I jolt upright in bed, as fast as light. Thoughts from just moments ago race through my head like a swarm of angry bees. I gasped for air trying to calm myself down while wiping tears from my cheeks. The fact that my room is the darkest in the house didn't help. It's just a dream. I told myself. Well, that's what I tried telling myself because we all know, that these, aren't just dreams. I finally calmed myself down enough to pick up my phone and check the time. I forgot that the brightness was all the way up, so the light from the screen hurt my eyes.

I let my eyes adjust and looked at the time. It read 12:13 am. Well, the middle of the night. Just great. my parents were away at a dinner party so I was home alone. I used the flashlight from my phone to cross to the other side of the room to turn on the lights. There was no way I was going to do anything else without light. I put on my slippers and went downstairs to get a glass of water. I made my way downstair to the kitchen turning on all the lights as I went and grabbed a cup from the cupboard. I filled it with water from the fridge and drank it quickly in big gulps. I placed the glass carefully in the sink.

I went back upstairs, reluctantly turning off all the lights as I went.

I bounded up the stairs and back into my room. I jumped onto my bed and decided to leave my room light on, just because. I couldn't sleep now, so I thought that I would scroll through Instagram for a while then sleep. I was only on my phone for 5 minutes when I heard the front door unlock and open. I guessed Mom and Dad must be home so i turned off my phone and pretended to be sleeping.
