Chapter 11
Minni found a poster created for the Marine Park, with the location written at the bottom in big writing. She told Lyla and Ondina, and together they found their way.
There was a huge sign post welcoming all the tourists and visitors, and the Marine Park was full of rides, shops with souvenirs, people dressed up as pirates, pools full of dolphins and other sea creatures, a massive pirate ship which you could board, and lots more excitement!!
Lyla took one of the programmes from a man who was handing them out, and she flicked through it until she found a coloured map, spread over two pages.
"Where do you want to go?" Lyla asked. She turned the page. "Oohh, they have dolphin shows every two hours!"
"Lyla, stay focused!" Ondina said.
"What?" Lyla asked innocently.
"We need to find some mermaids," Ondina said, looking at a group of girls walking past them. "I don't know how we're going to do that, but we have too."
Mimmi snapped her fingers. "I know!!"
"What?" Lyla and Ondina asked.
"Lyla, when is the next dolphin show on?"
"Mimmi!!!" Ondina yelled, throwing her arms up in the air.
"In ten minutes," Lyla said once she had flipped the page back to the schedule.
"We need to go there," Mimmi said.
"We need to find some mermaids," Ondina muttered.
"Why?" Lyla asked Mimmi.
Mimmi sighed, sometimes she didn't realise that not everyone could think and catch onto ideas as fast as she could. "When a mermaid gets splashed with water, what does she do?"
"Grows her tail," Lyla answered.
"What else would she do?" Mimmi questioned them.
"Run away so no one would see her?" Ondina replied.
Mimmi sighed. "Anything else!?"
"Jump into the sea?" Lyla shrugged.
Mimmi pointed at Lyla. "Yes!! When we get splashed we jump into a big mass of water, so we don't transform on land. So... If a mermaid got splashed here, at the Marine Park, what do you think she'd do?"
"Jump into water," Ondina nodded.
"And what sea creatures live in water at the Marina?" Mimmi said.
Lyla grinned, finally understanding. "Dolphins."
"And who here can talk to dolphins?" Mimmi asked, pointing to herself.
Ondina smiled too. "You can," she said to Ondina.
"So I can ask the dolphins if they've seen any mermaids jump into the water," Mimmi spread her hands out.
Ondina rolled her eyes. "Why did you have to ask us all those questions? You could have just told us that."
Mimmi shrugged. "It was more fun this way."
Lyla, with the map, guided her mermaid friends to the dolphin show. However, when they tried to get to the dolphins the guard told them the area was strictly off limits, and he sent them to go sit down on the massive layered benches with all the other tourists. And as none of the mermaids had their moon rings, they had to turn back.
"He's still watching us," Ondina said, looking at the huge guard out of the corner of her eye. "He must know that we're going to try get back in there."
"What can we do?" Lyla asked as they sat down at the end of one of the white benches.
"We'll wait until the show has started, and then I'll go," Mimmi said. "I'll turn invisible and sneak past him. If we all go and he sees we're missing he'll get suspicious. If he asks you where I've gone, tell him I've gone to get a drink or something."
Ondina and Lyla agreed, just as there was a massive round of applause.
A dark skinned man with black curly hair and wearing a dark blue tight swimming suit walked out from behind the mass of rocks and to the large dolphin pool.
He raised his hands to the audience and they cheered him even more.
Mimmi, Ondina and Lyla had no idea who he was, or why everyone liked him so much, but that clapped along anyway.
"Hello ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, my name is Laurie, and me and the dolphins are here to welcome you, aren't we?" He raised his hand and flicked his wrists.
Immediately two dolphins jumped up out of the water, performed two back flips each, and dive straight back into the water.
The crowd went: "Oohh!" And they cheered and clapped.
"Now, the dolphins have asked me to make sure you get lots of lovely pictures of them! Can you do that for me?" Laurie asked.
About ninety percent of the audience readied their cameras and phones.
"Don't stare at them," Ondina whispered to Lyla. Lyla was looking at the phone belonging to the man next to her.
"But what are they?" Lyla asked, nodding to the phone.
Ondina sighed. "Trust me, you don't want to know."
"Lovely," Laurie smiled. "Now, the female dolphins do like to show off their moves, and they love to get everyone's attention. Isn't that right, girls?" Laurie asked. He threw his arms in the air, and three female dolphins jumped out of the water, flipping their tails constantly so it looked like they were dancing above the water.
Everyone clapped once more.
"Now, all the girls in our Maine Park have their eye on one particular dolphin: Ronnie!!"
Apparently everyone in the audience knew who this was, because they all got onto their feet and cheered as loudly as they could.
"I'm going to go now," Mimmi whispered to the others, but she wasn't sure of they heard her or not. Mimmi got out of her seat, made her way down the stairs and across to the entrance where the guard was.
Mimmi quickly hid behind a large rock, checked to make sure no one was looking, clenched her right hand and drew it over to her left side. When she looked down, she couldn't see her body, so she knew she was invisible.
But Mimmi knew she had to be quick, because she didn't know how long the invisibility would last without her moon ring.
Mimmi was able to sneak past the guard undetected, and only unclenched her fist when she had turned the corner.
"-So after three we all need to shout for Ronnie," Mimmi heard Laurie call to the audience.
Mimmi looked around. She was on a huge dirt pathway, next to a huge block of stones. She could see parts of the path snaking their way to doors in the rocks. Next to the rocks there was a huge pool of water. Mimmi took a quick look, but she couldn't see any dolphins, and she didn't really want to jump into the pool and look for some.
"Hello?" She called as loudly as she dared. "Any dolphins here?" She tried, but she got no response. "Ronnie?" She asked.
Just then she saw the fin of a dolphin swimming towards her. Mimmi smiled as the blue dolphin raised its head and squeaked at her.
"Hello there," Mimmi smiled, crouching down so she could talk to the dolphin. "And what's your name?"
The dolphin whistled at her, and Mimmi grinned. The dolphin was called Ronnie. Mimmi knew this because she learnt how to speak dolphin at a young age.
"Hello Ronnie, is it okay if I ask you a question?" Mimmi spoke in English.
Ronnie made a laughing around. "Only if you're quick, my fans need me!"
Mimmi laughed. "I will be. At this Marine Park, have any - this is going to sound crazy - have and girls got splashed, and jumped into the water, and then transformed into mermaids?"
Ronnie squeaked. "Why? Are you one too?"
"I am, and its very important that you help me. Have you seen any mermaids?" Mimmi asked again.
"Yes," Ronnie replied, making a clicking sound. "There is actually one of the assistant dolphin trainers who is a mermaid. She's called Cleo."
"I need to find her," Mimmi said. "What does she look like?"
"Hey!!" A voice called, and Mimmi looked up, startled. At first the thought it was the guard, but it wasn't. It was a teenage girl, in a blue outfit, just like Laurie was wearing. She girl had dark skin and dark hair in a pony tail, and she was carrying a black box full of fish.
Mimmi slowly extended her legs and stood straight, not taking her eyes off the dolphin trainer, who came towards her.
"Gotta go!" Ronnie whistled, ducking back into the after and swimming off.
"You can't be here," the female dolphin trainer told Mimmi.
"I'm sorry," Mimmi responed. "I love dolphins, I was just talking with Ronnie."
"Taking with Ronnie?" The female trainer raised an eyebrow. "You really think that the dolphins can understand you? "
Mimmi paused. "I mean, I was talking to Ronnie. Obviously he wasn't answering me!" Mimmi gestured to the pool next to her.
"Well I'm sorry, but this part of the park is off limits for the public," the female dolphin trainer said.
"Right, sorry," Mimmi said. She turned around, and was about to leave to tell Lyla and Ondina about this 'Cleo' person, when suddenly Ronnie came rushing back to to them in the water, and flicked his tail, causing a huge gush of water to fly towards the two girls, and hit them.
Mimmi felt the water soak into her clothes, and she saw the same thing happen to the dolphin trainer.
Mimmi looked at her dolphin trainer. Mimmi knew she had to jump into the water, but what would the trainer think?
Mimmi didn't have time to think of the answer as she dived into the water, and she felt her tail appear. Mimmi swam down for a moment and turned around. She was scared when she saw the dolphin trainer dive in after her, but her fear turned into shock when she saw the dolphin trainer had a tail just like hers.
Mimmi's eyes widened as she looked the dolphin trainer up and down, and the dolphin trainer did the same with Mimmi. Both girls flipped their fins and swam up to the surface.
"You're a mermaid?" The dolphin trainer asked Mimmi once their heads had emerged out of the water.
Mimmi smiled. "Yeah, and you are too?"
The dolphin trainer grinned. "I'm guessing that your conversation with Ronnie wasn't just one way?"
Mimmi laughed. "I'm Mimmi," Mimmi introduced herself.
The dolphin trainer smiled and nodded. "I'm Cleo."
