Chapter 3
Zac and Mimmi had a race to Mako Island. They both started at Zac's house, jumping into the water at the same time, and then growing their tails and swimming as fast as they could.
All mermaids have orange tails, and mermen have blue tails. However, a merman hadn't been seen by the Mako Pod for over two hundred years, due to a massive war between mermen and mermaids. However, the Mako Pod soon learnt that Zac could be trusted. They had only met one other merman apart from Zac: a merman named Erik. Erik had first tried to activate the Merman Chamber, but Zac had been able to stop him. It was this heroic act that helped Zac gain the mermaids trust.
Zac and Mimmi raced to Mako Island, and after a small while, both of them reached the moon pool. Zac was the the first to raise his head above the water. About two seconds later, Mimmi did the same. They both swam gently to the rocks and grabbed gold hold of the ledge.
"I won," Zac grinned, panting slightly.
Mimmi raised her eyebrows. "No, I don't think you did!"
"I was the first to raise my head above the water," Zac told his sister.
"But I entered the moon pool first," Mimmi retorted back.
"Just face the facts, sis," Zac laughed. "I'm better at swimming then you."
"Oh, is that so?" Mimmi joked back. "You think I'm not fast enough?"
"Nobody could beat a merman swimming. I could take you down any time of the day," Zac explained.
Mimmi's eyes shone and she grinned. "Okay, you're on. Last one to get to the Ocean Café buys tonight's drinks."
"I'll beat you easy peasy," Zac laughed.
Mimmi grinned. "We'll see about that."
And the brother and sister dived back into the water and swam back through the underwater entrance.

"You sound amazing," David grinned at Sirena. They had just spent about three hours practising the new songs David had wrote. He played the guitar, and Sirena sang all hour original songs for a small audience in the café.
Sirena smiled, and felt her cheeks go red. "It was you who wrote the song."
"But it's you who's singing it," David smiled. "Do you want a drink to help your throat?"
"That's very kind of you, yes please," Sirena nodded.
David went to the counter to make Sirena and drink, and Sirena went over to Evie, who was leant against the wall, waiting for Ondina, who was in the changing room. Evie was vlooking fairly bored and worn out.
"Has she still not picked a dress?" Sirena asked Evie, nodding to the changing rooms.
Evie sighed and shook her head. "Ondina has tried on nearly ever single dress I have in the shop. I'm running out of ideas!"
Sirena have a little laugh and knocked on the locked changing room door. "Ondina? Are you nearly done?"
It was silent for a few moments, and then Ondina yelled: "Stop pressurising me!! I don't work well under pressure! I can feel your stares from in here!"
"She'll be ready soon," Sirena promised Evie, before heading back over to David.
"If only," Evie sighed. "If only."

Six o'clock came, and it was time for Sirena and David's performance.
"Hi everyone, thank you very much for coming," David said in the microphone. "Now, let's give a big round of applause for Sirena!!"
Sirena smiled as she jumped onto the stage and grabbed hold of the microphone. David sat down on his chair and took hold of his guitar.
"Sirena looks lovely," Mimmi commented.
Sirena was wearing a new blue dress with white miniature flower patterns. Her hair was in one long braid resting over her shoulder.
"She does indeed," Cameron nodded. "But she's not as pretty as you," he added quickly to Carly, as they had just began dating a short while ago.
Carly raised her eyebrows, but grinned. "Good save, Cam."
Zac had, unfortunately, won the race back to the café, so Mimmi has been the one to buy everyone's drinks, but she refused to pay for the refills, because she claimed that Zac cheated. She had bought everyone's favourite smoothies, and Zac had decided to be an even bigger pain by ordering the most expensive one on the menu.
"I'm never racing with Zac again," Mimmi whispered, for Sirena had began singing.
"Then don't," Ondina shrugged. Then a sly smile flicked across her face. "You can always race me..."
Everyone gradually fell silent as Sirena sung her song with her magical voice. When she had finished everyone stood up and clapped, Evie and Mimmi cheering extra loudly.
Sirena smiled and gave a small bow, before David struck the starting chord for the next song, and Sirena started singing once more.
Just then Ondina felt a shiver fall down her spine, and she shuddered. She had a strange feeling, like she was being watched...
Ondina turned her head slowly to the café door, and sure enough, a woman was stood there, looking straight at her...
The woman was called Veridia, and she was the head mermaid of The Mermaid Council. She had ginger frizzy hair and was wearing a long, white coat.
Ondina's eyes widened in shock. She stared at the head mermaid, and her legs. Veridia motioned with her hand for Ondina to come over to her. Ondina looked around her, and everyone had their eyes fixed on Sirena. She was able to slip out of her seat and silently made her was outside.
"Veridia?" Ondina said as soon as she had got outside. "What are you doing here?"
"I've come to give you, Sirena and Mimmi a message; a warning," Veridia said slowly.
"A warning?" Ondina repeated, full of curious. "What's happened?"
"We believe that Mako Island is under attack once more, and we feel like it is no longer the safe place it once was."
"That's awful, but why is the island under attack?" Ondina asked.
"We are not too sure yet, but...in the Pod...a few things have been going missing," Veridia replied, pausing at different moments in her sentence, trying to find the right words.
"Missing? Like, are mermaids being kidnapped?" Ondina questioned, raising an eyebrow.
Veridia shook her head. "No. Something much worse."
Ondina gave a small laugh. "What could possibly be more worse then a kidnapping?" Ondina's eyed widened with horror. "Has a mermaid been kidnapped by a human?"
"No! Nobody has been kidnapped!" Veridia half shouted. "But... Me and the Mermaid Council agree that you should not come back to Mako Island tonight."
"Why not? Maybe me, Mimmi and Sirena can help, we've saved Mako before, we'll gladly do it again!" Ondina said, outraged.
"I know, that's why I'm here," Veridia sighed, getting slightly impatient. "Me and the Mermaid Council believe you and your friends, and possibly the merman, can save our home. That's why your should stay on land; in case anything goes wrong tonight."
"But what's going on?" Ondina asked.
"Come to the Moon Pool tomorrow morning," Veridia said. "I'll be there, and I'll tell you everything."
Ondina nodded, and she suddenly thought of Sirena. "Where's Aquata? Is she alright?"
"Aquata is fine, and and a few of the other mermaids have going out in search for another temporary home." Veridia looked at the moon. "I must go now, remember tomorrow morning, be at the Moon Pool."
Ondina nodded.
Veridia turned to leave, and then paused in her tracks. "And Ondina," she turned around. "Come on your own, please. Don't bring Sirena and Mimmi."
"Why not?" Ondina asked. "Can I tell them about this conversation?"
"Tell them, yes," Veridia nodded. "But Sirena has a strong connection to the land boy... David? And I believe Mimmi would tell Zac what is happening on Mako. I need you to come alone."
"So I'm the messenger?" Ondina asked.
Veridia nodded. "Remember: The Moon Pool."
And Ondina watched the head of the Mermaid Council walk down the pier dive into the sea...
