Chapter Two

up there, that's Echolight! I know, like the best name ever! read on!

I woke up. I padded towards Boulder who was still sound asleep.

"Wake up." I whispered. Boulder woke.

"What?" he asked.

"I'm going to hunt. See you." I padded out of the cave. The snow had stopped. But it left miles of it. I walked on the icy crust. There's no way I'll find any prey in this white world! I decided to just look around because it's not like some group of cats are going to come find us and give us a decent home. Soon I saw a forest covered with snow. I heard a nearby bush rustle. Two yellow eyes were visible in the bush. Then they vanished. I took that seriously. I wouldn't tell Dusk. She already had enough to think about. I padded back to the cave empty pawed.

As soon as I walked into the cave, Dusk asked,

"Any luck? Your hunt was short."

"There's nothing out there." I reported.

"I had a feeling you would say that" said Boulder.

"I have to tell you something strange." I whispered to Boulder. I told him what I saw.

"I heard rumors about cats that live in the forest" Boulder replied. "But I don't believe them."

"But what if there actually are cats that live in forest!" I exclaimed.

"Well," said Boulder. "There might be some cats living in the forest, but that cat you saw, it might just be a rogue."

"Maybe we should take a sneak peek really deep into the forest, you know, just to be sure." I said.

"What about Dusk?" Boulder asked.

"She'll be okay." I replied. "She's strong and healthy."

"But she's having kits!" Boulder exclaimed.

"Yeah, I figured" I replied. "But I really think we should check out the forest."

"Okay," Boulder heaved a sigh. "If you say so."

"Thanks!" I replied. I padded up to where Dusk was. She looked deep in thought.

"Dusk," I asked. "Boulder and I think we should go on another hunt. We all need our strength up." Dusk just simply nodded her head. "Dusk, is there something wrong?"

"No." she answered. I could tell there was something she was hiding.

"Let's go" I said to Boulder. We padded out of the makeshift cave. Once we were away from the cave, I stopped

"I really wished I didn't lie to her." I said. "I mean, she is my mother."

"Well," Boulder replied. "Sometimes it's best to keep some secrets." I looked up and stared into his yellow eyes.

"Sometimes I wish I had a easy life." I confessed. " Most of the time in BloodClan, I was scared. I wish my father didn't make the decision to go and join BloodClan. Then, he wouldn't have died."

"I was scared too" Boulder replied. "But, let's forget about this. We should stick to the plan. Not talk here."

"Good idea." We walked into the forest, the thorns snagging at our fur.

After a few minutes of walking, I smelled a strange scent. I paused. Boulder must have scented it to because he also paused. The scent was coming closer by the second.

"Hide!" I whispered. We both jumped into a bush just as a group of four cats came just a few tail lengths away from where we were hiding. The first cat paused, Listening intently.

"What is it?" asked the second cat.

"There's something strange around here" he replied.

"Like what?" asked the third cat.

"I don't know." said the first cat. The fourth cat sniffed.

"It smells like BloodClan!" he exclaimed.

The first cat tensed. "We better report this to Cloverstar." They all ran off.

I emerged out of the bush. "That was close." I said.

"But now we know that there are cats living in the forest!" Boulder replied.

"We should tell Dusk about this!' I exclaimed excitement coursing through me. "Come on!"

Pretty cool huh? We are at 671 words! Fun fact of the day:

A cat can travel at a top speed of approximately 31 mph (49 km) over a short distance.[1]
