After a long breakfast, Ollie, who had dressed himself smartly in a shirt and jeans asked, "so, what's the plan for today?"
Martin and Zoe looked at each other, "well... we've gotta be home before three o'clock.. so we'll probably have to get going soon."
"Sounds like a plan. So.. when we're back at school.. you two aren't together?" Ollie Asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Not at all." Laughed Martin, his arm resting on Zoe's shoulder as he finished his sandwich.
"He's not really my type." Zoë Added, smirking at Martin.
"How long are they gonna keep this up for?" Chuckled Ryan, "Especially Zoe and her big flashy engagement ring."
"Tell you what;" Martin began, "we're both married, just not to each other."
"Good luck hiding that!" Laughed Cloda, folding her arms and leaning back in her seat beside Jemma before someone's phone started to ring.
Everyone looked around at each other,
"Not mine." Said Ryan. Martin picked up his phone but shook his head.
"Oh.." Ollie breathed, standing up and lifting his phone, "two seconds." He said, walking out the door and onto the beach again, pressing his phone to his ear.
"H-hello..?" He answered, standing on the beach with a confused gaze.
"Ollie? Ollie is that you? Are you okay? Oh Ollie..." cried a voice,
"Mum?" He questioned, turning up the volume on his phone.
"I'm so sorry, Oliver.. come home, come home." His mother cried.
Ollie placed his hand against his mouth.
"W-what are you saying, mum? You hate me, you've told me this over and over again. You wanted me gone." He reminded her, sitting down on the sand.
"The police came to the house a few hours ago, t-they j-just left.." his mother broke into tears and couldn't speak.
"Slow down, slow down..." Ollie looked down, feeling so lost as he hadn't spoken to his mother in over two months, "Are you alright? What happened?"
"The man who killed Ellie.. the driver.. they said he's dead.. and they had cctv footage. Y-you tried to stop her.. I'm so sorry.."
Ollie bit his lip and felt his eyes watering, "what do you want to tell me that I don't already know?"
He felt that he needed to be stern in order not to be degraded by his parents again.
"I'm not expecting you to want to move in with me again. But I'm buying you a house instead." Said his mother.
"I don't need your money or your home." He denied.
"I know you don't. But you need a home. I just want to protect you.. because you were only trying to protect Ellie."
"You kicked me out, Mum. You paid me five hundred pounds and said you never wanted to see my face again. I'm moving away. Far away." Said Ollie,
"Oliver, please.." his mother begged.
"Let me go." He told her, "you know that in your heart you hate me."
"No." She replied, "In my heart I know that I am your mother, and the day I gave birth to you was the best day of my life. Whatever you do I'll still love you whatever happens. If it had been you who died that day instead of Ellie I would have reacted the same way. Come home, even just for a day. I just want to see you."
Ollie wiped a single tear from his left eye before he looked down to his feet which had dug into the sand.
"Okay." He agreed, "I'll see you this evening.."
Martin, who sat prepared on the driver's seat, waiting for Ollie's return, looked behind him to Ryan and Lucy. The couple had been inseparable since Ryan's severe episode yesterday. They didn't speak much, for they felt that they didn't have much to say to each other. Ryan wanted to ask about her future but knew she was hurt by the thought of a future without Ryan in it.
Cloda spent her time reading or gazing out the window, often texting Charlie, the boy she'd gradually grown closer to over the last few weeks.
Zoe sat on Martin's knees leaning her head on his chest and gazing up at him as he held her hands.
"I've got a surprise for you." He told her,
"Oh really? Go on, surprise me." She flirted,
"I'll show you when we get home." He told her,
"It's not a puppy, is it?" She laughed, feeling his hair through her fingers.
"Nope, but we can look into getting one later!" He replied,
"Okay.. Okay... give me a clue here.. was it expensive?" She asked him,
"Spoilers." He murmured, grinning at her.
"Please don't say you've spent too much, Marty." She told him,
"I won't say anything." He responded,
"God.. Martin.. you've not bought a house have you?" She breathed,
He just smiled at her, his mouth opening as he began to chuckle.
"Martin!" She shouted, "what the heck?! Y-you- M-Martin.. w-where is it?!"
"Spoilers." He whispered again,
"Marty!" She moaned, kneeling on the outsides of Martin's legs with her hands on his collar.
"What's he done?" Called Ryan from the back seat.
"He's bought a bloody house!" Exclaimed Zoe,
"You rich bastard." Interrupted Ollie, walking into the van with large strides and flopping onto his back on one of the empty rows of seats, looking up to the ceiling.
"You alright, Oliver?" Asked Cloda, sitting opposite him.
Ollie nodded and turned onto his side again, his eyes wide and his mind in a daze.
"Who called you?" Asked Zoë, sitting back in her own seat and looking curiously around at Ollie.
"My mum... she wants to meet me tonight.. apparently she forgives me." He sighed, biting his lips together.
"Oh my god.. are you alright?" Asked Jemma, striding over to his side and seeing his slightly bloodshot eyes.
"I dunno." He replied, blankly smiling at her as she hugged him.
Martin looked sympathetically over his shoulder to Ollie,
"Was she genuine?" He asked.
Ollie nodded, "she sounded it."
Martin nodded before facing the front, "then we better start heading home." He remarked, watching Cloda slide the door closed before turning on the engine,
"Home." Echoed Zoe softly, watching as he steered back onto the main road.
