What Have I Done?
"Sara?" Stevie called out as soon as she and Tom walk through the door.
Sara came into view in the hallway and rushed over. "Mama..." she smiled and gave her mother a hug. She pulled away and said. "Um, daddy and John are here."
"Okay." Was all Stevie said.
Stevie reassured her hold on Tom's hand and the both of them followed Sara to the living room.
Lindsey and John stood up when they saw Stevie walk into the room. Lindsey smiled when he saw Stevie's face. Then Lindsey's eyes landed on Stevie's and Tom's linked hands. His smile quickly faded. At first he didn't think anything of it, they were best friends after all.
Stevie smiled a little and greeted John then Lindsey, all the while making sure her shawl stayed in place.
Lindsey took in Stevie's appearance and he soon felt relieved. He thought he was going to find her thinner since last he saw her because of how Sara had described Stevie's depression. But he saw her looking so healthy and very very beautiful. She was glowing.
They all take a seat and Lindsey said. "I'm sorry to just stop by without calling first but, John and I wanted to see how you were doing."
"Yes, Stevie. We were worried about you when Sara told us you weren't doing well." John said.
Stevie turned towards Sara and gave her a very discreet yet stern look. She was a little upset at Sara. Stevie didn't want Lindsey to know how she was doing or to know anything about what's going on in her life. Sara chewed her bottom lip nervously and looked away from her mother's stare.
Stevie sighed silently, turned back to Lindsey and said. "Well, thank you for coming. I wasn't doing well before but now, I've gotten some help that I needed. I'm in a better state of mind. Plus..." she looks over and smiled at Tom, he smiled back and Stevie continued. "...Tom has been by my side and he's been my rock." Tom gently squeezed her hand.
"Of course, I still have my days, but with Tom's help, I push through it."
Lindsey couldn't help but feel a bit jealous of Tom. But he kept his feelings inside.
Surprisingly, Stevie was able to have a casual conversation with Lindsey and John. With Tom by her side, she felt much more stronger than she had felt and she didn't feel any feelings towards Lindsey anymore. Well, she still did have feelings towards Lindsey, so it was crucial that Tom was right next to Stevie.
Tom was truly breaking down Stevie's walls she had built up and he felt the positive that their relationship would soon grow.
Twenty minutes later, Stevie was asking how Lindsey's and John's trip went. As John and Lindsey told Stevie about their trip, Christine and the twins walked into the house.
Christine walked into the living room first and was a bit shocked to see Lindsey and John sitting casually in the living room with Stevie.
"Hello." Christine said. "Is everything okay?"
Stevie turned towards Christine and said. "Yes. Everything is fine. Lindsey and John just stopped by to see how I was doing. Now we are just catching up."
"Dad!" Emma said excitedly. She rushes over to hug John and Amy follows close behind.
"Hello, my girls! I missed you." John said as he hugged his daughters.
"We missed you too." Amy said.
Amy and Emma then hugged Lindsey and all sat around for a while as they told everyone when they would be starting their college journey.
After a while, Amy and Emma excused themselves to put their things away from their shopping trip in their rooms. Sara volunteers to help them.
Christine decides to make everyone a cup of tea and John volunteers to help her. John and Christine have made to a point of their relationship where they could be good friends. They are now able to speak with one another and not have any ill feelings.
Lindsey stays behind with Stevie and Tom. It quiet for a moment then Lindsey asked Tom if he was working on any new music.
Tom replies and Stevie excuses herself for a moment.
Stevie walks to the downstairs bathroom. When she closes the door, she lets out a deep breath.
"It's not so bad, Stevie." She thought to herself. "Tom is really helping me keep calm, and Lindsey...I am finally feeling as if I can go on without him in my life. He hasn't noticed my bump, so that's a good thing too."
Stevie places a hand on her four and half month belly and smiles. She thinks of when Lindsey leaves and she will be home free. Lindsey wouldn't ever find out she is pregnant.
Back in the living room, Lindsey and Tom sat in silence when they were alone for a few seconds.
Lindsey couldn't keep to himself any longer. His jealousy got the best of him.
"So...how long have you and Stevie been an item?" Lindsey asked.
Tom raises an eyebrow and replies. "Stevie and I are not together. We are just friends. You know we've been friends for years. Nothing has changed."
"I know." Lindsey said. "And I also know that you have feelings for Stevie for all these years. I've seen the look in your eyes when you look at her back then and I cans roll see that same look now. You want her."
"I have always respected yours and Stevie's marriage. I never acted on those feelings." Tom said as he sat up. "I have just always been Stevie's friend and of course, I am here for her now more than ever."
Lindsey glared at Tom and Tom glared back.
Tom continued. "And so what if I had said Stevie and I were together? What would you have done?"
Lindsey locks his jaw then answers. "Nothing. Stevie is free to be with whom ever she wants and I just don't want anyone to hurt her."
Tom looked at Lindsey and said. "If she will have me someday, then I will know how to treat her and I would never hurt her. I would treat her with so much love and respect."
"I loved her and I respect her!" Lindsey said, his voice rising a bit.
Tom couldn't help but chuckle humorlessly. "You loved and respected her? Please, you cheated on Stevie for ten years and asked for a divorce. Yeah, I can see just how much you loved and respected her."
Lindsey stood up, his anger rising within him. "You don't know what it's like to live in a lie! To not be who you are. Yes, I fucked up and should have been honest with Stevie. But, but I couldn't hurt her."
Tom stood up and said. "But you did. You should have been honest in the beginning. By waiting as long as you did, you left Stevie with a broken heart. But hey, that's why I'm here. I'm going to help repair what you destroyed of Stevie's heart and by the time you know it, she'll never shed another tear for you ever again."
Lindsey snapped and lunged at Tom. He punched Tom across his face then Tom punched Lindsey back.
There was scuffle and both men ended up on the floor. Tom got the upper hand and was on top of Lindsey hitting him.
"What the fuck, Buckingham?!" Tom yelled.
Lindsey suddenly stopped Tom's punches and he was able to flip himself on top of Tom. Lindsey's nose was bleeding.
"Stevie will never be yours!" Lindsey said, as he punched Tom's face twice.
They then roll around the living room floor, then running into a side table that had a vase of flowers on top. The vase topples over, falls to the floor and breaks.
Stevie was coming out of the bathroom, wrapping her shawl back around her body when she heard glass shattering. She gasps and forgets about her shawl. She lets it fall to the ground then runs to the living room.
Same with John and Christine who run from the kitchen and into the living room.
Stevie's eyes grow wide when she sees Lindsey and Tom fighting with each other. Their faces bloody.
"Lindsey! Tom! Stop!" Stevie said, her heart pounding.
John and Christine stop beside Stevie and both have their eyes wide. Lindsey and Tom are too focused on hitting each other that they don't hear Stevie.
"I said stop!" Stevie yells again as she rushes to stop the two men from fighting.
"Stevie, be careful!" Christine shouts.
By this time, Amy, Emma and Sara hear the commotion coming from downstairs and now are standing in the doorway of the living room watching the scene before them.
Stevie panics when she sees more blood coming from Tom's face and she reaches for Lindsey to stop him.
"Lindsey, I said stop!" Stevie yells again. She touches Lindsey's shoulder to stop him.
John and Christine rush forward to help Stevie, but before they could reach her, Lindsey throws off Stevie's hand violently causing her to stumble back and lose her balance. She then falls to the ground.
"Oh my god! Stevie!" Christine rushes over to Stevie instead.
Stevie stays laying on the floor stunned for a few seconds; tears dream down her face, her body shaking with fear and her breathing increases.
Suddenly, the two men stop when they hear Christine calling Stevie's name in a panicked voice. Lindsey was mid punch, and he looks over and sees Stevie laying on the floor.
"Stevie!" He says as he lets Tom go.
Stevie curls onto her side and holds her belly. She looks up at Christine and says. "Chris! It...it hurts! Oh, god, it hurts! I can't lose her!"
"It's going to be okay, Stevie." Christine said trying to remain calm. She places a hand on Stevie's shoulder, Christine could feel Stevie shaking. "We're going to get the both of you some help." Christine looks over at Sara who was sobbing by the doorway. "Sara, call an ambulance, now!"
Sara jumps into action and rushes over to the phone. She dials 911 and tells them what happened.
"They are on their way!" Sara said as she rushed back to the living room once she hung up the phone.
Tom rushes over to Stevie and holds her hand. Stevie squeezes it tightly. She looks into his eyes and said. "I can't lose her, Tom. If I lose her...I know I won't be able to survive it."
"Shhhh...you're not going to lose her." Tom said comfortingly. "She has a guardian angel looking out for her and I know that Dylan won't let anything happen to his baby sister."
Lindsey looks on stunned. "Baby sister?" He thinks to himself. "Stevie said, she can't lose her. She won't be able to survive it."
Lindsey then takes in the scene; Stevie with her hands on her belly. Without her shawl, and now her hands on her belly, Lindsey can now clearly see Stevie's bump.
Lindsey's mouth falls open when all the pieces fall into place. "Oh god...Stevie's pregnant." He whispers to himself. "What have I done?"
