CHAPTER 1
I was sitting in class, waiting for the lunch bell to ring. We were doing math.
Ugh, I hate this.
Our school has never been the most interesting. There's not very much drama ever, and everyone just follows the rules.
We are supposed to be getting a new student this week.
I hope she makes the school more interesting.
When that announcement came on yesterday, that was my immediate thought.
Finally, the bell rang. Everyone shot up from their seats and rushed into the hallways. As I walked out, I saw my best friend, Kai. He always waited for me at the water fountain by the library which in this case, was right across the hall from my classroom. He immediately saw me and waved me over.
"Oka! You're finally here," Kai exclaimed.
"I didn't take that long, Kai," I huffed.
"What do you mean? I've been waiting for AGES!" Kai said, jokingly. I rolled my eyes at him.
"Whatever, let's go sit outside and eat," I began walking towards my locker to grab my lunch. Kai already had his, so he trailed along behind me. I grabbed my lunch and we began walking, once again.
As we made it to the door, Kai pushed it open letting in a chilling winter breeze. The air was so cold we could see our breath even when we weren't outside the door yet.
"Wow!" Kai gasped. "It's super cold!" He looked over at me, I could see him shivering. "No kidding," I responded. We walked down the snow-covered paths toward the outdoor eating area. No one else was there because it was so cold. We sat down and opened up our lunches. I opened mine to a tuna sandwich, carrot sticks and a kool-aid jammer. Kai got really good stuff in his lunch. Garden salad, cookies and fruit juice. He grabbed his cookies and waved them in front of my face.
"Oh c'mon, Kai. You don't need to wave your food at me," I scoffed. I looked back down at my food and began snacking on what I had. My mind slowly started drifting off. I kept eating my food as I stared off into the distance.
Suddenly, I snapped back. I looked over at Kai, as he was packing his stuff up.
"Hey, you're finally back! I'm guessing you were just off in your own little world there?" Kai looked over at me, smiling. "Yeah, I guess you're right," I began packing my things away too.
"Well, c'mon, let's get back to class. We wouldn't want to be late," Kai nudged my arm.
"Oh yes, wouldn't want to put a dent in your perfect record," I teased. We walked back towards the doors with everyone else.
