When they arrived at the arena Martin was scared for all different kinds of reasons.
He had no money, he had no home to go back to.. what if he had to buy something here? How could he pay for petrol? The only money he had was the cash in his wallet, which was.. maybe sixty or seventy euro? At least, it wasn't enough to pay for anymore accommodation, they'd have to stay in the van.
"Martin?" Called Zoe, making him open his eyes.
"Shit, did I fall asleep?" He asked, looking around with shock, he was still in the front seat of the van.
"You really don't look very well." Said Zoe, looking up at him from the ground as she held his passenger door open.
"I'm fine, honestly I'm fine." He told her, blinking his eyes wide before stepping out of the van.
They walked down the path, Martin looked to the side as Zoe walked up beside him. Her curly blonde hair bounced along her shoulders as her eyes met his and she gave a slight smile, making it impossible for Martin not to.
"What do you reckon she's gonna be like?" She asked him,
"God.. I dunno." He replied, looking ahead,
"Have you met any pop stars before?" Asked Zoë.
"I met Ringo Starr a couple years ago." He said,
"Ringo Starr?! How'd that come across?" She asked, surprised.
"Sitting beside him on a plane." Said Martin.
"A plane? Economy Class? Ringo wouldn't have that."
"Business class Emirates." He told her,
"Business class? God. Where to?"
"Dubai."
"What were you doing on a business class flight to Dubai? And what were you doing in Dubai?" Laughed Zoe.
"Ringo was very nice." He told her, ignoring the questions.
Zoe sighed, knowing that he didn't trust her as much as he once did.
"Are we over?" She asked him.
"We discussed this already on Wednesday." He told her.
"A lot has happened since then." She said.
"And has any of it been in favour of our relationship?" He asked her as she dipped her head.
"Okay then." Said Zoe, walking on ahead.
Ollie and Jemma immediately ran up either side of Martin.
"What did you do?" Asked Ollie,
"Not now, Ollie." Sighed Martin.
"Did you dump her?" Added Jemma.
"No?" He replied, "guys."
"Why is it all so complicated with you two? You're perfect for each other, why can't you just be with her?"
"Because we're not 'perfect for each other'" he replied, "and what if I don't want to be with her?"
"Sir;" said Ollie, "you've changed."
"Yeah. From a mourning and shocked person to someone who actually knows what's going on." Martin replied.
"What did you see in her last week that you don't see today?" Asked Jemma.
"I thought that she was pretty, clever, caring and.. loyal."
Martin looked ahead at Zoe who continued walking in her white shirt with her grey trousers. She was wearing red lipstick again, but that didn't turn him on anymore; he felt nothing towards her. She really was nothing more than a colleague. He didn't see her as overly attractive, nor did he think she was that clever. But he knew for certain that she was disloyal. And therefore he just couldn't trust her.
"You've gotta remember that she was the one that was there for you." Said Jemma before looking back at Ollie who had gone pale and was looking at Cloda while he let Martin walk ahead.
"Zoe.." Martin began, walking up to her. She looked over at him, saying nothing.
He then discovered that he had nothing really to say to her.
"Do you want a loan?" She offered with little enthusiasm.
"W-what?" He asked,
"I said, do you want a loan?" She repeated,
"No. No Zoe, it's fine."
"It's not fine you've got nothing left!" She responded, harshly.
He looked away from her and sighed as she began to calm down.
"Look I'm sorry I've been a complete bitch these last few days.." she told him, biting her lip, "I'm just... so fucking pissed off with myself I can't even think straight."
Martin cautiously placed a hand on her back, "I'm sorry.." he murmured.
"No.. no I am.." she said, sniffing and flicking her hair behind her ears, "this is going to be one of the best days of their lives and we can't screw this up for them."
Martin nodded, looking into her eyes, "can we talk later?" He asked her.
She sighed, "Yeah.. sure.. where are we even staying tonight?"
"Natasha said she's got a place for us." He replied.
"Wow you two have certainly been hitting it off with each other." Said Zoe, feeling terrible.
"Please don't make it like this." Begged Martin, seeing Zoe bite her lip and look down to the pavement before her eyes began to water.
"Fuck." She muttered, trying to dry her eyes gently before the tears fell.
Martin didn't know what to do. He didn't know how she felt about him. His feelings towards her were so mixed that he simply didn't know what to think of her. He liked her, he had always liked her, but had nearly hated her too.
He gently moved his hand from her back to her shoulder and pulled her in, embracing her. He stopped walking and leaned against the stone wall,
"Zoe..." he breathed, allowing her to bury her head into his neck,
"I'm fine.. I'm fine." She told him, taking a deep breath and splitting apart.
"You sure?" He asked her,
"Please lets just talk later." She sighed.
They walked into a more modern looking building and were immediately greeted at the door by an outstandingly beautiful woman; her hair was long and dark and her skin was bronzed and glowing. The band stood still, and Natasha greeted them all with a warm embrace.. this was real. It was actually happening.
Martin and Zoe watched the five young artists pick up their instruments with one of the most famous singers gazing at them playing with awe.
Martin made eye contact with Zoe as they played. Her dark eyes gleamed over at him as her crimson lips formed a smile as if to say to him 'well done'.
