Chapter Ten~Will We Ever Get a Break?

Piper's POV

Godtravel sucks. I stood in New York City with Thor and Percy with my hands on my knees trying to catch my breath. I noticed that Percy looked a little sick. His arm was in the sling, but he was still holding it tightly to his chest like it was bothering him.

I looked around and breathed in the familiar city air. I could see the Avengers tower in the distance so I started walking towards it, trusting the boys to follow me.

"Wait, Piper." Thor called from behind me. I turned just in time to see Percy run over to a trash can. I turned away as he emptied the contents in his stomach.

He caught back up to us but he was swaying. He looked very dizzy and light headed. "You okay?" I asked him. He nodded and we kept walking. We were stopped a couple minutes later as Percy proceeded to run into a tree. He grunted but kept walking. Then he ran into a light post. I winced in sympathy.

Percy looked really guilty and I know he wanted to get to the tower as soon as possible. He was holding us up and he knew it. I passed him another square of ambrosia and he took it with thanks.

He threw up again and I decided that Thor should carry him. So he did and we made faster time to the tower. Percy was fine to walk as we climbed into the elevator and hit the button for the Avengers floor. I can't wait to see Jason. My heart pounded as the elevator moved.

I took the time to make sure we had all the ingredients. Medusa's dust is in the lab, Thor has the canteen of mead, and I have the large bottle of fountain water and the flask of Nympaeum water.

The elevator ride was agonizingly slow. Finally the doors slid open and we burst into the Avengers floor. Immediately we were met with the team and Hazel and Frank. I soon noticed that at some point, Nico and Thalia joined our group. While Tony and Bruce were questioning us on our quest, Percy's injury did not escape the notice of Thalia and Hazel. They were on him in seconds.

"Percy what happened to your arm?" Thalia asked. He waved them off. "We have more important things to worry about." Our statue friends had since been moved to the commons room we were in. Bruce got out a big bucket and we started to prepare the antidote and tell our story.

"What took you guys so long?" Tony asked.

"Percy ran into a couple trees." I said.

"PERCY RAN INTO SEVEN TREES!" Thor stared proudly. Percy blushed scarlet but didn't say anything. Tony and Clint burst out laughing until Natasha elbowed them.

We put the fountain water in the tub first. "Can I drink some?" Tony pleaded. I glared at him. "No. That water was hard earned. We can't afford to spare any." I said with a nod toward Percy. He just now seemed to notice that his nephew's arm was in a sling.

"What happened?" He questioned. Thor answered for him. "Mímir required a blood payment from Percy. The water we took had to equal the blood he gave."

Bruce gaped at Percy. "How are you still standing right now? The water in that bottle was approximately 2 liters! Your body has an average of 5 liters of blood, maybe more. Most people pass out after giving two pints and you gave 2 LITERS!"

"It was necessary." Percy muttered quietly. He was leaning on Frank for support. Next came water from the Nymphaeum in Rome. "How did it go getting this?" Hazel asked. "It was simple actually," I said, "the nymph was still thankful from the last time so she just let us take it."

Next we added the mead. "We ran into Annabeth's cousin Magnus in Valhalla. He's dead, and he somehow knew Percy." I said.

"Annabeth and I helped him with his quest a couple months ago." He said with a shrug.

We then mixed in Medusa's dust and it added a golden sparkle. Thor went on to explain that we needed to equally divide the concoction and dump it on their heads.

Percy took the first one and poured it over Annabeth's head. The stone began to crack and crumble and she started to move around. The stone broke away like a plaster shell and Annabeth fell forward into Percy's waiting arms. Or arm. He almost dropped her.

I poured a quarter of the antidote on Jason's head and the results were much the same. Hazel cured Leo and Tony Steve. Soon everyone was relatively back to normal. I held Jason's hand tightly in mine and we walked over to Percy and Annabeth. She had just noticed the bandage on Percy's arm.

I watched in silence as she unwrapped the gauze. The wound was an ugly shade of purple, as was the rest of his arm. She dropped his arm and it flopped limply to his side as he whimpered in pain.

"I'm so sorry!" she said as she gently grabbed his arm again. "I'm surprised you're still conscious." He promptly collapsed. Her and Jason caught him and Bruce brought him to the infirmary to get a blood transfer. He'd given up a lot. Meanwhile, Leo and I discussed his newly acquired fear of statues. And the hulk.

After our intense conversation, I sat on the couch with my head on Jason's shoulder. I thought about all that had happened on our quest while I held Jason's hand.

I am so so thankful that we were able to get a cure for Jason, Annabeth, Leo, and Steve. I don't know what I would've done with myself if we weren't able to help them.

Annabeth called for me from the hallway and I went to move but Jason's hand in mine stopped me. I bounced back like I was attached to a bunch cord. I gave him a silly look and tried pulling away again but our fingers were tightly interlocked.

He pulled me closer to him so I was sitting on the couch again. "Sorry." He said sheepishly, "My joints are getting a little locked up."
He used his available hand to pry his stiff fingers from mine.

Once my hand was free, I ran to see what Annabeth wanted.

She had that look she gets when she needs to know something. She looked almost desperate. "Can you tell me what happened?" She asked.

"Of course," I said, squeezing her hand as we walked to the infirmary. Percy lay on the bed with an IV in his arm. His color had greatly improved and he looked to be taking a peaceful nap.

We sat down and I explained to her all that had happened on our quest-about the fountain water and Percy's sacrifice, the encounter with her cousin, and the quick trip to Rome.

She nodded. She seemed more at ease now that she knew all of the details. "Do you want to stay here or come with us? Jason and I are going for a walk."

"No, that's okay. I'll stay with Percy." She smiled. She followed me out of the infirmary and sat next to Hazel. I grabbed Jason's hand and we set out on our own.

Jason's POV

I held Piper's hand in mine as we walked around Central Park, pointing out different places.

I pointed out the spot that Percy said was Orpheus's entrance to the Underworld. We walked a little farther and found a huge maple tree that once trapped the Titan Hyperion.

There were other various signs of battle that weren't as obvious, but battle worn demigods like us could point them out.

We walked a little farther and then exited the park. We walked over the uneven cobblestone sidewalk to the mall. We walked up the stairs past the nude statues and to the bakery.

We got coffee and pastries and went and sat on a bench outside. I loved just enjoying a snack with my girlfriend and acting like we were normal, like there wasn't a care in the world.

But of course, that didn't last long. This time, the offenders were human.

Four men in black clothing with Avengers face masks and glow-y weapons started shooting at the mortals and causing chaos. I immediately jumped to my feet and discarded my delicious snack.

"Hey!" Piper yelled using her charmspeak, "put your guns down! You'll hurt someone!"

The guy wearing the Thor mask turned with alarming speed, his glowing weapon now fixated on Piper. Before I had time to react, the weapon whirred to life and sent a beam of deadly energy through her side.

"Piper!" I shouted. She staggered, but managed to stay on her feet. She waved me off signaling she was fine. 'Go kick their asses' she seemed to say. And kick their asses I will.

I roared and charged them, my golden gladius drawn. The man wearing the Hulk laughed at me and shot, but I deflected the beam using the wind.

His laughter died in his throat. I knocked the strange gun out of his hand and brought the hilt of my sword down in his head. He fell and his friend Iron Man attached. I was getting ready to summon a lightning bolt when I string shot from behind me and grabbed the guy's gun.

"I thought you guys went to jail?" Said a voice from behind me. I turned and almost did a double take. The figure now in front of me was wearing a blue and red spandex spider suit.

"Need help?" He asked tilting his head to the left. I shrugged and together we attacked. In seconds we had them all unconscious and tied up in webs.

I held out my hand and we shook. "I'm Spider Man." He said. "Jason Grace." I answered. Piper fell to her knees and I ran over. Blood gushed between her fingers as she held her hand to her side.

The weird weapon made a nasty wound in her side, taking a chunk out of her skin. I pressed my fingers to her side to apply pressure and hopefully stop the bleeding, but to no avail.

Spider guy knelt and looked at me. "May I?" He asked. I nodded, understanding immediately. He shot a web at he wound and Piper yelled in pain. She squeezed my hand hard and I squeezed back. Spider Man shot a couple more until he had made a decent bandage.

"Where are you guys going? I could help you get there faster." He offered in that adolescent voice. "Um...Avengers Tower." I confessed.

"Whoa, really? You're with the Avengers? That's so cool, man. I'm with the Avengers too! I stole Cap's shield once."

"Hey, that's cool and all, but we really need to get moving. I can fly her back but do you have a mode of transport?" I asked. He seemed only slightly shocked that I could fly.

"Oh yeah, I can, you know, shoot my webs and stuff. Lots of buildings. I'll meet you there."

I picked up Piper bridal-style and flew to the Avengers Tower. Spider Man managed to keep up with me using his webs to swing himself across the city. I carried Piper into the tower (who was now barely conscious) and got in the elevator. Dang elevator. Why does it have to take so long?

Finally the elevator dinged and opened. Just then Spider Man flew in threw the window. Why didn't I think of that? There were many screams of surprise from the sudden action(mostly Leo). I ran in the room and yelled for Bruce to get the medical stuff ready.

I rushed Piper into the infirmary and laid her down gently on the hospital bed. Percy had been sitting on the next bed over talking to Annabeth when they both stood up in alarm.

"What happened?" Annabeth whisper shouted. "Bad stuff." Was all I could managed. Bruce went to work and called in some nurse people. Soon Piper was properly bandaged and she lay on the bed, holding my hand and snoring. I love the little puff thing she does when she snores. It's adorable.

Piper and I were alone in the room now and I decide to take a nap so I made myself comfortable on the chair I was sitting in and I fell asleep, not letting go of Piper's hand.

Percy's POV

We all sat around the table and ate supper except for Piper and Jason who were in the infirmary at the moment. Spider Man had since taken off his mask and introduced himself as Peter Parker, a fifteen year old nerd from Queens.

My left arm is still in a sling. It's throbbing really painfully right now and it's all I can do to stop myself from wincing, but I don't want to cause a scene. I'm tired of the attention I'm getting as it is.

Supper was "unsuccessful" in Natasha's opinion. Probably because it ended in an all out food war. But don't worry, it wasn't my fault.

It started with Thalia and Nico bickering like usual. Then Nico decided it would be a good idea to dump his water on her head. Fuming, she shoved his face into his mashed potatoes. Leo had been a little too happy to join in the fight, lighting his bread on fire and chucking it at Steve.

That's when all Hades broke loose. It only stopped when our new guests walked through the elevator. The affect was instantaneous. Silence filled the room and everyone froze as Will and Reyna stormed up to the table.

"More demigods?" Tony asked casually.

Will ignored him, turning to me. "Camp's in danger. Monster attacks are getting more frequent and dangerous. We need you guys at camp."
