Alex P.O.V.

I had a vampire costume on for the Halloween party. It wasn't great but it was what it was.

"Hello! I'm Mrs. Laurens, you must be John's boyfriend! He talks about you non-stop" (see what I did there hehe)
"Really?" I asked hopefully.
"Yeah! He goes on and on about what a gentlemen you are and how nice you treat him now" she said.
"No I don't!! Shut up!" John said from behind her as they both started laughing. John had a purple witch costume on. He looked adorable in it.
"I'll see you guys later!" His mom said as she hugged John goodbye. It made me jealous and sad. Why couldn't my mom have just stayed a little longer? I looked at John as he grabbed me hand.

"I got you flowers, again" I said handing him some purple flowers. I was super nervous and scared John would bail on me. He took the flowers happily and kissed my cheek.
"Thanks for coming with me" I said happily as I wrapped an arm around his neck in a hug
"Thanks for inviting me" he replied. I opened his door for him and he got in the car.
"If you think this is big, imagine what I'll do to ask you to prom" I said nudging him.
"What if I ask you first?" He questioned. I looked at him doubtfully but he just smiled at me happily
"Let's go!" He said kissing my cheek. I nodded and drove us to the school.

I got us something to drink. As soon as I left John and went to the snack table place thingy I noticed Lafayette walk up to John. 'Oh no' I thought. I came back and looked at John and Lafayette as if expecting an explanation.

"Have a great night" Lafayette smirked as he walked off. I handed John something to drink and took a sip of my drink.

"What'd he say?" I asked. He shook his head and looked away.
"Nothing"
"If it was just nothing then you'd tell me" I pointed out trying to keep my voice as calm as I could. I really didn't want to scare him
"I can't tell you! He'll hurt me!" He said as tears welled up in his eyes. I put a hand on Johns cheek and wiped away tears.

"We'll talk about it later, don't let Lafayette ruin our night" I said smiling. He nodded.

"I like your costume" I said trying to change the subject
"T-Thanks" he stuttered. I've observed something about John, he always stutters when he's intimidated or scared.
"I have to go to the bathroom" I lied
"O-ok"

I left the dance and went home. I know it's rude to just leave, especially since I'm his ride, but he's still scared of me. How am I supposed to be in a relationship if he's scared of me? How do I know if he's only dating me because he's scared of me?

Damnit. I just won't respond. Easy.

John: Alex?
John: where are you?
John: please come back
John: Lafayette won't leave me alone
John: Alex?
John: Please respond

I'm starting to feel bad. Why shouldn't I? What I just did was terrible. I wouldn't be surprised if he breaks up with me tomorrow.

John: where have you been?
John: the dance just ended
John: ...I'll just call my mom to pick me up

Oh no. I'm such an idiot. He hates me now, doesn't he?

John: Lafayette keeps telling me you want to break up
John: do you?

An hour later

John: please respond
John: you're worrying me
John: did I do something wrong?
John: we can break up if you want...

An hour later

John: I'll take that as a yes..
John: seeya tomorrow

I deserve this. I shouldn't have left. He'll never talk to me again.

I went to bed. I couldn't sleep so I just laid there for hours until I heard my alarm clock go off.

I yawned and got ready for school. What am I gonna do about John? He's in three of my classes and sits beside me in one.

"The bus is here!" Washington shouted from downstairs. I ran downstairs and outside to catch the bus before it drove off. I sat it the back, as always.

When we got to school I went to my locker.

"Where were you yesterday?" I heard John ask me
"I tried texting you" He added
"I had to go. emergency." I lied
"What emergency? Is everything ok?" He asked
"Yeah." I mumbled. I grabbed my books and started to walk to class but stopped when I saw John.

"What happened?!" I asked seeing he had a black eye
"L-Lafayette" he stuttered looking down.
"He did this?!" I asked lifting his chin so he faced me. He nodded avoiding my gaze
"I'm so sorry I left! This is my fault!" I said hugging him. He hugged me back.
"It's fine. You had an emergency" he said.

"Thought you guys broke up, considering you just left him last night" I heard Lafayette say. I turned around and punched him in the face.

"Why'd you punch him?" The principle, Phillip Schuyler, asked me
"He was being a bitch" I said looking at the ground
"That's not an excuse for punching him or cussing" principle Schuyler said firmly
"I don't care" I said rolling my eyes
"Three day suspension starting tomorrow" he said "now get out of my office"

I went to lunch. John sat next to me.

"You looked great in purple John" Martha said
"You were at the dance?" I asked her
"After you left I hung out with Martha" John explained
"Oh." I said glaring at Martha
"Is everything ok?" Martha asked me noticing me glaring at her
"Yeah."

I took out my phone

"Did you block me?" I asked John
"Yeah...it was an accident" John said. I knew he was lying but I just nodded and acted like I believed him

Peggy came over and slapped me

"What was that for?!" I asked
"For leaving John last night and making him cry!" She said putting her hands on her hips
"I made him cry?" I asked
"yes!" She snapped. I got up and ran off.

"Alex!" John shouted.

I walked home.

Alex: no I didn't
John: what? Then why'd you leave?
Alex: because you stutter when your scared or intimidated and you were stuttering. I thought you were still afraid of me.
John: oh.
Alex: and now it's all my fault Lafayette hurt you
John: it's not all your fault. Don't feel bad
Alex: I shouldn't of left
John: it's fine
Alex: you don't mean that
John: I'm not mad
Alex: I'll get back at Lafayette I swear
John: you already punched him in the face just leave him alone
Alex: fine

I don't deserve him at all. Why does he even like me? I've been nothing but a jerk to him. I practically begged him to go to that dance then I just left him because I thought he was a little intimidated by me.

Later that day I heard a knock at the door. When I answered it I saw John in his costume from last night.

"You still owe me that dance" he said smiling. I laughed and let him inside.

I changed into my vampire costume.

"May I have this dance?" I asked formally. He laughed and nodded taking my hand. We danced around the living room and laughed. It was really fun.

"You look great in purple" I said
"Thanks" he smiled
"Why do you like me? I've been a jerk to you"
"But you've also been the only one nice to me most of the time. The Schuyler sisters don't like me they just hang around you and Martha only hangs out with me because she has a crush on me" he pointed out
"I love you" I said
"I love you too" he said smiling. He put a hand on my cheek and kissed me softly. He quickly pulled away.

"Lafayette's g-gonna kill m-me" he stuttered
"Why would he bother you?" I asked
"If I t-tell you he'll h-hurt me" he stuttered as tears welled up in his eyes
"Just tell me" I said "I won't tell Lafayette I know"
"Lafayette threatened m-me. He s-said he liked you a-and if I didn't back off he would h-hurt me. He also s-said if I tell anyone h-he'd hurt me" he stuttered
"Oh." I said shocked. I hugged him.

"He's not going to touch you, I promise" I said protectively
"B-but you're suspended. You won't b-be at school" he stuttered as tears rolled down his cheeks
"Just because I'm not at school doesn't mean I won't protect you" I said wiping his tears away
"I love you" I said softly
"I l-love you too" he smiled trying his best not to stutter

"It's dark outside, do you wanna stay here for the night?" I asked
"Y-Yeah" he smiled
"You can sleep in my bed, I'll sleep on the floor" I suggested
"No, it's fine. I'll sleep on the floor" he insisted
"Are you sure?" I asked
"Yeah" he nodded

I gave him two pillows and a bunch of blankets.

"Alex I don't need all of this" he laughed
"I just want to make sure you're comfortable"
"Thanks but I'll be fine"

"Goodnight" I said kissing his forehead. I climbed into bed but I didn't fall asleep for awhile. I was worried about John.

"Alex," I heard John say. I yawned and sat up
"Yeah?" I asked
"I can't sleep" he said. I looked at my clock and saw it was midnight
"Do you want to go home?" I asked him
"No" he said
"You can sleep with me" I offered. He nodded. I scooted over and he laid down beside me
"Goodnight" I said kissing his forehead
"Goodnight" he yawned. I turned over and started to fall back asleep. I felt John lean his head on my shoulder.

"I love you" I said
"I love you too"

I fell asleep once I was sure John was asleep
