Chapter 2
The next morning, just as the moon was setting and the sun was rising, three young mermaids were inside the moon pool. Two of them were fast asleep, and the third was wide awake.
The one who was awake was called Sirena, and she had just been out swimming with her older sister Aquata, as they liked to do every morning. Sirena spent most of her time with her sister. They loved to swim and sing together, and sometimes Aquata would teach Sirena new things, like songs or magic. That morning, Aquata had taken Sirena out hunting for small shells and pearls. Sirena then went back to the moon pool alone, to use the shells to make jewellery for her and her friends, whilst Aquata had to go to work. Aquata was training to be a member of The Mermaid Council.
Sirena had light blonde hair and a thin face, and a very pretty smile, which matched her amazing singing voice. Her eyes were a lovely shade of blue. Sirena always saw the best in people, and she made sure she was always there for her friends.
Her two mermaid friends who were asleep in the Moon Pool were called Ondina and Mimmi. Ondina had dark blonde wavy hair and light blue eyes, and always liked to get her own way, and she was known to be quite bossy.
Originally from a Northern Pod of mermaids, Mimmi, the third mermaid, was very smart, and was always one step ahead of her friends in mermaid school. As a hatchling, Mimmi had been abandoned by her mother Narissa, who was once known to be an amazing, powerful mermaid. Mimmi was taken in by the southern mermaid pod. She had dark skin and dark hair, and a thick, northern accent.
All three mermaids were the best of friends, and all three had earned their moon rings and learnt to harness the power of the moon.
Sirena was sat on a rock, and began making necklaces by threading the shells and pearls onto thin string whilst watching her friends sleep. She kept on wondering if she should wake them up, but every time she decided not too.
Finally, Ondina opened her eyes, blinked a few times, and then stretched, and pulled herself onto the rocks next to Sirena.
Sirena smiled. "Good morning."
Ondina gave a sleepy response. "Hi Sirena."
"What do you think?" Sirena held up her half finished necklace for Ondina to see.
Ondina have a nod of approval. "Pretty, who's it for?"
"I'm making this one for Aquata, and then I was planning on making bracelets for you and Mimmi."
Ondina nodded, and looked down at her ring on her right index finger. "Fully charged," she said.
Sirena smiled. "Yep. I'm going to visit David at the café later. Do you want to come?"
David was Sirena's boyfriend, who was a human. They had meet when Sirena was cast out by the pod with two of her other friends, called Nixie and Lyla. But that's another story...
"Why wait and visit him later? Why not now? Come on, I'll wake up Mimmi," Ondina said.
"Maybe we should let her sleep, she had to work all day yesterday at the Marina, and then she was awake half of the night-" Sirena began. But her sentence was cut off as Ondina used her fin to create an avalanche of water fly over Mimmi. The water hit her, and Mimmi gave a sharp yell and sank under the water.
"What!?" Mimmi cried as soon as she had resurfaced, her wet hair clumped on her face.
"Sorry," Ondina laughed. "But we're off to land, do you want to come?"
Mimmi pushed the hair out of her face. "Why not. I'll go meet Zac, and we best check on Evie too."
Zac was Mimmi's long lost brother. They had been separated at birth, and had just met each other not long ago. Zac had been raised on land, and Evie was his girlfriend, who was also a mermaid. However, Evie had accident transformed into a mermaid, one night. She was in the moon pool when it was a full moon. The power of the moon had given her a mermaid tail, which appears whenever she touched water. The same thing went for Zac, only he had been a merman all his life, though he only just discovered this at the same time he found out Mimmi was his sister.
"Let's go then," Ondina smiled. "I'll race you!!"
Ondina jumped into the water and swam to the underwater entrance of the moon pool. Mimmi followed her a few moments after. Sirena quickly threaded one last pearl on her string, before ensuring all her bits and pieces were safe, before swimming after her two friends.

At the exact same time, Zac was walking along the beach, heading to the Ocean Café, where he was arranging to meet Evie.
Zac was tall, and he had dark tanned skin and black messy hair. He had just been out swimming in the sea for half an hour, and good swim has drained most of the energy from his, so the walk to the café was slow and steady.
"Hey, Zac!!" He heard a voice call from behind him.
Zac turned around, and grinned as he was his best friend, Cameron, running towards him in his life saver uniform.
"Hey Cam," Zac said when Cameron had caught up to him. "Ate you on your break?"
"Nah, just thought I'd come and say hello," Cameron grinned. Cameron had short blonde curly hair, and he was a few inches shorter then Zac. "How were you last night? It was a full moon, you know."
"I do know," Zac responded. "And I was fine. I've learnt to control the moon spell now."
"And Evie?" Cameron asked. "How was she last night? Was she with the fish chicks?"
"No, she wasn't with Mimmi, Ondina and Sirena," Zac replied. "We called each other every hour to make sure she didn't see the moon by accident. I fell asleep at about two, though."
"Well, tell Evie I say 'hi'," Cameron said. "But I've got to get back to work. See you at the café later?"
Zac nodded. "Yep. I'll probably be there all day. Might go swimming with Mimmi and Evie later though. Are you coming tonight to hear Sirena sing?"
"You bet," Cameron grinned. "That girl has the best voice in the world! Anyways, see you!!"
"Bye Cam!" Zac smiled. Then Zac continued down the beach, and Cameron ran back to his tall, life guard chair.

"Table three want two mango smoothies and one pineapple smoothie," Carly told David at the Ocean Café.
Carly was Evie's best friend, and both Carly and David were aware of all their mermaid friends. Carly had blonde hair which she always wore in a ponytail, and David had fairly long brown curly hair. David was the owner of the Ocean Café, and Carly was the waitress. Evie also owned a small shop in one corner of the café, which sold women's clothes.
"Coming right up," David nodded, preparing the fruit for the blenders.
Evie was at the café too, doing her best to help out whilst waiting for the new delivery of stock to arrive for her shop. However, it was hard, as she was trying not to get splashed by water.
Evie had dark brown hair and a thin face. She was very pretty, and her eyes were a lovely shade of brown. She was mopping up the floor from a spillage caused by one of the customers.
"Evie, can you go to the cool room and grab me a pineapple?" David asked over the noise of the blender.
"Sure," Evie placed the mop by the wall, and grabbed a pair of gloves to put on. David looked up.
"Oh, sorry! I forgot you were a-" David looked around. "-a mermaid," he whispered. "I'll go get them."
"I can do it," Evie told him. "It's just a pineapple. What can it do?"
"The cool room is full of drinks... You could get wet and pop a tail," Carly said.
"I'm not going to let a piece of fruit get in the way of my life," Evie smiled, giving a small eye roll. She then went into the cool room, reached into one of the boxes for the pineapple, and then took it back to David.
"Thanks," David smiled, taking the pineapple and starting to chop it into small pieces so it could fit into the blender.
Just then Zac entered the café.
Evie turned, saw him and smiled.
"Hey," Zac smiled at his girlfriend, pulling Evie into a hug.
"Hi yourself," Evie replied, smiling back. "You're in a good mood."
"I've just been swimming," Zac explained. "The ocean is incredible at first light! You have to let me take you one morning."
"That's very sweet of you, but I have to look after the shop," Evie said.
"Well, you're not open now, how about we go for a swim?" Zac asked.
"I'm helping David and Carly, later. I promise," Evie squeezed Zac's hand before carrying on mopping the floor.
"How were you yesterday night?" He asked her.
"I fell asleep at about three, I'm completely fine!" Evie said happily.
Zac sat at one of the round tables and took a look at the menu. He was rather hungry, and was debating whether to order a fish burger or a bowl of shrimps.
Just then Sirena, Mimmi and Ondina entered the café and sat next to him. Zac looked up and smiled. "Hey guys!"
"Hi Zac!" Mimmi smiled back at her brother. "How were you last night?"
"I was completely fine, you have to stop worrying, I'm in control of the moon spells," Zac told her.
"And Evie?" Sirena asked.
"She's fine too," Zac nodded.
"Sirena," David noticed her and went over to her.
Sirena looked up and smiled. "David, hi!"
"I wrote a new don't for tonight's gig, do you want to practice while it's quiet?" David asked.
Sirena grinned. "Sure!" And she followed David to the small stage in the corner of the café.
"Do you want to go for a swim?" Mimmi asked Zac. "We could go to Mako?"
Zac nodded. "Sure." And the siblings left the café.
Ondina sighed. "Don't mind me then. I'll just sit here... Alone..." She looked around, but all her mermaids friends were gone.
