"Why are you so nervous?" Sunhee whispered. "They'll love you. Don't be nervous."
"I'm not nervous," Kevin retorted. "Not at all."
She took his hand, turning him to face her. She placed a hand on his face. "And yet, you're shaking," she teased gently.
Kevin sighed, reaching forward and pulling her into his arms. She smiled. She knew she'd never get tired of his hugs.
"I'm meeting your parents for the first time," he said after a moment. "Of course I'm nervous. I'm terrified. What if they hate me and say we can't date?"
She couldn't help giggling, finding his nerves absolutely adorable. "They'll love you," she told him sternly. "How could they not?" She told him, looking up at his beautiful face.
"You're right, I am pretty irresistible," he said, winking at her.
"That's the spirit," she said, taking his hand and leading him into the apartment building, into the elevator and... soon they were in front of the apartment door. And suddenly she was also feeling nervous. "Ring the doorbell," she whispered to him.
"You ring it," he replied.
She swallowed nervously, quickly reaching forward and ringing the doorbell. The door opened in no time, revealing her parents.
"Come in!" her father said eagerly, ushering the two of them in. Both he and her mother gave each of them hugs in turn.
"Wow, you're even more handsome than Sunhee described," her mom gushed.
"Mom!" she complaining, feeling her cheeks turn pink. Kevin turn to her, a triumphant twinkle in his eyes.
"You talk about me?" he said happily.
"All. The. Time," her father told him, laughing. "It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard a lot about you."
"I'm sorry I wasn't able to come right away-"
"Child, why are you sorry?" her mother scolded him playfully. "Come to the sofa. I want to hear all about how you guys met and got close."
"We met after I hit him with a door," Sunhee told her mom, laughing. "At Mark's house."
"Are you a friend of Mark's?" her father asked.
"I work for Mark," Kevin said simply. "I work for him so I can pay my rent and pay my way through college."
"That's very admirable," her father said. "You're a hard working young man. I like that. So, how'd you and Sunhee get close?"
"Well," Kevin started. "We became friends after that. And we became closer after she moved in-"
"What?" her mother interrupted, her gaze turning cold as she looked at Sunhee. "You guys are living together?"
Sunhee scratched her head awkwardly. "Oops... did I not tell you?" she asked innocently, fully knowing that she hadn't. "I got kicked out of my house since I couldn't pay my rent. Kevin needed a new roommate, and I moved in."
Her father looked between the two of them. "I don't... I don't like that."
She sighed. "I assumed you wouldn't. But it was the best solution at the time, really."
"I can move out if it makes you more comfortable," Kevin said quickly.
Sunhee glared at him. "Excuse me? Says who? No, you won't. It was your place first. If anything, I'll move out."
Kevin shook his head, his expression serious. "I can't do that to you. I'll just live at Mark's until I find somewhere else."
"You are not living there," she snapped. "I'll go live there."
His eyes widened and he shook his head adamantly. "You can't go to Mark!" he protested, his voice raising.
She opened her mouth to say something, to argue some more, but stopped when she noticed that both of her parents were shaking with laughter.
"What's so funny?" she demanded, putting a hand on her hip.
"You two," her mother laughed. "Are cute."
"Kevin, come with me," her father said, trying to sound stern as he stood up. The effect was kind of ruined by the fact he was still laughing. "We have some things to talk about..."
