Chapter 12

Will's mind got in a quarrel between walking over to the person to see wether he could help them, and getting back to his room and pretending none of this ever happened. After a second, that seemed like an eternity, for so many thoughts had passed his mind, Will's helper side won over and he headed towards the person. When he recognised who it was, his breath hitched, but he managed to keep calm. "Thomas?", he asked carefully. "What...?"
Tom looked at William, not even trying to force a smile, or stop the tears that were still running down his cheeks silently. They had started running all on their own and he knew they would stop somewhen, just as sudden as they had come.
William's frown grew. "What happened?", he asked, obviously trying to get a look on Tom's arm, but the young man shook his head. "It's nothing", he stated in a shaky voice, but the look on his face and the way he pressed his arm to his chest told differently. Tom almost didn't notice William's quick movement at first, due to his blurred sight, but suddenly he felt a strong grip on his hand that forced him to hold out his arm. He didn't buck when William pushed up his sleeve, just winced slightly and bit his teeth together when it touched his injury.
Will felt like throwing up as he saw the burned skin and flesh. The wound wasn't deep enough to hurt the veins, but would most definitely leave a nasty scar. That's when he noticed the other mark on Thomas's wrist, but decided not to ask him about it. He simply took a deep breath and swallowed heavily, before looking up at Thomas's face again.
"Shall I help you? I can try to take care of it a little. My father's a doctor and thought me a little."
The last part was a flat out lie, but nobody had to know, right?
Tom nodded slightly, surprised by William's friendliness. Usually the people would just tell him not to get himself into trouble and then leave him to take care of it himself. But on the other hand, this guy was new here, and didn't know about the way things went in these streets. "That would be... nice." He tried to cover the fact that he had to search for a fitting word, but nevertheless Will noticed with ease. He had studied people long enough, if not officially, and by now managed to notice the indicators for their feeling really well. The only one he couldn't actually figure out was himself. Shit happens, was, what he usually thought in the moments when he realised it once more that he again didn't know what he actually felt. Like right now.
William just nodded plainly. "Fine. Then let's get you to my room, I'd suggest."
Tom gave an approving smile and off they went.

Chris shook his head as he looked at Lenny. "I'm so sorry you had to watch, kiddo", he said in a soothing tone and Lenny gulped. "I-It's okay", he stuttered, even though it was obvious, that it wasn't. "I mean... he... he..."
Lenny's lower lip trembled and he couldn't hold back his tears any longer.
Chris hugged the small figure in front of him. "Hey, shhh, he's gonna be fine. You know him, right?"
But somehow this sounded more like he had to convince himself
Not Lenny, not anyone, only himself.
