Chapter Five
You make your way towards the English classroom since it was the first day you were going to have writing practice with Kakashi. And how excited you were for it. Yet again, Kiba was getting annoyed at you for disappearing during lunch again. And if he knew you had spent both days with Kakashi, he'd most likely throw some inappropriate comments. And you really wanted avoid that due to your blush giving you away. You arrive at the class and spot Kakashi surprisingly sleeping on his desk. His left arm was under his head as his right one was in mid air.
You squint your eyes as you make your way in quietly, not wanting to wake him up at all. As you found yourself in front of him, you bend down to be on the level of his chair and slowly lean your fingers on Kakashi's mask. Your heart rate increases immensely, beating harder than drums. You land your fingers on his mask softly, and pull it down gently.
Until his eyes shoot open and snatches your hands, causing you to gasp at the sudden action. You were way too nervous to even say some words of apology to him. Kakashi's eyes squint at you along with a smirk that was noticeable under his mask.
"Sneaky aren't you?" He says as he lets go of your hands and sits up, backing a bit way from you. You bite your lip and curse lowly at yourself because of your failure. Standing up, you grab a chair and pull it towards the desk, sitting down quickly.
"You can't blame my curiosity, can you?" Kakashi shrugs at your words and leans onto the desk, resting his head on his right hand. "No one has ever seen my face except my parents." He says, causing you to narrow your eyes at him.
Your heart began to sink at the thought of him actually having low self esteem. Many people underestimate how much your own words about yourself influences your opinions. But you could his nose and lips were beautiful with the tightness of his mask. His teeth couldn't be as terrible to hide.
"Do you consider yourself ugly to hide your face so much?" You ask, quickly seeing a look of surprise take over him. But following it was his grinning eyes. "I've never actually been asked that. There are just some things I like to keep to myself. Including the memories my face holds." You bite down your tongue as you realize that you went a bit far. The last thing you wanted was to make him feel uncomfortable.
"Anyway. What genre do you want me to start with?" You ask him, seeing his eyes turn dull as usual. He looks down at his book and scratches his neck, thinking. He crosses his arms and lays them onto the desk.
"Let's start with what you're worse at. And it needs to be a short story. Novels will be homework. How about horror?" Your shoulders then lowered in sadness, knowing that horror definitely is your worse. It was just so hard for you to intrigue people and make them feel creeped out about everything that was near them. Sighing, you nod and bring out a notebook specifically for this. Kakashi sees your reaction and gives a small laugh, ruffling your hair. "Don't worry. We all have weaknesses, I believe in you (Y/N)." He says as his hand slipped away. Your face was completely red hearing him say those words. And of course you enjoyed his hair ruffling. Any contact really.
"Make it a pediatric asylum theme. Kids are scary in general, you'll be fine." You laugh a bit at his comment and nod, trying your best to encourage yourself.
Knowing that the beginning is the hardest and longest time to write part of a short story, you begin brainstorm quickly. Remembering all types if horror movies you've ever seen. You had an hour to write this completely and it very much worried you. As your train of thought traveled onto scary series, you remember one that has an asylum. Not specifically for children but it was still gonna be very useful. The images of the nuns and ways of how the patients acted came to mind. And so you believed that the scariest name of them all could be a character called Emily. Such innocent names brought the most horror of them all.
With the name of your little girl, you begin to write away. You decide to make the little girl have a condition called sleep paralysis, in which she sees terrible monsters and demons. And so once you thought of the character and what exactly made her creepy, the story began to flow on it's own. Your hand was just moving on it's own. And even though you weren't very experienced in this genre, you felt like you were doing pretty well.
But what you didn't know was how Kakashi was enjoying this. Watching you work away, pouring your heart onto the white papers. He was never one to get entertained by most things that are considered interesting but he could already feel that you were a bit different. The fact that you're going through such a difficult time makes him believe that you were going to become an even better writer. A writer that has gone through struggle and loneliness tend to move their learning pace faster and faster. Because if you've felt tragedy, you can make a reader feel your very own with some powerful literature.
He was complimenting you in his mind as he continued watching you write nonstop. And loved to see you reading a dictionary every five seconds to give your vocabulary an upgrade for each sentence.
After all the scribble and erasing that was done and 48 minutes, you were done. You smile at your achievement and hand over the notebook at Kakashi. "Done." You say, receiving a smile from the male. He takes the notebook and begins to read The Rontor. His eyes study the title as the name continues repeating in his head. Unusual it was. And so he reads.
As Emily's eyes open, she realizes the heavy weight on her chest and the numbing she felt in her body. Not having control over any of it whatsoever. She already knew well that this was the time that she would meet once again her old friend, Rontor...
Kakashi read, his eyes taking in each and every word. For it to be your worse genre, it really wasn't bad at all. The only problem he considered was the vocabulary. Because whenever someone thinks about this category, the ideal writer is Edgar Allan Poe or H. P. Lovecraft. They were both fantastic horror writers but obviously Kakashi knew that his student wouldn't be as good if she's just begun with horror. When he finished, he put down the notebook and gave a genuine smile at you. Causing your heart to race at his face.
"Very well done, (Y/N). It had a very good plot. The despair Emily felt was very intense. The only critique I could actually give you is the vocabulary. I know you feel comfortable this way with it's simplicity but the horror category is known to have words from the 1800's. The best way you could achieve letting them flow out of you is reading texts from that time. Like from Edgar Allan Poe, H. P. Lovecraft, Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley, Henry James. You read some things from those guys, and I promise you'll become as creepy as them." He says, causing your whole insides light up as bright as a christmas tree. His words were meaning so much to you and you definitely agreed with him. You knew that the vocabulary was the general problem for you. And once you understand your fault, you can always make it better.
"Thank you, Kakashi! I actually enjoyed writing it. And I'm planning to read more of Edgar Allan Poe's books for it." You say as you take back the notebook and hold it onto your chest tightly. Looking at the time, you sigh in satisfaction. It was definitely a great start and even though you already knew your faults of horror fiction, it was good for you for Kakashi to assure your insecurities. So you could get better at it quickly and with motivation. Kakashi stands and looks down on you as his hand ruffles your hair once again, making you breathe in how much you were liking how it felt. Even though it seemed like an action to do on a child, it was an act of kindness that you appreciated very much.
"Now, coffees or smoothies? My treat." Your eyes light up as you clap your hands together, already tasting the fruits in your mouth. You stand up as you put away your belongings. "I'm feeling a bit fruity." You say as you walk ahead of Kakashi. Having him right behind you. You turn around, walking backwards, and land a questioning finger on your bottom lip. "From where though--" You're interrupted as you felt your foot trip on the small rubber step that was on the doorway. And of course, they grey haired man that was already distracted with his eyes upon his book, he doesn't realize soon enough and trips with your foot as well. Being very unlikely of him.
And at the moment, you were suffering over the pain your bottom felt but was quickly distracted as you faced Kakashi. His eyes widened as well as yours as he stared at you in shock. He luckily landed his hands on the floor along with his knees. But was still only about an inch away from your face. You thought you'd have a heart attack at it's speed, bringing butterflies into your stomach. You began to study his eyes carefully as he did yours, along with you enjoying his smell completely. Feeling the urge to pull down his mask, your hands reach up to it slowly, noticing the heat in yours cheeks. Once your fingers touch his mask, he quickly closes his eyes and grabs your hands.
"Are you alright?" He asks with his eyes shut still. You then realize how obnoxious you were being and pull your hands away. Nodding quickly, you look away, hoping he doesn't notice the blush on your face. But by the distance he was away from it, you already knew that he could tell easily. He soon stands up and pulls you to your feet along with himself.
"Sorry." You simply say, not daring to give him a single look at this point. "It's fine." Kakashi says as you bite down your lip and think about going for a smoothie being a good idea or not. As awkward as it was right now, you definitely didn't want it to get worse. Along with the fact that your happiness melted away once you realize that your crush was something totally impossible to get. Calling yourself an idiot mentally, you shake your head at him as your heart sinked.
"I'll be going now. Don't worry about the smoothies but thank you." You say as you turned away, and headed onto your car quickly.
Even if Kakashi had feelings for you, you didn't want to get him into a serious situation like losing his job or even going to jail. You were beginning to care too much about him to let it happen. You just had to try your best to keep things at a student-teacher level. Nothing else.
