Chapter 13
Song - U + Ur Hand, P!nk
A few weeks had passed before I could get close to Jack or Steve. Every time I got close, something happened. It wasn't because Noah had figured it out. No, he was still as clueless as ever. Even with Marnie's death and Bella missing, he hadn't put the pieces together. I guess he never thought that vampires would save his wife from her watery grave. To Noah, these were clearly separate events, and there was no coincidence at all.
Through his contacts, Roman was able to find out that Noah was not a person of interest. He had solid alibis for the times of their deaths. The cops were concerned that something was going on at Wyatt & Jordan because, as the wife of an employee, I could be connected to whatever was happening.
So that meant that the security around the female employees had been upgraded. It didn't matter to me. I was done with them. I'd moved on to the men.
It was a view of the past that had given me inspiration. In one of the folders were images taken at a Christmas party. Naturally, as the oblivious wife, I wasn't invited. Noah always said that work functions were for employees only, and if he could convince his father otherwise, he would have. I accepted it and previously, I'd gone to dinner with my friends.
The Christmas parties were held at the office. One of the floors had a large room that they used for training. I only knew about it from what Noah said and, of course, the photos that I'd seen in the folder. It was one giant orgy, and it made me wonder if Roman and Jasper were wrong about the retreat only being available to the hunters. I guess that it could be a once-a-year type deal where Otis gives the desk jockeys their bonus by allowing them to screw the guild girls.
That part of the party happened after the wait staff left. Otis hired a catering company to deal with the food, and naturally, he wouldn't want them to see what went on in this place. Of course, me being eager to get into everything and take all opportunities, I slipped into the group of people working for the catering company and pretended I was one of them. As soon as I could, I ditched them in favour of hiding.
My heart was racing as I watched through a crack in the door as the last of the catering company entered the elevator. Otis and another man walked to the elevator, waiting for it to return. Jack approached, and the mystery man said something to him before entering the elevator. When the door closed and Jack shifted, I opened the door. He turned to the squeaking sound and saw me smiling at him.
"Well, hello."
Jack began walking over to me.
"Did your friends leave you behind?"
I said nothing but offered a coy smile. Dressed in a servant's uniform, I looked the part. The bonus of this situation was that the wait staff were expected to wear gloves. With the wig and a face full of makeup, I no longer looked like the woman who had once sat across the table from him.
Pulling on the tie, I dragged Jack into the room. He chuckled, closing the door and flicking the lock.
Instantly, his hands were on me, searching for buttons while groping me. I moved him to the chair in front of the desk and sat on his lap. "Are you a wild lover?" I whispered in his ear. "Adventurous?"
"Yeah, baby. You want it on the desk?"
I chuckled, pulling on his tie.
"I'd love to tie you to the chair and suck you dry."
His eyes widened, silently nodding.
Loosening the tie, I quickly pulled it away and unbuttoned his shirt. Easing him into the situation was not difficult. Not when he was distracted by the belief that he was about to have sex with a stranger.
Jack's hands moved to my backside, urging me closer to his body. It was enough to ignite my hunger for other things, and I didn't want to prolong this to the point where desire consumed me.
Free of his shirt and tie, Jack moved to pull his pants down.
"Not yet. I'm not done teasing you."
Jack seemed a little dubious but accepted it all the same. Moving behind him, I tied his hands behind his back, looping them around the chair to ensure he couldn't move from it. Returning to his lap, I smoothed my gloved hands over his chest, feeling the vibrations of his heart beating as it pounded against his chest.
I smiled at Jack, tilting my head slightly. He frowned, clearly struggling to figure out why I stopped.
"Is something wrong?"
"No, not really. I was wondering what it felt like to screw my husband."
Jack's frown increased as he watched me pick up the image that was about to join the others in becoming a memento, perhaps a calling card.
It was an image of my darling ex-husband having sex with Jack. From what I'd seen in the folders, it was mostly Jack and Steve, but there were a few other men that Noah had been with. I didn't care who he was with before me or now that we weren't together. The gender didn't matter. What made my blood boil was his cheating. His actions were what cut me to the bone.
Because, in all honesty, I didn't care. Roman and Jasper were proof of that. They had moments alone. They had time with me. But I guess that was the difference between the two situations. One was cheating, the other was not.
"It was so good of Noah to take this image of the two of you."
Turning it around, I showed him the image of him and Noah having sex.
"Danika?"
I nodded, folding the photo.
"I like to think that I've moved past the fact that Noah hasn't once been faithful to me. I will do that, and I will move on. What really annoys me is that you sat there, all of you were there at my birthday dinner, and not once did you say anything to me. You pretended to care. You acted as if you didn't know my fate or the night ahead of everyone else at the table. Did you know I was allergic to a preservative commonly found in jam?"
He silently stared at me.
"And my birthday cake had jam in it. Noah claims that he requested that jam was not used, but I think you and I know the truth, right? It was intentional."
Warily, he nodded. So, it would seem that in the end, Jack decided that honesty was the best policy.
"I have a question I want you to answer. How much did it cost Noah to hire a hitman to murder me?"
Jack glanced at the door, probably wondering if he would be heard if he screamed. The answer was no, not with the loud music.
"Jack?"
He turned back, giving a weak shrug.
"Uh, our lone hitmen go for fifty grand, I think. Look, you've got to understand, you're a,"
"Civilian? I know."
The uncertainty turned to a frown, and I smiled. It was wide enough for him to see the fangs. Before he could say anything, I put the photo into his mouth.
"It's been fun, but I've got a lot to do tonight."
The fear dripping through him spurred on the lust for his blood. It was now or never, so I let the fangs taper and bit him. The venom flowed quickly, and even though Jack struggled, I managed to keep him in the seat. It didn't take long for him to be subdued, and once that happened, his death was inevitable.
"Three down," I whispered.
Pulling my bag out from under the desk, I took my happy snap. With a huff, I was done with one, ready to lure the next little fly into my web. Slipping out of the room, I turned the lock and closed the door.
I was at the far end of the building, where there were a few offices, an elevator, and a reception desk. A wall spanned the distance behind the reception desk, both facing the elevator.
I discreetly scanned the crowd at the other end of the building. They were in the far corner enjoying themselves, all naked. I couldn't get over how easily these people shed their clothes. As for luring Steve away, I was doubtful I would be able to. I had high hopes to take down all three tonight, but I'd be happy to get Steve in addition to Jack. Now though, I wasn't sure if I would get him.
Once they discovered Jack, getting my fangs into Steve could be problematic. The bonus was that it would make Noah sit up and take notice.
Figuring that I'd lost out on Steve, I decided to pull back for a few minutes and hide in the shadows to see what came my way. At least, that was my plan. A firm hand on my shoulder altered that.
