Martin and Zoe walked and talked with other colleagues, giving a very general remark on the trip and speaking none of their relationship. They eventually became separated while Martin got into a conversation with Lottie.
"So, shall I show you to your new office?" She Offered.
Martin exhaled, "pfft, okay!" He responded,
"Now I've tidied it up a bit.. but Y'know, I.."
"I know." Martin said, thinking of Bronagh as he entered the office he had seen her in on a daily basis. There was a large meeting table with ten chairs around it and huge blinded windows overlooking the sea in the distance. In the corner was a desk with a letter addressed Mr C. M. McCafferson.
"Oh god, have you read it?" Asked Martin, placing his coat on the back on the chair and lifting up the letter.
"No, that's for you and you alone." Lottie replied, remaining at the threshold.
"Okay." Said Martin, sincerely, sitting down on the chair and logging into the computer, "thanks, Lotsy."
"No problem, boss." She responded, beginning to close the door as Martin gave a laugh in response.
As his computer loaded, Martin looked at one of the walls which was completely covered in monitors of the cctv cameras located around the school. He sat and watched them for a moment, seeing the crowds of students enter back into their classrooms, he noticed the band sitting down just outside a classroom talking to each other while on the floor, then he finally noticed Zoë walk back towards the music classroom. She took a few steps towards the door before hesitating and looking down at her slightly enlarged abdomen before opening the door and walking inside.
Martin then turned back around and looked at the sealed envelope addressed to him. He opened it to find a handwritten letter which he took in both hands and read thoroughly and slowly, knowing that this was her last relic.
Dear Martin,
I apologise for any inconvenience I am putting on you at this time, and indeed the future; I really threw you into this job, which I sincerely hope you take!
I write this the day before I go to France to meet you- a surprise, and I grant it won't be a terribly wanted surprise. I just want to see you, I guess, I want to see if you're real or just a figure of my imagination.
What I'm trying to say is that I need to know how you keep going. My husband died two days ago as I write, and I have loved that man since I was a young teenager. I can't fathom a life worth living without him in this world. But you just keep on going, you scratch a fake smile every day and sometimes I'm almost certain it's genuine.
Martin, I don't know what those three months were like for you while you were off, I'm sure you have felt this suicidal before. I've noticed the scars you have just behind your ear and on your wrists, but one can assume they have come from a past of hatred and torment. Martin you are amazing. You are truly incredible. Nobody in this world deserves your position more than you. I hope that you find happiness in your future and that you can learn to love again.
I have my fate sorted out with a man called Alex Vance, he says he knew my husband. I'm pretty sure this is a lie, and considering he's got the same name as the man who has been sending pictures of you and Zoe from the trip, I think he wants to hurt me. And the worst part is that I don't think I mind.
I'm sorry for exhibiting all my messed up emotions into this page, I'm sure you haven't a clue what gibberish I'm speaking, honestly, I don't understand myself either.
I leave tomorrow. I'm not sure when you will read this, but I hope you're happy, and I hope that you find love in Zoë (no, you haven't fooled me with your petty excuses!)
Thank you for always putting your heart and soul into your work. I could never forget you, Martin. I just hope that instead of sinking into this ocean of depression like me, you might just sail and one day reach the land, steady ground, back where you belong.
You deserve to be happy. You deserve the world.
Yours sincerely,
Bronagh. X

Martin looked up from the letter and folded it back into its envelope, placing it into a bottom drawer before he bit his lips together. His eyes were tense and he could feel the oncoming tears while his elbows rested on the desk and his hands moved up to his mouth.
Just when the first tear fell, the door knocked. Martin sniffed and turned away,
"Give me two minutes." He called, not looking to see who it was.
When there was no response he looked to the door to see Ollie, Cloda, Jemma and Lucy standing at the entrance to the room.
"Oh," he whispered, feeling more tears well up in his eyes, "so now that we've been on a trip together you think that you've got special privileges, huh?"
Martin shook his head and covered his mouth again before he gave up and cried.
"Hey, what's going on?" Asked Cloda, walking up to him and patting his back as he buried his head in his arms which were crossed on the table.
Martin tried to breathe again, he wiped his tears before shaking his head again, "sorry.. god..." he sighed, "nothings going on, everything's fine..  Bronagh just had to leave a note didn't she..?"
"W-what did she say?" Asked Jemma, taking a step foreword in concern and sympathy.
"She..."
Martin was cut off by the door knocking and Zoe walking in. Her face was pale and her eyes were bright and bursting,
"H-hi.. d-did- did you get a.." Zoe pushed her wrist against her mouth.
"We'll come back at the end of the day." Said Ollie, opening the door and leaving followed by the girls.
"Thanks.." said Martin, walking over to Zoë and taking her hands before wrapping his arms around her waist and letting her rest her head on his shoulder.
"Suicide..?" Asked Zoë, referring to Bronagh's letter for she had been written to also.
"Something like that." Said Martin , holding her close.
Zoe shook her head in heart break and disbelief as he continued to hug her.
"Cheer me up, Martin. I've got a first year class in ten minutes." She said, splitting apart the hug and leaning against the wall.
"Let's collaborate." He suggested, taking her hands and closing his eyes as he locked his lips with hers.
"Collaborate?" She questioned, stroking Martin's cheek with her hand,
"Uh huh, come on," he kissed her quickly again on her opened mouth, "let's do some singing with the kids."
Zoe smiled at him as he opened up the door into the corridor and she followed him out, totally in love with him.
