LEXI'S POV

"Talking" 'Sign Language'

(A/N) Sorry if this chapter is crappy but I am writing this at about midnight or so, on account of multiple nightmares for one and a half weeks or so. Again Sorry but hopefully this is halfway decent and you guys like it.

My dad and I headed to the store to get snacks and pizza for tonight, because the 3 guys are coming and staying the night at my house. My dad had gave me $40 and sent me inside as he wanted me to do my own shopping and budgeting; this was our compromise. I quickly went around to the freezer and got 2 supreme pizzas. I then went and got 2 bags of chips then 2 litres of soda, Coke and Dr. Pepper.

I went through the checkout to see someone I didn't expect to check me out; Phil. I quickly pulled my hair up and threw on sunglasses and figured I looked different enough to not let him suspect. He just checked me out and didn't suspect me.

"Have a good day." He said in a monotoned voice. I just nodded my head and walked out to the car.

"I am going to work again tonight alright?" Although my dad told me like it was a question but I knew he was going with or without me wanting him to go into work. "You'll be fine you have Jack, Joe and Dan that are coming over for the night." I just nodded knowing that having 3 friends that are able to stay over whenever, is going to help my dad go to work whenever.

I didn't want to take out my phone and headphone; my dad's car radio was stolen today so now we just sat in silence for the rest of the car ride. When we got home I texted to guys telling them that I am home and they could head over. Two minutes after I sent out the text I heard the doorbell and I ran to the door to expect Jack, but to my surprise it was not only Jack but Joe and Dan.

'Have you guys been at Jack's house waiting for me to text you?'

"Mayyyyyybe?" Joe asked as if I didn't know or suspect them at all. I just rolled my eyes and motioned them for them to come into my house. I just walked upstairs and Jack followed me while I looked over my shoulder and saw Dan and Joe were hesitant to do anything.

"Come on you losers let's go!" Jack called down the stairs to them and they followed.

'So on account of last night I think it would be cool to either play a get to know you game or we all go completely vulnerable and just stay open to any question, having them answer no matter what.' I signed as we all sat in my room, on my bed. The boys sat pondering for a few minutes, deciding whether to play a silly elementary school game or to go completely vulnerable to everyone.

"I choose the second option." Joe decided first and the other two nodded agreeing with him.

'I am going to ask the first question, kay?' The others nodded probably scared of what I would ask, so I decided to ask a not so deep question. 'What are your guys sexuality?' The three boys finally let out their breaths they had been holding in.

"Straight as a bendy straw," Dan said first not surprising me.

"Bi with a preference of guys," Jack told us.

"Bi with preference of girls," Joe finally said.

'Good to know that I could see all of you with a guy or chance of a girl. Ok Jack's turn.'

"Ok so Dan if you absolutely had to date anyone here who would it be?" Jack asked as if he was asking Dan to pick a favorite between them.

"Hey I know where you are going with this Seán McLoughlin! You are trying to get me to choose a favorite between you two!" I just started to laugh silently. I fell off my bed laughing, crying, and wheezing.

"Are you ok?" I heard a concerned Jack call after me. I signed yes right over the bed where they could see my hand but as soon as they all had looked over the bed like cartoon characters in a doorway, I started laughing all over again. (A/N I finally had fallen asleep so now I am editing and continuing next day) As soon as I had stopped having a laugh attack we had continued our game with Dan asking the next question.

"Hey Lex do you ever wish you had your voice back?" Dan's question intrigued me and after much contemplation and thinking, I finally answered.

'No because If I did I probably wouldn't move to this school and I wouldn't have met this little family.' I heard an audible awe across my room from the boys.

"Mmm-kay Jackaboy your turn to ask." I heard Dan tell him. We were taking the game light-heartedly and I was kinda hoping it would stay this way.

"Ok Lex. What happened to your mom?" He asked and I feel the color drain from my face as I looked down to my blue colored with black flowers patterned duvet. The room suddenly felt unsettlingly quiet as if a paper moving would make the largest noise.

'The same thing that happened to my voice.' I figured they would get the message. I then stood up and opened my laptop that was on my desk. I opened a saved folder of videos on my laptop and found the one I was looking for. It was one of me and my mom when I was barely 7; I was just learning how to play some songs on the piano for accompaniment while singing. My dad was filming while I played and sang, my mom was playing what now in my guitar and sang. I started to play the intro of Ed Sheeran's piano part of Tenerife Sea. The boys started to gather around as the video started to play.

(Mom):

(Lex):

I started crying halfway through the video; I knew Joe noticed because he put his hand on my shoulder. When the video was done, I opened a Google Document that I wrote on once every year.

Lexi and Mirabel got into a car accident yesterday. This caused Lexi to permanently lose her voice. Mirabel however passed away; the biggest impact was in her side (mainly the car door) it was smashed in. She broken a lot of ribs causing punctures in her lungs. Lex will make a full recovery and will go back to school in August of 2009 so she will be able to learn sign language. ~ Dr. Stewart

Mom I miss you. It has been a one month since the accident. I started to learn sign language so I could communicate. It is hard to learn 2 languages at once. Dad says I don't have to go to 2nd grade next year so I can learn sign language. I know it will be hard but if I learn as fast as I am I will know as much as I need for 2nd grade by the end of next summer. I will go to 2nd grade then. I love you. ~ Lexi

Hello again Mom. I skipped going to school this year. It was for the best, so I know a ton of sign language now. Every summer I will learn more for the next year so I won't miss anymore years of school...

They continued on some were me taking out rage, others being really sad. But they were all checkins I wrote to my mom. I kept the document open for a few minutes then closed it. I opened a new tab and typed in the name of the poem.

'This is the poem that I was thinking we could do for English.' I said completely ignoring what just happened.

"I am sorry I asked Lex." I heard Jack say.

'It's fine. You didn't know.' I started to play an audio of the poem that the writer had made. Afterwards we agreed that it would be a good poem to use.

'Let's go get pizza!'
