Chapter 25
"Are you really planning on wearing that?" Harper chimed from the bed where she laid on her stomach with her feet propped up behind her using her palms to uphold her chin.
I frowned looking towards the Christmas sweater I was holding up, it read 'Oh Deer, Christmas is here!' with a picture of a reindeer wearing a Santa hat printed onto the front. "It's cute." I protested.
"For a first grader!" She rolled her way off the bed and tugged the hanger from my hands, making her way to my closet to place it on the rod before plucking a red dress from its place. "How about this?" Holding it up she did a little shimmy with her shoulders as well as her eyebrows.
My mouth scrunched to the side, it was a modest length that had a tight top which then flowed out to my knees, a bow that sat right above my butt for embellishment. "It's cute."
"Cute? It's hot, sexy, plus you don't have to get him a present because you are his present." She twirled the dress around and prodded at the bow shooting a wink in my direction. I rolled my eyes at the sight of her but nonetheless entertained her with a laugh.
"I suppose," I sat myself on the edge of my bed, moving things around in my suitcase, making sure everything was there.
"Now that that's settled, what's your underwear selection looking like?" She nonchalantly mentions while taking the dress off the hanger and proceeding to fold it neatly.
"Harper!"
"What? Don't you want him to be impressed the first time you two," again, she wiggled her eyebrows while thrusting her hips into the air.
I snatched the dress out of her right hand and placed it in on top of my pajamas, feeling a blush creep it's way onto my cheeks, "it's not our first time."
Hearing this causes Harper to gasp and then cannon bolt herself onto bed, "Tell. Me. Everything!" Her tone is exaggerated and I let out a nervous laugh before catching her up.

Dustin showed up bright and early to collect me from my apartment. I had fallen asleep in the passenger seat, after he forced Mabel to the back seat, who now sat with a pout on her lips keeping her gaze focused on the scenery that passed us in a blur of green.
"Mornin' sunshine," he chirped from the driver's seat, momentarily peeling his eyes off the road to flash me a grin.
"Morning." Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I was able to see a sign that read 'Welcome to Philadelphia' which I knew was a close to three hour drive from Connecticut. "Geez Louise, how long was I out for?
"Oh I'd say about three hours, we're about to stop for lunch as soon as I can find a place." Dustin wore his sleeves rolled up just underneath his elbow and kept one hand on the wheel, I bit my lip as an automatic response to the sight of him. "We'll crash in Indiana for the night, before heading to Tennessee first thing tomorrow morning." He reached over and patted my thigh with his free hand and I felt a pull in the bottom of my stomach from this simple gesture.
He pulled into retro-themed diner whose sign read 'Rose's Home-Style Cooking' in a vibrant, almost blinding red color.
"Sounds promising." He commented before we made our way to the entrance, it was loud and busy in a welcoming way, we were ushered to a four person table where Dustin and I sat next to each other while Mabel opted for the chair closer to Dustin. "I gotta use the bathroom, can you order a coffee for me?" He asked to which I quickly nodded as he walked off to find the bathroom, I admired the way his jeans fit him in all the right places as he walked off before snapping out of my gaze.
"What are you ordering?" I lifted my eyes to see Mabel chewing on her bottom lip anxiously waiting her brother's return, "I think I'm gonna get breakfast, since I hadn't had anything to eat yet."
"I don't care." Her blonde hair had dark streaks of natural brown highlights that covered most of her head, she wore it tied on the top of her head in a messy style.
The waitress, a kind older woman, introduced herself and took our drink orders as she left my eyes continued to scan over the menu, in an attempt to clear the tension.
"Do you even care though?" Her voice had startled me and when I met her gaze, I was met with a bruning black fire. My mouth fell open in many attempts to answer, "do you care that I got my heart broken by a guy I didn't even date?" The smile on her face was a hypocritical smile, there to stop her from going hysterical.
"Mabel, of course I do."
"No, you don't, you see if you did you would have minded your business and let me get over my stupid crush by myself!" Her voice was rising with each word said, she was aware of this because red flooded her freckle covered cheeks at the attention we gained by neighboring tables.
"I'm sorry, Mabel." My voice was low, as if I was trying to settle down a child throwing a temper tantrum. She released a puff of hair before shaking her head and crossing her arms against her chest. Dustin was making his way over to the table at this point and I knew there would be no point in continuing this conversation.
"How's the menu looking?" He dropped into his seat and looked between the two of us, when neither of us said anything he fell awkward, "never mind, then."

After our meal we continued the drive for a good seven hours finally reaching our destination for the night and setting up in a motel we came across in the heart of Indiana. Dustin had asked for two rooms next to each other since each room only consisted of one bed.
"Goodnight Mabel!" He called as we found our rooms to which she replied by slamming the door shut, he raised his eyebrow to this and opens our own room.
"So, wanna tell me what happened at lunch today?" He threw the bag of fast food onto the coffee table and I plopped myself onto the couch, a sigh leaving my lips as if I wear a squeak toy.
"Well, I ordered an omelette with spinach and tomatoes which was surprisingly good and you got pork chops which, in my opinion, is gross with coffee." I opted to play the innocent role which was stupid on my part, since Dustin was able to see right through it.
"Come on now, girly, I mean between you and Mabel." His clarification wasn't necessary.
"Nothing, I just don't think the two of us get along too well."
"Hopefully this trip'll change that."
"Hopefully." I repeated before reaching for my burger and fries in the greasy bag, to which Dustin mocked.
"But you know something? We get along pretty damn well." He smiled, a smile that showed off his pearly whites and I couldn't help but give him one of my own.
"We do." I nodded in agreement, polishing off my burger in record time, munching on the rest of the fries' chasing down the saltiness with a swig of water.
"Woah there, don't choke on me now," he teased, "besides you better save some room for dessert." He pushed his arm into mine as I got up onto my knees on the couch, towering over his relaxed form.
"Trust me, there's plenty of room." I swung my left leg over both of his just as he swallowed the last bit of his meal.
He gave a growl of approval and I felt my toes curl in response before I knew it he was wrapping his right arm around my waist and hauling the both of us over to the bed where we tangled ourselves in the bedsheets for the night.
