three

Zach woke up to the annoying barks of, his German Shepherd, Chase. He rolled over to check the time before getting up. He woke up a few minutes before his alarm was to go off. He switched it off and got ready for the day. It was Friday which meant he and Skyler would go hunting the next day.

"Chase! Shut up."

Zach walked down the stairs to see Anthony trying to quiet the dog. He grabbed him by the collar and walked him to the door to let him out. He turned to Zach.

"Oh did he wake you up too?"

"Yeah." He replied, rubbing his eye tiredly.

"Here I'll make breakfast. Turn the Tv on." Anthony told him went the kitchen to make them pancakes. Their kitchen had a small Tv in the corner that Zach was grateful for. He would be able to eat in the kitchen and still watch his shows rather than moving.

Zach clicked it on and turn to the news, they always watched it in the morning. Zach mostly for the weather so he knew what to wear and Anthony for local news so he could stay up to date with events.

"A teen has been missing form Ryder. He was a Freshman at the local high school. Authorities suspect he was kidnapped. His name, Jake Dasher. He went missing on Tuesday. If seen please alert-"

"Let me see," Anthony said and turned the TV so he could see. A picture flashed onto the screen. As soon as he saw it Zach's eyes went wide.

"Oh my god." He whispered.

...

"Are you sure?"

"I know it sounds crazy but I think he was the one I saw in my dream!"

"I mean it could be someone else, maybe it just looked like him. Or your brain just thought it did, dreams fade and exact details are lost you know." Skyler said.

"I'm telling you it was him. They said he was kidnaped on the news and that's what happened in my dream."

"We could look for clues when we go hunting tomorrow if it makes you feel better."

"Oh yeah, that would be cool," Zach said, content with the decision.

"Ok now focus on taking notes," Skyler said and turned back to his work.

Darkness, that's all he saw. Two yellow orbs pierced it, glowing brightly. They brought light but fear with it.  A soft growl was audible, white teeth appeared under the eyes. The creature growled louder and his fear grew. Suddenly the black background became a forest, Hesper Forest. The creature could clearly be seen in the light. It was a large, dark-furred timber wolf. It came closer, head low and teeth bared. Behind it lay a smaller one bleeding on the ground. The black wolf began to run at him. He wanted to run away but his feet wouldn't move. He fell backward the wolf on top of him ready to kill.

Zach's eyes snapped opened and his body jerked back in fright. He looked around, he was still in the same math class. To his left was Skyler, he was staring at him.

"Are you ok?" He asked worriedly, "I was just about to wake you."

"How long was I out?" Zach asked, trying to stop breathing hard.

"'bout five minutes."

"I just had another weird dream."

"Really? Do tell." He smirked.

"Ok let's see you decode this one. It's really short by the way. So it was dark then two yellow eyes appeared and I heard a growl. It grew louder and suddenly I was in Hesper Forest and a wolf stood in front of me. It ran at me and tackled me to the ground. Right as it was about to clamp its jaws around my neck and kill me I woke up. It's weird cause I wasn't even tired."

"Hmmm. Ok, have you been relaxing, not working as hard maybe?"

"Uh.. no."

Skyler sighed, "I think the wolf represents your anxiety, stress, and every aspect that is keeping you from being your true self slowly building up, aka the eyes then the teeth appearing, trying to form something. So they are combining and finally forming into something bigger, the wolf. In order to defeat it you need to relax, stop working so hard to be better because, to me, you're perfect. Well, your true self is, this, this is a different Zach then I used to know. You've been different since, well, you know. It made you think you need to live up to something, that if you just worked a little harder it would please them. But you don't need to because you are perfect you just don't see it yet. You've changed but not for the better in some ways."

"Wow, that went from logical to really deep," Zach said, so shocked he was lost for words.

"Yeah, I read a lot about physiology and dreams."

"That makes sense." He laughed and picked up his pencil, writing notes as the teacher talked.

...

Zach thought about what Skyler said as he laid in bed that night. He believed everything he said, but there was a part of him that didn't. A part that believed that there really was something weird about the forest, that maybe people were right about there being weird things going on.

And there was only one way to find out.
