Chapter 17

Lightpaw found herself in a wide open field, Silverpelt glittering warmly above her head. She could hear Thunderstar's voice on the other side of a little hillock, so she climbed it, finding the huge ginger tom whispering to Windstar.

Both the former leaders lifted their heads at the sound of her approach, and Thunderstar smiled warmly and purred "Lightpaw! So nice to see you again!"

Lightpaw dipped her head in deep respect as she came closer, and Windstar's face broke into a wide smile, knowing that Lightpaw still respected her. Lightpaw could tell it would have injured her pride if she didn't show some sort of respect.

"Greetings, Thunderstar and Windstar. I'm guessing I've been brought here for some training of sorts?" she asked politely.

"Yes, of course!" Thunderstar meowed cheerfully, "Lets take you on a tour of StarClan territory first, then we can get into the meat of your training."

Lightpaw nodded, and followed as the massive ginger tom started to move forward at a brisk trot. He followed a well-worn path that curved through a thick forest, then veered off it to a little pool.

He stopped in front of it, and gazed into its silvery depths for a second. Lightpaw almost thought it was liquid starlight, before Thunderstar interrupted that train of thought by blowing on the water. It rippled under the air current, sending waves of cloudy water out. Soon, it looked more like a cloud than starlight.

The water swirled and swirled, until a clear image formed on the surface. Lightpaw could see it was some sort of cat. It has long, white fur, much like her's, but instead of gold-tipped wings, he had blue-tipped ones.

He turned his face a little, and she could see that his eyes were icy blue, sending shivers down her spine. The cat opened its mouth, as if it was speaking to someone, then suddenly, a huge spike of ice shot from both its front paws, engulfing whatever was in front of him.

He looked down on it with a terrifying glee glazing his eyes. Lightpaw shuddered, and she could see Thunderstar do the same. Whoever this cat was, no one seemed to like him.

Then, on the surface of the water, was the same cat, blood and torn fur surrounding him, staining his white paws red. He was breathing heavily, as if he'd just run all the way through Clan territory. His blue eyes were bright and menacing, showing the same, horrific glee. Then the light died from his eyes, and he look down at his blood-soaked paws.

His expression suddenly changed from an insane monster to a sad wreck of a cat. He lowered his head, and tears flowed down his face, leaving shiny white trails through all the gore.

Lightpaw wanted to reach out and comfort him, but then the water rippled, and the image vanished.

She blinked, then looked up at Thunderstar, a question in her eyes.

"That is Fallensnow. He lived many, many moons ago, and he had a special magic called his Icefire. He used it for the greater good at first, helping his Clan and any sick or injured cats. But then, one day, he changed. He started using his magic for his own wants, which seemed to eat away at his soul. Soon, he was willing to kill any cat that stood in the way of his ambitions. And then one day, he realised what he'd done, and ended it all by casting a spell on himself that turned him into a completely different cat, with no memory of what he'd done. That cat's name was also Fallensnow, and he was Crowmia's great great great grandfather. After a few generations, powers started to show up in his descendants again, and one of them decided to cast a spell that made sure that any cat who didn't have powers couldn't see the wings of a cat who did. This cat, later on, became a kittypet, and fathered Crowmia's mother. The three others in the family stayed behind and each had their own kits, which is why you have the powers. But yours seem... Different." Thunderstar finished his long story with a drawn-out sigh.

"OK" Lightpaw mewed simply.

"We'd better get you home." The ginger tom mewed suddenly.

Lightpaw nodded, and then felt herself being dragged into a void, everything going black.

Wow. Stuff. So yeah, I couldn't find inspiration for a solid week, then I basically died of stress and didn't end up writing anything. So ye. It's going great.

Also, this morning I found a very early draft of moonfire, and I wanna talk about that, because I can.

So when I first came up with Lightpaw, I was reading the Fourth Apprentice.

I really liked Dovepaw (now Dovewing), and thought to myself, hey wouldn't it be cool if Dovepaw had a kit one day, and had to run away from ThunderClan to raise it, because it had wings?

I basically called all of Tigerheart's Shadow. Like three years before it was even out.

Also, while I was thinking the above thoughts, I also thought, Lightfeather is such a good name. Dovepaw should name her kit Lightkit.

Which happened.

This is proof that I have prophetic powers and mindreading. Also, apparently I can teleport too, or so I've been told.

Anyways, rant over.

That's all from me!

- Lightfeather
