(You will never change, will you, child)
"No, I suppose not."
I didn't believe that goat.
Not for a second. The skeleton popped in and out before I could react. I started freaking out, I didn't know if he would come back or if Toriel and Asgore would have to go find him. Now, that "Sans" character didn't look trustworthy to me. I don't think Asriel saw, but as Sans was disappearing, his left eye flashed blue. I decided not to tell Asriel, though. I had forgotten I was eating chocolate, and almost dropped it while walking out of the room, my mind racing on what actually happened. I started pestering Asriel to see if I could get anything out of him.
"Where did you go?" I tried. "To Sans and Papyrus's house" He simply said. "Why were you gone so long?" I ask. "I was having spaghetti." I stared at Asriel for a few seconds. "You're lying." Asriel started laughing. "You know I wouldn't lie to you!" I started growling, but I knew Asriel was right. "Fine. Chocolate?" I ask him. "Um...sure?" He sounded uncertain. "You wouldn't stab me if I touched my paw to it?" I laughed. "No, silly! I wouldn't do that." I gave him a piece of my chocolate and turned to leave the room. At the doorframe I looked back at Asriel. He was staring at the chocolate as if he was trying to decide whether if it was real or not. "Well, prince fluffy-bunny. Are you coming?" He nodded.
That night as I was laying on my pallet of blankets, I thought over my day. Toriel took me into the ruins and showed me how to properly get out of a fight. "If you strike up a friendly conversation, it will be over soon." She said. I did as she said, but it felt wrong. Like I should be fighting, not stalling. After she brought me back to Home, I got a massive headache. Asriel looked pretty worried, but I shook the feeling off. Now that I was still, it pounded harder. I managed to drift off to sleep. The dream that was generated was when I fell down here, but it was different. I was watching from just above the golden flowers. I watched myself fall. As the shape got closer, I realized it wasn't me. It was a different human in a blue sweater. I watched them fall just to the left of the flowers. I winced as they hit the ground. I hovered for what seemed a couple of minutes, but the human didn't move. They looked significantly like me, but I was paler. Probably a result of my not getting out in the sun very often. Without giving myself permission, I drifted over to the human. I tried to stop but I had no control over myself, I let the ghost me take over. It drifted into the human. Then my point of view was from the human's eyes. Their thoughts buzzing in my mind.
Frisk...Scared...Fallen...Curious...
Then they were gone. New thoughts filled my mind. The feeling of worry that I had felt was gone. I tried thinking of Chocolate. Nothing triggered. No emotions.
Murderer...Erase...Ready...Idiots...
The human started walking forward. As they did, a horrible laugh filled the the room, a horrible maniacal laugh.
I jerked awake and saw Asriel standing above me with his mouth open in a huge smile, a party hat in his head. I screamed and jumped back. "Don't do that!" I yelled. "Oh, sorry." He looked shocked. "It's just, you were basically going crazy all over the room." I looked around and saw that he was right. My blankets were on top of the dresser and I had managed to wedge myself behind the toy chest behind Asriel's bed. "Sorry. Nightmare." I said. "Now isn't the time to be sad!" He told me. "Do you know what today is?" "Uh, the day we don't eat snail salad?" I ask. Asriel laughed. "No, we are going to have snail salad. It's been at least one month since you fell down!" "You're not joking, are you?" I hope he isn't, because if he is, I am gonna take that party hat and... "No, I'm not joking, and mom made pie!" "Yuck!" I said, "I hate snail pie." Asriel laughed, "No, we're having pie pie!" "You mean the pie is pie flavored?" I said, slightly confused. "No, like, um, the dessert kind." "Oh," I said, feeling slightly silly, "well, as long as it doesn't have snails in it." "Don't worry, it doesn't!" Asriel exclaimed happily as he skipped, literally skipped, down the hall. I looked at my room, still an absolute disaster. Eh, I'll clean it later...probably.
Toriel greeted me in the living room, "There you are! We've been waiting for you to get up." She brought in the pie from the kitchen, it smelled delicious, much better than when me and Asriel tried making one. "We would just like to say that it has been a real blessing having you as part of our family, my child. Asriel is so happy, and so are me and Asgore. Before you came along, Asriel didn't really have that many friends. He was quite shy." I tried to imagine Asriel being shy. I could, but it just didn't seem like the Asriel I knew, though for some reason I got the feeling I used to know someone just like that. I decided to focus on the amazing smell that was making my mouth water, instead. "That has got to be the best smell ever! WAIT! No, second best. The best is chocolate." "I am glad you like it, my child. I ran out of cinnamon, so this is only a butterscotch pie." I smiled, "Well, I prefer cinnamon, but I wouldn't, like, turn up my nose at butterscotch or anything like that." Toriel laughed, "You know, it's funny, but somehow I knew you would say that!" At first my mind skipped over that comment, but then I remembered. Asriel knows me, Toriel knows me, who around here doesn't already know me? I must have been frowning, because Toriel asked me if something was wrong. I quickly put a smile back on and reassured Toriel that everything was fine. Toriel still looked a little uneasy, but that may have been my smile, I have been told that I look creepy when I smile sometimes.
Later, I was hanging out around the Ruins with Asriel. We had been joking around, picking bouquets and stuff, but it was time to leave. "Come on, Chara, if we're late, mom will kill us...Well, probably not kill us, but maybe a stern talking to." "You go on, I'll catch up." I said, I had just spotted a really pretty rock that I wanted to keep. "Ok, but don't stay long!" Asriel said as he walked out of sight. I bent over and picked up the rock. It was exceptionally smooth and was a light gray with purple streaks. I put it in my pocket and turned to leave. I stopped. Toriel was there. She looked terrible, there were cuts all over her body, and she was holding her side. She lifted her head to look at me, her eyes were full of sorrow. She tried to speak, but she stuttered at first. "Y... you... really hate me that much? Now I see who I was protecting by keeping you here. Not you... But them!" Then, to my horror, she collapsed and turned into dust. I must be having another nightmare! I tried pinching myself several times, but nothing happened. I broke down into tears. Now, I don't ever cry, ever, but this past month had been the best of my life, and Toriel was the best mom I could ever have asked for. I sat there for a few seconds before Asriel calling for me broke my trance. He appeared at the doors to the Ruins, "Chara! You hadn't come on and I heard someone crying...Woah, what happened to the doors?" I looked over, the doors were barely hanging on their hinges, and they were blackened as if from an explosion. Then Asriel noticed the pile of dust. "Wha-Chara?" He turned to look at me, but something caught his eye, it was Toriel's robe, exposed slightly in the pile of dust. Asriel froze, "No. No. No, no, no, no, NO! This can't be happening..." I tried to tell him I didn't do it, I didn't kill her, but he wasn't listening. He appeared to be having some kind of nervous breakdown. "NO! Not again...I...It's not my fault...I didn't mean to..." I rose and put my hand on his shoulder. He whirled around and yelled, "I DIDN'T WANT TO! I DIDN'T WANT TO KILL HER!" I stepped back, shocked, "You killed Toriel?" He recoiled and shook his head. "What? Oh...I'm sorry Chara, I...uh...well, yes..." I stepped back, my whole world was falling apart again. Asriel saw me, and hurriedly said, "But not today, I didn't do that! It's...It's hard to explain, I promise that I will after we figure out what is going on, but right now, we have to find out what happened." Just then I heard footsteps outside the doors. A voice, somehow familiar to me, wafted through the opening. "Old lady! Are you finally coming out of there? Cause if you are, I got some jokes that, tibia honest, are some of the most humerus around." The skeleton, Sans, stepped through the door. He opened his eyes and took in the scene before him. "You two?" He asked, his eye flashing blue. Then he noticed the pile of dust at our feet. His eyes narrowed, and blue flames erupted from his glowing eye. "You...You killed her? You killed the old lady? Ohhohoho, you are both in for some bad times™."
