Chapter twenty one

I woke up from my alarm. I didn't want to get up, but I had to. I quickly got changed and headed to the pod where Hunter is waiting. "Good morning, Hunter. You ready?"

"Yes, you?"

"Ready as I'll ever be."

"Where are we going to start off?"

"I was thinking outside, then working our way from there."

"Ok. I'm following you."

We headed outside, and man it was pitch black out. We haven't walked out far enough and I already see the killer, but Hunter didn't. We walked a bit farther, then I realized that it wasn't the killer that I knew. "Run." I say quietly.

"What?"

"Run." I said louder. The figure was walking right towards us. I didn't wait for him, I booked it back to the school. Eventually, Hunter came running behind me. We made it to the school and ran to the blue pod, where the killer came out of Ian's room covered in blood. "Whoa, how did he get from the field to here before us?" Hunter asked, surprised. "Your friend is trying to kill us." I say. "Daniel wouldn't kill you, and I only have three friends, Rick, Daniel, and Emma." the Killer said.

"So if you don't have one of your killer friends chasing us?" Hunter asked.

"No Daniel and Emma are sleeping back home, and Rick's dead."

"Then who's hunting us?" I say, scared.

"I don't know." he replied again.

We heard banging on the door. "I'll go check it out." The killer left and we were alone. "Is this part of a plan that you thought of so that you could win?"

"No!"

"Right."

"You think I could rig this plan?"

"Yes."

The killer came back running back, waving his hand to go. "Run!" We stood but confused. He came running into us, shoving us to go. "Run to the gym now!" We did just that. He shoved us in the storage, turned on the light and locked the door. "Okay. I want to know and I want to know now! Who's idea was it to do this?"

I point to Hunter. "You wanted to do it."

"I didn't know it was going to be this bad."

"You could've backed out," he said.

"No, you said I was weak and I wanted to prove you wrong."

"Well you were wrong."

"Enough! From both of you. I don't care who's fault it is. I was just asking who's idea it was. Now apologize."

"I'm sorry. It's just, you called me weak and I hate it when people call me that."

He cleared his throat to signal Hunter that it's his turn. "I'm sorry for all the things I said about you. There, better?"

"Better now-"

We heard doors opening. The killer immediately burned the lights, so it was pitch black incase whoever was chasing us wouldn't find us here. He immediately covered my mouth because I was panicking. "Shh."

There was movement outside that door. Then everything went quiet. "I think he's gone. I'll check." Hunter said. "Have you ever watched a horror movie? Never open the door when someone is chasing us, especially if it went quiet all of a sudden!" explained the killer.

"Even I know that." Hunter then stepped back from the door. It was silent for a few minutes. All of a sudden, the door knob jiggled a lot. The person was breaking in as he was pounding on the door saying, "Open up! I know you're in there!" I was now struggling to get back from the door. The killer is holding me tight, to the point where I couldn't move.

Hunter came to where we were. Hiding in the back of the room. "He's trying to break in." Hunter whispered yelled. He took out a butcher knife from his pocket, getting ready if he breaks in. He then wraps his arms around me, knife still in hand. He covered my mouth slowly. I could breath.

"Stay put." he went to the door and opened it carefully. The next thing I see is he got stabbed in the shoulder and fell to the ground. The guy came in, the killer took the knife from his shoulder and stabbed him square in the chest.

"Are you ok?!" I say going to him.

"Nope." he held his left shoulder so the blood wouldn't come out. "Hunter, go grab a paper towel. On a scale from one to ten, how bad does it hurt?"

"Ten." I take off my sweater and hold it against his shoulder. "Please don't leave me."

"I won't."

"Just hang in there."

Hunter came back with a handful of paper towels and I held it there for a while. I felt his bloody glove on my hand. My breathing got a bit wispy. "Hey, don't cry. It's going to be ok. He only got my shoulder."

"I know." I pressed down real hard, that he started to pant. "Sorry, sorry . . . I'm sorry."

"It's not you, it's my shoulder."

"What are we going to do with that body?"

"I don't know Hunter."

"How far did the knife go in?" Hunter asked. "Because I can do stitches."

"Not far."

"Can you take off your sweater, Noah?"

"Noah?" he said with confusion in his voice. "Yes Noah." I kicked him in the leg. "Oh, I can if he turns around or goes outside."

"Can you do that Hunter so I can take a look at his shoulder?"

"Sure." He went outside. He took off his sleeve of his sweater, still being careful not to show his identity , as I was turning on the lights. "Thanks for going along with it. I know you don't want anyone else to know."

"Thanks for thinking of something fast."

"No problem."

He took off his sweater and I saw the cut on his shoulder. It wasn't a bad one, though. All he needed was a huge band aid, then he'd be ok. I pushed against his shoulder to hold the blood back. The dead body laid there beside us. "Hey Hunter." I say taking it out to him. "You want a job?"

"Sure."

"Take this body to the . . . dumpster."

"Ok."

He left and I ran to get a band aid from the front office. I then checked to see if Hunter was coming back, and yes he was. I quickly ran back to the storage room and peeled the band aid off and stuck it on him. "Quick get you sweater back on, he's coming back." He got his sweater on and I helped him up. The killer and I started walking out of the storage room. Hunter came back in. "Hey, I'm heading back to bed now. Good bye."

"Hold it, missy. We had a deal to survive the night."

"We did survive the night, thanks to him."

I started walking away from them when Hunter yelled, "we're not done yet. Someone didn't win." I stopped and turned around. "So, we both survived and we both won. Goodnight." I left them. I headed back to my room when the killer came running up behind. "Thanks for helping me."

"No problem. You were bleeding badly and I couldn't leave you there, after you saved us."

We walked back silently. "Hey, do you want to go on the roof for a bit?"

"Sure. I got nothing better to do then sleep." He looked back to make sure Hunter wasn't following us, then headed outside. We climbed up on the roof and stood there. I leaned against him, on his good shoulder. In the morning, it'll only be the last full day here, then we will leave by noon the next day. I can't wait to leave this place.

We ended up staying on the roof. We both laid down and I curled into him. And we ended up sleeping on the roof that night.

It was morning, and I've gotten up. He was still asleep and I sat on the ledge to watch people driving, and walking. Tomorrow we can leave this school. Go back home to see our families. I bet you Ian's dead. When I saw him coming out of his room, I knew that he died. He let him go once, and he's not letting him go again.

I heard rustling noises from behind, and when I turned around, Killer sat up awake. He got up to sit with me. "Goodmorning."

"Morning."

"How can you breathe in that?"

"That's the problem, I can't. At some point in the night, I make sure no one's around and quickly pull it down to get air. It's hard to breathe in this."

"Then how come you have it?"

"So in case if someone sees me, they won't know who I am."

"Smart."

My stomach was rumbling. "I guess it's breakfast time for me." We both got up and headed for the ladder. Once we climbed down and headed inside, Samantha came running down, as he immediately left. "Samantha what happened?"

"It's Ian . . . he's dead!"

"What?"

"Yes, come take a look." Samantha and I book it down the hall. Fast as lightning, we made it to Ian's room in no time. There lies his lifeless body. He has cuts and scrapes all over him. Blood dripping from his blonde hair. Blood streaming from his mouth and nose. He definitely had fun last night. Kylo stepped into the room looking sad about Ian. "He's gone." Kylo replied, breaking the silence. I've got to admit, Kylo's a really good actor. I still believe he is the killer.

Tomorrow, the survivors get to go home. Tonight, only one dies, and one of those three would either be Hunter, Samantha, and Ethan. I leave so suddenly to get breakfast. On the way, I sing Still Alive.

I got there and had my bowl of cereal with a side of grapes. I sat down and just ate silently. Thinking about all the people who died. My friends, most of the gulag gang, and the people I hate. Only five of us left. Everything that had happened in the past two weeks. I stopped eating. I couldn't eat it anymore, so I dumped the cereal down the sink, put the grapes back and sat back down at the table.

Samantha came into the room and sat with me. "Hey how's it going?"

"Good, you?"

"Good. We leave tomorrow. Well the survivors do."

"I know. Isn't that exciting."

"You know. If I don't make it tonight, which hopefully I will, but if I don't have a good life."

"Thanks Samantha."

Kylo walked into the room getting some cereal and sat down beside us. We were chatting for a bit. "So tell me, how did your first kiss go."

"I woke up one morning- when was it? Last week or something?"

"You had your first kiss?" Kylo asked in shock

"Yeah."

"Anyways, I got up because we were sleeping on the roof. I watched the people drive and walk freely. So I told him that I didn't want to die and I became upset. He wiped away my tears and gave me a great speech. He then cheered me up by tickling me. He ended on top of me. He then leaned down, pulled his bacalva down, and kissed me for the first time." I explain. "I will never forget that."

"That sounds amazing," he claimed. "He leaned down and kissed me again. And that was the day where you guys went out for the day, and I stayed back."

"That's so sweet."

"It was the greatest moment I will remember, and the first where I was calm. Want to go walking outside?" I requested.

"Sure." Samantha said. "Sure I'll come, get some fresh air." We headed outside and went on the hill closets to the green pod doors. I've never seen Kylo end with a conversation before, that doesn't include his friends. It's nice to see him interested in the conversation. "So, who do you think is going to die tonight?" Samantha asked.

"Either Hunter or Ethan." Kylo said.

"I'm surprised Ethan hasn't died yet." Samantha mentioned.

"Same here."

The other two came out to join us. We were talking and laughing about the memories we all had together. It's funny how we started with twenty-five people, now we got five people remaining. Twenty people died in two weeks. We talked for about an hour or two, then we went our separate ways. I went into the library to read for a while. I could only read for so long before I got tired of reading and wanted to do something else.

I kept on reading until my eyes were getting tired from looking at the pages, so I closed the book and closed my eyes for a while.

Turns out it was a long time before I opened them again.
