Chapter 31: Corruption Devastation

Moana wiped her final drop of tears and stepped on the floor of the chief's large mansion-looking home.

********

"Orders, your majesty?" one servant asked. The chief turned his head so that three-fourth of his face was showing, he opened his lips, smirking but his teeth were still closed. Then he clicked his tongue and gestured as he slid his fingers across his neck. "As you wish."

"RAAAAAAHHHH!" Armies of soldiers charged out to Moana and Maui with their spears.

"You know what to do, Maui," Moana said.

"Yes, chief," Maui replied. He jumped in front of Moana and blew a giant wind, creating a large sand dust fog.

Every soldiers coughed violently as they fanned the dust in front of their eyes. They were barely able to squint so that their eyes won't sting. When the dust fog died out, they realized Moana and Maui have surpassed them. When they looked back, Moana and Maui were already in the building, with two unconscious guards lying down in front of the gate.

Inside the gate, Moana was shaking her hands and cracked her knuckles. "Well, that got my anger out a little," Moana said. "I need to punch harder to the chief of this island."

"That was a nice punch, kid, I admire that," Maui said. This time he was proud instead of freaked out by her aggressiveness.

"By the way, all of the poles in this building... they all look so sharp," Moana pointed. "This can literally be used as a weapon."

"You're right," Maui said as he examined everything in the building. "Let's see..." he took out the scale from the pole. "These are much sharper than those viper's scales."

"You mean the ones from Uhanai?" Moana asked.

"Yeah, look at it," Maui said as he held it out to her.

"Oh... wow..." Moana said. "I can cut myself just by holding it." She said as she carefully held the scale so she wouldn't get hurt.

********

"Chief, they passed the first barrier," one servant said. "And they are taking the scales off of the pole that you build. What should we do next?"

"Better than I expected," the chief answered. "Well... allow me to face them. I'll show them what it feels like to be punished by the most powerful chief of Roimana."

********

Moana took a deep breath into her nose and out to her mouth. She cracked her knuckles once more. Maui cracked his neck as he cocked them side to side.

"Well, well, well, welcome," the chief said as he encountered them. His cheeks are pretty chubby, his skin is tan, has a lot of hair on his chin, his legs, and his arms, wears gray clothes made with gray feathers, and his eyes were fresh hazel. "My name is Wuruhi. Welcome to Roimana, where there are so much tears that you can make ocean out of them."

"Wuruhi, as a chief of Motunui, I demand you to treat them right," Moana said.

"Chief Moana of Motunui, unfortunately, I cannot do that," Wuruhi said.

"Your 'cannot' really means 'will not'," Moana said, still trying to hold her anger in.

"True, chief," Wuruhi chuckled as he replied. "Wow, you read my mind so well. I guess it's the connection between chiefs."

"Save those poor people, now!" Moana demanded.

"You may be the chief of Motunui, but not at Roimana," Wuruhi replied. "I need those people to suffer or I'll die."

"Don't give me excuses for your joy to torture them around," Moana said.

"But seriously, ma'am, I will die... well for not having fun," Wuruhi said.

"They said violence is never the answer," Moana said. "But this time, it is." She ran towards Wuruhi as she screamed and aimed her fist at Wuhuri. Wuruhi's hazel eyes turned green and sent out a powerful telekinesis. She was pushed back to Maui. They both groaned as they struggled to get up.

"Trying to play strong with me eh?" Wuruhi said. "Listen, no matter how strong you think you are, you will never, ever be able to defeat me."

"Let's see about that," Maui said. "CHEEE-HOO!" He transformed into a hawk and glided towards him.

"Adorable," Wuruhi said. Then he turned his slender body to a gray, furry body, his small round ears into pointy ears, his nose and mouth stretched out and turned into a muzzle, and his jaws stretched in with his teeth pointing out. He howled to signify that he had accepted Maui's challenge.

Didn't expect that, but he wouldn't expect this either! Maui thought as he glided onto Wuruhi. He knew what Wuruhi was going to do. He knew what Wuruhi was going to do. Before Wuruhi was about to bite Maui, he quickly changed directions. Wuruhi snapped his jaws only to bite the air. Moana was smart enough to foresee this move and use this chance to punch Wuruhi's jaw with her fist. She managed to snap one of his tooth out. When it dropped on the floor, she quickly grabbed it and ran away from him as fast as possible.

Unfortunately, Wuruhi was much faster than her, thus he was able to tackle her and show of his intimidating, large, and sharp teeth. Moana grunted as she tried to free herself from Wuruhi's grip, but her arms wouldn't budge.

Right when he was about to feast on Moana, he felt a forceful impact on his head. He glared at Maui who struck his head once more. Wuruhi howled and chased after the hawk. Since it had claws and gifted paws, it was able to climb up the walls, jump far from the wall, and land perfectly on its feet. He was pretty close on biting Maui's wings off.

Moana had to think of something. She was still afraid to approach to Wuruhi. Only if I had a spear or my oar with me... oh, what am I gonna do? Moana thought with full of concern.

Then she remembered,

"By the way, all of the poles in this building... they all look so sharp," Moana pointed. "This can literally be used as a weapon."

"You're right," Maui said as he examined everything in the building. "Let's see..." he took out the scale from the pole. "These are much sharper than those viper's scales."

"You mean the ones from Uhanai?" Moana asked.

"Yeah, look at it," Maui said as he held it out to her.

"Oh... wow..." Moana said. "I can cut myself just by holding it." She said as she carefully held the scale so she wouldn't get hurt.

"That's right! The scales from the poles!" Moana said to her quietly. While Wuhuri was chasing after Maui, she quietly tip-toed to one of the pole, and gently and cautiously pulled out one of the scale.

She aimed at Wuruhi who was about to land. Wuruhi noticed it and sent it away with his telekinesis skill. He aimed those scales back to Moana, which she dodged by diving in the different direction.

While this was happening, Maui attempted to glide towards to Wuruhi to strike him with his wings. Wuruhi is fast-witted to notice Maui and push him with an invisible force.

Gosh... he's too fast, Moana thought. There's no way we can catch him off guard!

How are we going to get a catch on this guy...? Maui thought. Just then, he realized that his speed was not fast enough to avoid Wuruhi's psychic. The invisible forced pushed him against the pole. Maui groaned in pain as his back was all scratched up.

Wuruhi then turned to Moana and gave her some lessons as he made her slam against the wall, causing her to faint. He chuckled in satisfaction.

Just let me get him... Maui thought weakly and turned into a small beetle to get close to him, expecting to be barely seen.

Silly trick, turning into a beetle to go against me, even worse than I expected, Wuruhi thought. He was able to locate where Maui was heading exactly. He performed telekinesis on Maui...

...

... but it didn't work.

What?! Wuruhi was confused. He performed it again, exerting his full energy, but it didn't work against Maui in beetle form. Darn it! I guess it doesn't work against bugs! He eventually exhausted himself out as he used majority of his power to make the psychic work against Maui.

Maui took this chance to turn himself back into human and kick him straight up. Wuruhi flew up as he felt a strong force against his stomach. He coughed out cold and sour air. The taste of sourness danced in his mouth. It was not a pleasant feeling. He landed back down hard in front of Maui. "That's what you get for hurting Moana..."

Moana groaned to stand up. "Moana! You okay?" Maui went up to her to help her up.

"Don't... I got this..." Moana said as she stood up by herself. Moana slowly walked up to fainted Wuruhi, but then she saw a dark, gray cloud surrounding Wuruhi. As the gray cloud faded away from Wuruhi, they were able to see extremely skinny, scarred, almost hairless, and feeble wolf, and the gray cloud turned into a unknown shaped creature. The monster clearly looked like human, just the top half. The bottom half was still a cloud. He had red dots as eyes, big cloudy nose, hair, goatee, and ears. "I see... you're the cause of his corruption..." Moana said weakly.

The monster frowned and charged towards Moana and Maui. As he was about to bump into Maui and Moana to attack, Moana held up the charm, sealing it. As soon as he was completely sealed, Moana, Maui, and the corpse of the wolf was surrounded by a dark gray force field. Then the gray force field turned into a vision of somewhere in an island with beach, forest, village.

In the middle of the village, there stood a man, happy to help everyone. It seemed that he was a chief of the village as everyone in the village loved him and respected him. One day, everyone else turned back on him, leaving him behind and sailing to different islands. He was devastated as he was left all alone.

"Wow... that man must be Wurihi..." Maui said.

"Y-yeah..." Moana stuttered as she was still in pain.

While he was alone, there was figure that stretched his hands out and placed it on Wuruhi's forehead to bestow him a new special power: power to grow crops faster and build houses faster.

"Kapu'uila!" Maui said.

"That's Kapu'uila?" Moana asked. Maui nodded.

After finishing his island, few foreigners came into his island, and with a warm heart, he let them settle in his village. Then more people came in, then more, and then more, and then a lot more, and the village was now complete as each had a role. He made sure everyone was happy.

"That's so sweet," Moana said.

However, people started to turn their backs on him as the crops wouldn't grow and the fish won't come. Some men were aggressive as they started to physically beat and wound Wuruhi.

"Oh my gosh..." Maui said.

After a while he was left beaten up, his eyes flashed open. As a human, he howled to a full moon, which turned him into a wolf, and slashed every villagers he can find.

"How horrible..." Moana said as the scene of Wuruhi killing people.

Soon, Wuruhi traveled around to seek for everyone who mistreated him. He gathered them to an island an put a curse on them that they will always be extremely skinny no matter how much they ate, and each will be forced to walk and sacrifice their food for him, and keep doing that until they are drop dead...

...

...then the barrier disappeared and the voice echoed: All I wanted... was respect... from everyone... I didn't mean this... I wanted one more chance... but not this... I didn't mean for this to happen... please forgive me... and avenge me... that is my last wish...

"May you rest in peace," Moana said as she let out a deep breath held up the charm. "We'll make sure that Kapu'uila pays for what he's done."

Then they stood there for quite a long time. Maui wanted to say something to Moana, but his vocal chord did not let any voice flow out. Moana just stood there with her eyes closed and the charm on her chest.

"This is a miracle!" Moana and Maui heard a cheer outside the palace.

They quickly went outside to see what was going on. Every humans had healthy body, and those who had just died started to slowly open their eyes. Moana couldn't hold back her tears of joy. Maui let out a slight chuckle.

"Are you the ones who saved us...?" A man in the very front asked.

"Yes, and my name is Moana," Moana said.

"And my name is Maui," Maui said.

"Let's give a cheer for Moana and Maui!" The man announced everyone and they cheered.

********

"Thank you, Moana and Maui! We will never forget you!" People said as Moana and Maui left the island. "Good bye! Good bye!"

"Good bye!" Moana and Maui waved back. Pua also waved back. Heihei was still stuck in the storage.

As they sailed away, Moana looked at the map to see where they should head next. "Hmmm... the closest one is... Maui island? Hey Maui! There's an island named after you!" She said it to Maui, but he was already taking a deep nap, with Pua in his arms, who was also sleeping.

Moana snickered and said, "Next stop! Maui island!" She tightened the halyards and bound the stays, and the boat thrusted through the ocean.
