Everyone retreated down to the car park. Zoe took her place in the passenger seat and took out the map of Italy from the glove compartment, looking to see the best route back towards France.
Martin climbed into the front seat, "we're probably best just going back the way we came." He said, looking at the map beside her.
"How far do you reckon we'll get today?" She asked him, looking at possible places to stay near the border with France.
"I think today we'll get across Italy, and tomorrow we'll get across France, on Friday we'll make our way back in England." Planned Martin,
"Right then, do you wanna stay in Grenoble tonight?" Suggested Zoe, pointing to the city on the map.
"I can do that." Accepted Martin, picking up the GPS and inputting the destination before turning on the engine.
"Wait- stop." Zoë Exclaimed, putting her hands up.
"What?" Asked Martin, looking at her.
"What are we doing?!" She asked him, suddenly having a realisation. "We're all in Venice for the first time and potentially the last time and we literally haven't seen it at all. We've got all day, why are we wasting this opportunity?!"
Martin turned off the engine and looked in the rear view mirror and the teenagers that were trying to disguise their smiles. He then looked over to Zoe and exhaled, "why not?"
He took the keys out of the ignition and opened his door again.
"Two hours, alright, I don't wanna be stuck in rush hour traffic." He told everyone.
Zoe bit her lower lip and smiled at him, grabbing a mouse-brown coloured sun hat while he ran over to the other side of the van just to open her door and help her down onto the footpath.
"Thanks, Marty." She murmured, feeling the heat of the day on her shoulders.
Martin resumed to walking on the footpath beside Zoe, "Are you alright?" He asked her, placing one hand on her waist.
Zoe smiled, "I'm fine." She said, linking her arm with his and holding his hand as they walked side by side towards a bridge.
"Listen.. I'm really sorry for shouting earlier.." said Martin, stopping by the bridge and looking out at the river, keeping his hand in Zoe's.
"It's alright." She told him, resting her elbows on the bridge and gazing over, "Y'know the way I said I needed to talk to you about.." she looked to her slightly enlarged abdomen, "this?"
"You said it would change my life- maybe I don't need that pressure right now." Said Martin.
"It will change your life... they will change your life." She said, breaking into a smile.
Martin took a step back and his eyes widened, "Wait.. what?! You- you mean there's more than one?" Gasped Martin.
"There's three!" She giggled,
"W-What?! Triplets?! All at once! Oh my god, why didn't you say so before!" He laughed as he lifted her up by the hips and placed her on the wall of the bridge,
"Don't push me off now!" She chuckled, wrapping her arms around her neck.
"Just let me look at you." He breathed, standing in front of her before taking off her sun hat with one hand and covering their faces from one side with it as he closed his eyes and kissed her softly and delicately before pulling away.
"Is this some kind of 1940s western movie?" Laughed Ryan as the band walked by, leaning over the bridge.
Martin couldn't stop smiling at her, and she was so pleasantly surprised by his reaction.
"Three?! Three of them?! Seven months time, running around the house like lunatics!"
The band stopped in their steps in unison after overhearing what Martin had just said.
"Wait a second.." Cloda began, facing them,
"I'm standing in front of four people.." laughed Martin, facing Zoe, unable to take his eyes off her.
"W-What?! There's three of the them in there?" Jemma exclaimed, putting her hands on her cheeks and looking to Zoë.
"Oi! You weren't supposed to tell everyone!" Complained Zoe, jokingly slapping his bum.
"Whoops!" Scoffed Martin, placing his hands on her hips as she stood up and moved close to him.
She smiled at him as he hovered his mouth beside her ear, "Marry me." He breathed,
"I've already given you my answer, Martin." She replied,
"No, marry me right here, right now by this bridge." He ordered, taking her hands before seeing her eye light up.
"Right now?" She asked, "b-but who's gonna marry us? I haven't got a dress- we haven't got rings or anything.."
"Do we need all that? The kids'll buy us a couple rings won't they?" Martin turned around to see the band members with their eyes almost falling out of their heads as they nodded.
"Are you sure about this?" Zoë asked him, not completely convinced.
"I'm sure if you're sure." He said,
"Oh stop it with the cheesiness!" Zoë Complained.
"Zoe... lets get married.." Martin shook his head, smiling as he released his hands from hers and kneeled down on one knee, "please."
"Oh my god, Martin! You've already proposed!" Laughed Zoe, giving him her hands as he stood up again. "Yes- Yes. Yes! Go on then and marry me!"
Martin quickly kissed her lips as she giggled.
"You need to buy yourself a tie and some black trousers." She told him, holding onto his collar.
"I'll do that and buy the rings if you get yourself a dress." He replied, still holding onto her waist.
"Who's gonna marry us?" Asked Zoë, stroking his neck as she looked up at him.
"We don't have to be legally married; fill in the paperwork when we get home, just have a ceremony here." Said Martin, sliding his hands around her back.
"Again; who's gonna marry us?" Repeated Zoe, constantly with a face full of glee.
"I'll do it!" Exclaimed Ryan, much to the humour of the rest of the band, "seriously I'll do it; I got ordained as a joke a couple years ago, it still stands, I could legally marry you two."
Zoe and Martin looked at each other, curling their lips before bursting into laughter,
"Would getting a student to marry us be crossing the line?" Zoë giggled,
"I didn't read it on the rules." Added Martin.
"I think our boss might need to change those rules again." Said Zoe, her hands on Martin's chest.
"Remind me to talk to you about that." Martin added, running his hands up to her cheeks before he was suddenly pulled backwards by Ryan and Lucy,
"You're not allowed to see the bride before the wedding; never mind kiss her, now give us an hour and we'll be back at this bridge by 10am, alright?" Organised Jemma.
Martin and Zoe took one final giddy look at each other before turning away,
"Okay, girls with me!" Called Zoe, "Martin, remember to get rings."
"I will!" Martin replied, holding up his wallet before returning it to his trouser pocket while he walked in the opposite direction, laughing to himself as Ollie and Ryan followed behind.
