Chapter 21
"Is Taehyung still asleep?" Yoongi pretended to be ignorant of the fact that his friend had already left while he walked into the living room with Ari following him from behind, closing up better the robe she was wearing.
"No, he actually left a few minutes before you came." She informed him and he left his face to portray some momentary surprise.
"You're kidding me. I woke up earlier just to find him. I had something to talk to him about." He went on with his act uttering one lie after the other, his right hand reaching to his neck and ruffling the back of his hair a bit, as part of him was still awkward.
"Was it something serious? If we were to call him to tell him to come back, I am sure he would. He shouldn't have driven too far yet." She offered him a solution even though he knew that Taehyung wouldn't get back even if she called him, especially today, firstly because he had a teachers' meeting early in the morning and secondly because if any of the two were to immediately interfere in the actions of the other it would mean that they are afraid and in a sense admit loss.
"No, it doesn't matter. It was just a matter of work." He answered her and paused, turning his head toward the kitchen, thinking to use it as an excuse to stay longer.
"You said that you left home early right? I have breakfast ready so...if you have not eaten yet" Ari couldn't help but offer him since he had already seen because she didn't want to be rude or make him feel unwelcomed.
"Are you sure you don't mind?" He tried to show his considerate side as he had already taken one or two steps closer to the kitchen, the aroma of the food breaking his nose.
"Feel at home, it's totally fine." Ari smiled at him before they both walked to the table a took a seat the one opposite from each other, for she hadn't eaten breakfast yet either.
"At home, I accompany my breakfast with a sweet kiss at the beginning of each bite and by the end of it, sometimes I end up in bed again." He uttered matter of factly, making Ari choke on the bite she had just placed in her mouth.
Dae and he sure are wild huh...
"Well if that's how it is then maybe you shouldn't feel so much at home after all." She smiled a bit as she practically retreated from her previous statement, yet the look that he gave her made her instantly feel a shift in the atmosphere that made her slightly tense.
He laughed soon after however, making her feel relieved again that he hadn't gotten mad with her or something.
As they returned to eating and silence fell between them, that small joke ended up running in her mind, and growing unhelpful to her to a point as she couldn't help but recall some old memories.
She and Dae used to have a small crash on them at the beginning of their time. Yet she had had a crush on Yoongi and not Taehyung who she was currently dating. Both her and Dae had ended up being with the opposite man they crashed over back then. That small laugh of his made her recall how she and Dae had once argued over whose smile was better among the guys, her insisting on Yoongi's so much back then. It was ridiculous and hilarious to think of it now.
Of course, these thoughts belong to the past and now neither of them sees the other boyfriend of the other in that way. And neither they should.
---change of set---
Seon was pacing in and out of her kitchen waiting for Jungkook to come and eat his breakfast before going to work.
She was very anxious because from the moment she woke up, all that went through her mind was guilt and the need, to be honest with him. She had to tell him before it gets too late. She could no longer bear the weight in her consciousness.
It didn't matter if she was really crazy or not, nor did it matter if she had cheated on him with someone other than his brother. All that matters was the fact that she did an injustice to him and could not forgive herself for it as such an act was out of her character.
Never in her life had she imagined that she would do such a thing and act in such a way. If someone had asked her a long time ago what she would do in such a case she would surely say with certainty that she would never marry someone who was not sure of her feelings for him and of course something like infidelity wouldn't be forgiven by her. Drunk or whatever other excuse that there could be, it just wasn't acceptable.
So imagine how someone who has had and still has such beliefs, feels when they themselves trampled on them without even understanding the why. How much her self-image had broken along with the delusional certainty that she knew herself well.
"My baby." Jungkook's voice stopped her footsteps from pacing and her heart started pounding as soon as he appeared in her field of vision.
"I'm sorry but I won't eat today. I got a call to go immediately because something urgent happened." He informed her before hurriedly kissing his beloved's lips and then taking off.
"But-but, Jungkook wait one moment!" She called him but he was already at the door giving her a sweet smile before saying "Goodbye tonight. I will miss you ~" and closed the door behind him leaving her speechless, with tears of suffocation that didn't take long to form in her eyes.
Desperately her orbs watched the now closed door, wishing for someone to get her out of this hell into which she had entered even if it meant condemnation for her. Everything would be acceptable as long as she was to get rid of this weight of remorse from her back.
--- time skip ---
You were relieved of the weight of stress that had fallen on your shoulders this morning, as something seemed to have gone wrong with an agreement that the company was supposed to close today, making everyone be in a visible rush that allowed you to chill instead in your corner.
As a newcomer, you had no reason to get involved nor did you know how to handle such issues but also didn't need to know since it wasn't your responsibility.
Despite that you kept your ears sharp, listening to the chats that were coming back and forth from the workers around you, that were praying for their heads, foreseeing Jungkook's wrath related to the issue.
The thought that whatever the problem is, was apparently serious enough for his workers to have him capable of start firing people had worried you a little but yet again he was grown enough to know better and make his own decisions.
"Y/N! Take this to the CEO's office." Your supervisor suddenly ordered you as he hastily throw an envelope at your desk and walked off, disappearing from your view before you even got the chance to utter anything.
After leaving a long exhale, you stood from your chair, inwardly annoyed over the fact that he got you involved and had basically obligated you to do a chore that was out of your jurisdiction. You were hired to write articles not become a delivery of files but apparently, every newcomer was bound to be pushed around on general errands sooner or later.
Once you arrived at Jungkook's office, to your surprise his female secretary who was always at the entrance was missing from her seat and some loud voices could be heard coming from his office even though the door was closed.
Judging by the tone of his voice you assumed that Jungkook was not in the quietest phases of his life and for some reason that made you briefly hesitate to knock on his door but you had to hand over the envelope as you were told.
After a deep inhale and straightening your posture, you walked up to the glassy door and lightly knock on it, only to wait for a few seconds and slowly pushed it open despite the fact that none had told you to enter.
Once you were inside, his voice sounded so much louder that made you assume that he must have not even heard your little knock.
"Excuse me..." You uttered in an attempt to keep good manners but no one noticed your existence as everyone had their heads down while Jungkook was talking.
"I don't care, go cut your throat! What do you mean, you don't know. Your job is to know! For this, you are paid !!" He slapped his hand on the desk once and twice making everyone's bodies tremble with sudden terror as well as your eyes grow wide at the unexpected sound.
Jungkook left a deep breath out as the workers before him weren't saying anything back. His hand proceeded to run through his hair angrily as his tongue pocked the inner part of his cheek.
"You have 15 minutes to bring me the information I need and a full report on the new owner of the company. You know very well that it will be a mess if we enter the meeting empty-handed." His tone calmed a little as he let his body sit down in his chair.
Most of the people who were there started to scatter at a fast pace leaving only his male secretary in the room and you whom he had not yet noticed.
"Shall I bring you a chamomile, sir?" Asked his secretary in a low voice, his eyes still on the floor.
"Disappear from my sight right now!" He rose his voice at him, making the man leave the room quickly with his head bowed down for obviously his Boss needed a bit of time to himself to calm down.
"Emm, I think the chamomile was not such a bad idea." You reluctantly decided to speak once alone with him, approaching his desk with cautious steps.
"What are you doing here?" It was all he told you while you stretched out your arm and placed the file you were holding at the side of his desk.
"Fine, you can go." He dismissed you coldly, still obviously charged with the whole situation.
Today he was supposed to sign a deal with a company with which they supposedly had everything work out and only the signs were left to fall. It was a secured bag and he had worked hard to get it to that point but at the last minute, the owner of the company had fallen ill and died, and the company ended up changing hands as it was passed down to the son.
The fact that the previous owner died was not a big surprise since he was very old but the fact that the news were one month old and no one had been informed of it had made his blood boil. He went on a honeymoon for a month and they had all started forgetting what their jobs were apparently.
"I said you can go." He repeated himself as soon as he saw that you hadn't moved from your spot.
"I know you're on you aren't at your best and I honestly don't want to make you worse but you should not behave with the staff like that. You are stressing them out." You uttered the obvious, for you had felt a bit bad for them and it had seemed unfair to you that he was yelling at them in this way
"Do you want to be the next one I will stress out mayhaps?" He grew his piercing gaze at you, making you feel instantly intimidated.
"No. I'm just saying that you'll definitely find a solution without having to shout. I know you can do it." You broke eye contact with him while trying to remain casual however he burst into a peal of laughter to your surprise.
"What are you laughing about?" You gave him a puzzled for you couldn't understand what was it that you had said that he found funny.
"You avoided my eyes like a scared little lamb. So you too can be tamed huh?" He commented with a smile that beamed with satisfaction. A thing that instantly got on your nerves.
"What are you even talking about? I am not afraid of you. I was just trying to advise you so you won't need to behave like a brute." You replied as you crossed your arms over your chest, your eyes glaring daggers at him which only won one more wave of laughter out of him before he was interrupted by the door of his office that opened.
"I've found some information Sir but I don't know if it will be useful." His secretary approached him with a paper at hand, which Jungkook snatched out of him and started reading it
"Ladies man?!!" He exclaimed, as his eyes halted on that certain labelling then he looked at his secretary in confusion.
"The new owner of that company seems to be very fond of women Sir."
"Oh! That sure is something we can take advantage of!" You commented enthusiastically as an idea instantly popped into your head, making the gazes of the two men fall on you in anticipation of explaining further what exactly was going on in that devious mind of yours.
