Set it free
The omega stormed inside of the house, the door slamming against the wall as he fled inside, unable to do anything but run and keep running. Footsteps were heard behind him, trying to catch up with him. A voice called out. "Tae!"
Taehyung shook his head and marched on, his eyes already fixated on his bedroom door. He could hear the front door shut – presumably Yoongi's work – when he barged into the bedroom. The omega dove underneath the bed to get out his suitcase and he dropped it onto the bed before angrily zipping it open.
The alpha had reached his bedroom and now and tried grabbing Taehyung's hand to make him stop whatever he was doing but the omega gathered all of his strength to shove him away. "Fuck off." He spat and resumed opening his closet and throwing the pile of sweaters onto the bed.
Jungkook anxiously watched his mate pack his bags, his fingers twitched by his side, too confused to know what to do. "No- you can't leave." The alpha croaked out. He felt a presence behind him and knew Yoongi was now at the door, watching the scene take place. "Where are you going?"
"Home".
That one word froze Jungkook until he uttered, "Taehyung- I thought-"
"That you were my home?" The omega spun on his heels, eyes ablaze when he caught the other's stare. "Yes, you used to be but now, I don't know anything anymore. There's one thing I do know and that is that Seoul is not my fucking home. It was a bad decision to come here, follow you, without thoroughly thinking about what I wanted to do."
He turned back to continue stuffing all of his belongings into his bags. Jungkook and Yoongi watched him do so in silence. Jungkook was too struck to say anything and Yoongi carefully examined the scene, knowing he should let it unfold without his meddling.
Taehyung pushed past both of them to go into the bathroom and get the remaining things he brought to Seoul. When he stuffed his toothbrush into the bag, he finally looked up to Jungkook, his eyes softening ever so slightly. "I know I can't blame that on you. I was a lovesick puppy trying to follow its owner around but I now see that I have to start living my own life the way I want it, and my life is not in Seoul".
"I-I understand." Jungkook finally said, dropping his head. His hands flew to fumble with his sweater. "I just wanted to explain the situation to you."
"About how you met up with your fated mate without telling me?" Taehyung scoffed. "You could've just told me Jungkook. I literally told you I'd be fine with you meeting her but then you go and meet her behind my back? Why?"
The alpha tilted from one foot to the other and gulped. "I know I was against meeting her but I actually ran into her again when I went Christmas shopping to get you a present. She helped me pick one out and I decided I should at least talk to her properly." Jungkook sat himself down onto the bed. "I know I should have told you but after what happened with Leedo- I didn't know how to bring it up."
"It hurts me Jungkook." Taehyung replied, eyes not meeting his as he brought his suitcase down from the bed.
"I know-"
"No, you don't know." Taehyung interrupted before taking a deep breath at seeing the other's startled expression. "I'm not upset at you meeting her, I'm upset at you thinking you can't tell me something like that. You should know me better than that."
With the packed suitcase now ready to go, he started making his way out of the house. Jungkook jumped up from the bed, about to follow Taehyung to maybe try and make him stay, but a hand placed itself on his chest and he met Yoongi's gaze.
"I think you should let him go Jungkook." The boy spoke, glancing over his shoulder to watch Taehyung wait for him by the front door. "For now at least."
Jungkook glanced from the hand on his chest to Yoongi's gaze and he heard himself asking; "Why did you come here?"
The hand slipped from his chest and Yoongi took a step backward. "Because I knew Taehyung was having a hard time living here. From the phone calls we had, it was easy to sense he wasn't happy with his life."
"It'll be better for him" Yoongi added when he saw the dejected look in Jungkook's eyes. "You're not a bad kid Jungkook, and I understand you don't want him to go, but it's better for him if he leaves."
"I should have looked after him." Jungkook shook his head. "I'm his alpha, I should have noticed."
"You may be his alpha but you're also just a boy trying to live his life in college. You can't give that up for Taehyung, just like he shouldn't give up his life by staying here." Yoongi tried showing the other a comforting smile. "We should go now. I'll text you when we get home."
Jungkook nodded, knowing what the other was saying made a lot of sense, although he couldn't help but feel as if he had failed Taehyung. He should have noticed something- he actually did notice something but he had brushed it off.
He had gotten a lot more tired lately, getting out of bed was becoming harder and his appetite had diminished as well. Only now did he come to the realization that those emotions had not been his own, but Taehyung's instead. Taehyung's declining mental health had been subtly affecting his as well, but he never cared to ask him about it.
He was the epitome of a bad alpha.
With one last glance in the omega's direction, he watched Taehyung leave the house together with Yoongi.
"I'm really sorry Taehyung." He uttered, unaware that the other had managed to catch it, a tear rolled down the omega's cheek at the words.
"I'm sorry too."
