Part Two
I woke up, shaking, my body aching, and that's when things get blurry. I remember the ache of my chest, and the bite the fox left healed as I watched it, one of the best things about it I guess, no one can prove you accepted the power. That's when time ceased to mean anything for me. Faces came and went, leaders, warriors, apprentices, kits... No one seemed to notice I never changed. I stayed in the back, never getting to know anyone, never offering my friendship. I no longer felt the wish to socialize with my clan. My friends died, old age or other things, and I drifted through the generations without calling attention to myself.
One day, I was lonely, a Tom named sparkpaw was showing moonkit some practice moves. I wanted to share, so I padded up, watching. He had good moves, his dark pelt sleek as he dodged and rolled. The kit watched in open mouthed awe, clearly idolizing sparkpaw. I don't know why, but I wanted to show off. I didn't know at the time, that the fox was visiting others, after all this time. The cats received powers, and became Known as "glitches". As far as I knew, I was the only one, and my heart ached for companionship. That may have been what led me to teach sparkpaw my favorite trick.
"Hi. Can I show you a move , sparky?" I knew not a lot of cats had heard my voice, or even noticed my existence. He was clearly one of them, he looked at me in shock, but nodded. I stepped back and looked at him with narrowed eyes. "Tackle me."
I could tell he was confused, but he kept forward anyway, hooking my paws from under me. I let my body go limp, taking his weight, and rolling with it. He gasped and before he knew it, he was pined under me with my paw on his throat.
"That's a great move! Let me try it!" He was so excited, I stepped back and let him get ready. We practiced that move until he had it exactly right.
A pretty brown shecat came into camp after we were done, she looked at me with disdain. "Spark, what have you been doing?" Jealousy was thick in her mew, and I guessed she liked sparkpaw.
"Mintpaw! Moonpaw showed me this great move! It's awesome, I'll show you later if you want." Sparkpaws attention was fully on Mintpaw now, he was talking animatedly with her, and two other cats came from the apprentice's den. I remembered their names, bronspaw, and saphirpaw. All four apprentices started talking, and I wondered away. I suddenly remembered my wish to become a warrior, and I raced to Tidestar's den. I called out to her, and I slipped in when I heard her startled answer.
Tidestar sat him her nest, with Wildheart, her deputy, beside her. I held my head up, suddenly remembering Tidestar as a tiny mewling kit, and an apprentice of the clan.
"Tidestar, I've been training for longer than the amount of time it takes to become a warrior." If only she knew how long. "I want to become a warrior, please." I felt my eyes misting, and the struggle to keep my body from wiggling. I remember how old my body was when it stopped aging, only 11 moons, yet I was older than any other cat in the clan. If they only realized.
Tidestar looked startled, as if realizing that I was still part of her clan. Then nodded. "I'll hold your ceremony at sunhigh."
Excited, I nodded and rushed from the den. I looked around, seeing the other apprentices, I rushed over and skidded to a stop. A new apprentice had joined the others, a small cat named pebblepaw. She looked nervous and excited, I guessed she was only recently made an apprentice.
"Hey guys, I'm being made a warrior!" I was so excited, my tail waving and they looked at me like I had just grown a rabbit atop my head.
"That's not even fair, who is your mentor? I should be made a warrior, not you!"
"Have you even trained long enough?"
"Oh wow! A warriors ceremony!"
The comments came so quick, I didn't care who from, but sparkpaw remained silent. He nodded at me after the others had quieted. "Congrats moonpaw, this will be great for you."
Just then, Tidestar left her den, Wildheart on her heels, and leaped up onto the stone she summoned the clan from.
"Let all the cats gather for a clan meeting!" Her call rang through the air, and I rushed over, pelt bristling with excitement.
Tidestar stood tall, and time rushed by in my excitment as I finally Finally recieved my warrior name.
Moonblaze.
