: watch what you do and say while in the First Realm, 'cause it can haunt ya," Rose advised the boys dryly.

"Noted, Rampage," Lui growled.

"OH, YOU WANNA GO, FLAME HAIRED LOSER?!" Rose exploded, getting up in his face. "I'LL FIX THAT LOOSE TONGUE OF YOURS - BET IT'LL TASTE JUST LIKE CHICKEN ONCE I RIP IT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!!"

Lui looked started for a second before a sadistic smile split his face. "YOU WANT MY TONGUE, HUH?! COME AND GET IT!!" He stuck the muscle between his teeth and waggled it teasingly.

Rose growled from her core and lunged for Lui's face - she would have ripped his tongue straight out of his mouth if PIXAL hadn't stepped between them. "Can you two...get along...for TEN...MINUTES?!" She asked them hotly, pinching the tops of their earlobes.

"I swear, I can't tell the difference between them," Quon murmured to Jin.

"I know, right? It's like they're both a mirror image of each other," Jin agreed, nodding.

An awkward silence followed the confrontation. "Well, since we're sharing names," Ken said kindly, walking up to Benny. He reached out and took the smaller boy's hand in his. "Might as well share mine, too. I'm Ken Midori - nice to meet ya, Benny!"

Benny smiled and felt along his arm as well. "I see...you're going through the same training as Valt, though your callouses aren't as defined as his." He angled his head towards where he'd heard Ken's voice. "So what weapon do you use?"

Ken flushed. "Well, I haven't awakened my Element yet, so I haven't claimed my weapon," He explained, pulling his arm away once he saw that Benny was done. "PIXAL's just been having us train with random weapons in the hopes that something will click; personally, I don't know which weapon would suit me best. The only two in our group that have awakened their Elements are Valt and Jin."

Benny's head tilted curiously. "And who's Jin?" He gazed in the direction of the other boys, holding his hand out. "Jin? You wanna go next? Don't worry, I don't bite!" He made a type of V salute with his other hand. "I come in peace, human brethren!" He said in a warbling accent.

Everyone did a double take. "Wha...?" Kit breathed in surprise.

"Are you doing the Valcan salute?" Jin asked; he made his way over to Benny and touched hands with him. "How do you even know what the Valcan salute is?"

"Radio - you'd be surprised how many signals you can pick up with an antenna and a few rolls of foil," Benny said simply, starting his trek up Jin's arm. After a few seconds, he let out a satisfied hum. "So you're a whip user, huh?"

"You can tell that just from his callouses?" Orochi asked over Jin's shoulder.

"The people in this town all use a specific range of weapons," Benny explained, finishing his browsing of Jin's arm. "I've memorized the callouses that come with each weapon, as well as other types. For example, when I was examining Valt's arm, I found a subtle callous on his ring finger that suggested that it's been a while since he's held any sort of writing utensil."

The boys and PIXAL started laughing as Valt turned red. "I-it's just...PIXAL doesn't really have us write for training, and my doodling skills aren't the best - give me a break!" He defended himself.

PIXAL stopped in her guffawing long enough to put a hand on her metallic chest and fix the blue haired boy with a mocking glare. "Are you trying to pin your weak pencil skills on me, young man?" She teased. "I thought I taught you better!"

As Shu comforted a pouting Valt and the others continued to laugh at his expense, Honcho approached Benny. "Okay, no more doubts - I like this guy." He reached out and put his hand in Benny's. "The name's Rantaro Kiyama, Little Blind Boy. But you can call me Honcho!"

So one by one, each of the boys had their arms examined by Benny and he had every one of their callouses committed to memory. By the end of it, the boy looked exhausted. "Jeez...you sure do have a lot of bosses, Inga," He told his cousin. "Sure you can handle them?"

"Oh please - the real question is can they handle me?" Inga assured him, shooting the boys a meaningful look.

"And me!" Rose said defiantly, grinning savagely.

"I am simply here to assist in any way I can," Uno supplied.

Xander chuckled nervously. "Yeah, you may wanna be praying for us instead of them, buddy," He told Benny. Without thinking, he reached forward to ruffle the much smaller boy's hair.

In the blink of an eye, there was a throwing knife embedded into the wall beside them, the sound of its contact ringing in the sudden silence of the street. If it had been only a sixteenth of an inch lower, it would have found itself in Xander's forearm.

"Uh oh," Benny whispered under his black mop of hair. "He found us."

Slowly, fearfully, all eyes turned to the mouth of the street. There, framed surreally from behind by the sunlight, was Billy with his arm stretched towards them. It was he who'd thrown the knife.

But why?

"That was a warning shot," He told the boys lowly, his growl echoing in the silence. "If any of you get any closer to my brother, it'll be your head next." For good measure, he made a show of slowly reaching back to one of his pockets and exposing the hilts of more throwing knives.

Startled into speechlessness, the boys could do nothing but shrink back from both Benny and Billy, making a herd of huddled sheep in the middle of the street. PIXAL and the siblings could only watch helplessly as Billy steadily stalked his way towards them. "Benny, let's go," He called out to his brother. "Time to go home."

"Billy," Inga answered nervously instead. "W-we thought you were still at the fighting rings."

"They were called off for the rest of the day - a guy nearly got a concussion in the third round," Billy informed her hotly. "I saw you guys running through the crowd, but I stayed for appearance sake." He raised his voice slightly, "Benny, did you hear me? We gotta go!"

The small boy scoffed and stepped forward, making the group part like the Red Sea. "What the heck was that for, Billy?" He asked his brother defiantly, his hands clenched at his sides. "They were just being nice!"

"That red head was reaching for your head - what did you expect me to do?" Billy shot back just as defiantly.

"That red head is Xander," Benny answered. "And again, he was just being nice!" He turned in Xander's direction. "Right, Xander?"

The Laughing Giant was reduced to a blubbering mess as he cradled his miraculously intact forearm to his chest. "I...I, uh - uhm..."

"Shut up," Billy told him sharply.

"Yessir," Xander said quickly, trying and failing to make himself smaller behind his teammates.

"Benny," Billy said again, firmer; he held a beckoning hand out to him. "It's time to go."

His little brother faltered for a second before muttering fine and slowly padding up to his brother, groping at the air for a second before finding Billy's waiting hand. The marksman gripped it firmly and turned to walk out of the street.

"Billy," PIXAL finally spoke up, making the brother duo pause.

"Oh, so you speak up when the blind kid's about to leave," Xander grumbled at her side, his red eyes flashing. "But when my life is being threatened, your metal lips are sealed." He groaned and rubbed his arms. "Seriously, why am I the only one who's constantly being threatened by knives?"

"What, PIXAL?" Billy growled, not bothering to turn around. Benny looked uncomfortable with his hand still in his brother's grasp.

"The real reason we were at the fighting rings was because I wanted to introduce the boys to you," The Nindroid explained, gesturing to her students. "I've decided to move their training to the First Realm so they can train under its finest, and-"

"You decided on me because I'm the best of the best," Billy finished for her, chuckling slightly. He was still faced away from her, but when he did turn...

There was suddenly a knife in PIXAL's hand, inches away from one of her green eyes.

The boys cried out in shock, but PIXAL merely looked the blade in her hand over. "Your marksmanship is still on point," She commented Billy, fixing him with a firm gaze. "That's exactly why I need you to train the boys. They could learn a lot from you."

Billy stared at her for a second, then moved his gaze to the still shaking boys. Smirking, he held up his hand and a green light winked inside his stained wrappings. A similar green light shone from the knife hilt in PIXAL's hand, and Cuza cried out as it went sailing from PIXAL over his head to Billy's waiting hand.

"Magnets," Naoki noted, nodding respectively. "Impressive."

Billy glanced at the knife before sliding it into one of his pockets. "Touché, Nindroid," He commended her. "Out of respect for you, I'll train the little worms - perhaps I can get them to actually grow a pair." He mused thoughtfully. "Unfortunately, I won't be able to start their training today - there's talk that they might restart the fighting rings sometime later."

PIXAL nodded. "So tomorrow?"

Billy shrugged. "Maybe. I'll get Inga to send you a message once I'm free." With that, he turned back around and gently lead Benny out of the street.

Once they were gone, the boys took a collective breath of relief. "Okay, who in your family is not a bloodthirsty psychopath?" Ren Wu asked Inga, visibly rattled.

"I've asked this before, but what is his problem?" Shu asked, his arms wrapped supportively around a shaking Valt.

Inga sighed. "Like I had been saying, Billy's had it rough the past few years. Since the day Benny was born and the doctor told his parents that he'd never see in the traditional sense, Billy was super overprotective of him. So much so that he'd use his knives on anyone who'd dare touch him. After being punished for one such occasion, he was never the same again." She stared after the brothers in concern for a second before continuing, "Bottom line is, Billy loves Benny - he just doesn't want him to get hurt."

The others stared at her. "That's cool and all," Daigo admitted. "But how are we supposed to feel safe if that psychopath is training us?"

It was PIXAL's turn to sigh. "He may have an itchy trigger finger, but he's still the best marksman in the First Realm," She told them. "You all could benefit from learning under him."

"Like how to duck and cover if we make the teacher mad?" Boa asked dryly.

PIXAL smirked at him. "Whoever said that wasn't a necessary skill to have?"

The boys groaned. Their lives truly would never be the same again, would they?
