Martin saw the police rage through the door. He couldn't move, his eyes were blurred with the tears and he didn't think to blink. Everything was so surreal, she was dead. She was dead and he wasn't. And while Emily screamed, Martin couldn't make a sound..
Martin jumped awake, immediately stunned by the beautiful view of the city. He rubbed his eyes, picking up his phone and checking the time, which was 8.30, before climbing out of bed and walking into the kitchen before he noticed Ollie fast asleep on the sofa.
"Jesus Christ!" He shrieked, jumping out of his skin and taking a leap back.
Ollie's eyes opened, he looked over at Martin,
"Ollie what the hell are you doing here?!"
Ollie looked up at Martin with as much energy as he could muster, "he snores, sir. He snores so badly.." he muttered,
"Ryan?" Asked Martin,
"Yeah.." assured Ollie,
"Well thanks for warning me!" Laughed Martin, "when did you come in, how did you come in?"
"About 4am.. your door was on the latch." Said Ollie, "I was worried in case you weren't alone."
"Ollie if I wasn't alone the doors would be well locked." Laughed Martin, taking out some cereal from the cupboard that he had taken from the van.
"Oh please." Sighed Ollie, lying back on the sofa.
"Jeez take the bed you don't even have a blanket." Insisted Martin, taking a cornflake.
"No I'm alright. I'm up." Said Ollie, sitting up.
"God, Ryan must have been really bad if you had to move in here." Laughed Martin,
"God. He was. Believe me, I tried sleeping at the other side of the room but he was still so loud. Mind you, you were sleep talking." Ollie told him,
"Crap was I?" Asked Martin before muttering a laugh. "Thought I was alone so I had a very vocal dream."
"You seemed pretty stern, it was a bit scary." Chuckled Ollie,
"Really? What did I say?" Asked Martin, not really remembering his dreams.
"Something about someone called Alex."
Martin paused, a flourish of hatred filled him.
"Oh god you went white, who's Alex?" Asked Ollie.
"The guy who killed my daughter." Replied Martin before realising what he had said.
"-I mean-"
"Oh my god..."
Martin tensed, taking a deep breath as he leaned against the wall.
"Ollie please get out.." breathed Martin.
Ollie stood transfixed, shaking his head. "She was killed.."
Martin put his back to Ollie, not wanting to see him.
"I'm so sorry, sir.." said Ollie, sincerely.
Martin felt his eyes tense up, "Its okay it's over." He muttered,
"But it's not. How could it ever be okay? You lost your daughter.. y-your c-child.." Ollie's mouth dropped in shock, meanwhile Martin had to cover his mouth from shrieking, he couldn't let his tears escape.
Ollie stood about two meters behind Martin, seeing his face hit the wall in his attempt to keep himself together.
"Sir.." began Ollie, "she.. I-"
Ollie's eyes began to water as he took a step towards him.
"If.. if it's any consolation while you were off for those three months I was off too.. my sister died.. hit by a car. Never should have happened.." Admitted Ollie, putting one hand on Martin's shaking shoulders.
"It's not easy for us either.." Added Ollie, "my sister.. Ellie.. she was five."
Martin should have turned around, he should have said something, but he had the feeling that he was about to burst.
"I.. didn't know.." Whispered Martin,
"I blame myself... I let go of her hand and she just ran... and the driver didn't even stop.. he just looked at me.. Never got him in the end.. I didn't even look at the number plate." gulped Ollie, walking away from his teacher who had now turned back in shock. "Ollie.." he began,
"I killed my little sister i killed her sir and I can't ever forgive myself for that.." cried Ollie, his jaw shivering.
"You didn't, Ollie." Replied Martin, a tear streaming from his eye, "Jesus Ollie you didn't." He sighed, covering his mouth before walking into the bathroom and locking the door.
Jemma woke up to the sound of the alarm going off. She squinted her eyes open and rolled over to turn the once-nice tune off. But when she looked over to the other bed where Cloda was supposed to be, she noticed it was empty.
"Cloda?" Called Jemma, rolling onto her back and looking up to the ceiling, there was no response.
"Clodes?" She called again. "Lucy where's Cloda?" She asked, turning to Lucy who was just opening her eyes.
"Cloda? I dunno? Shower?" Suggested Lucy, her eyes adjusting.
Jemma stood up, knocking on the bathroom door, "Cloda?" She called, gradually opening the door, but the bathroom was empty.
"W-where is she?" Asked Jemma, looking to Lucy who was now walking around the hotel room looking for her friend.
Suddenly the main door opened and Cloda walked through, closing it behind her and flopping onto the sofa.
"Where were you?!" Asked Lucy, sitting down beside her.
"Just... talking to Miss Flynn." She lied,
"Cloda, you're fully dressed where were you?!" Repeated Jemma, sitting on the other side.
"Your lips are all smudged.. you were out with Louis weren't you?" Said Lucy,
"God sake.." Sighed Cloda,
"For how long?! Jesus Christ anything could have happened to you and Mr McCafferson would have gotten the blame!"
"I was fine! Okay? He showed me Paris at night, all the landmarks, we got a taxi to the Eiffel Tower and we saw the Louvre.." she began as her eyes closed, "it was amazing."
Lucy and Jemma rolled their eyes as they lifted a blanket and draped it over Cloda who hadn't slept.
About an hour later the door knocked and Martin looked in, his eyes were dark, "you guys nearly ready?" He asked,
"Yeah, two minutes." Said Lucy, before Martin noticed Cloda fast asleep on the sofa.
"What's up with her?" He asked, Jemma and Lucy looked at each other, "oh god she didn't. She didn't." He muttered, annoyance rolling through him,
"Sir we didn't know-" said Jemma, "she's young, she's in love.."
"Well so are you! And you don't go out on your own in Paris with some stranger.." Martin shook his head and closed the door.
Jemma and Lucy stared at each other, "what's up with him?" Asked Jemma, nudging Cloda,
"His eyes were all red, he's upset." Moaned Lucy,
"God he's hungover and he's thinking about Martha." Sighed Jemma.
Ollie walked back into the room where Ryan was sitting on the chair on his phone. He looked up as Ollie sat on the sofa and covered his face with his hands.
"Ollie? Mate what's up?" Asked Ryan.
Ollie rubbed his red eyes and exhaled slowly.
"Jesus Ollie.." said Ryan, unsure how to help his friend.
"Sorry.. I'm a fucking mess.." Muttered Ollie, walking into the bathroom and locking the door.
The rain splashed along the windows, nothing was going to plan.
